I’m happy to keep and develop him. I don’t believe he played particularly well last year outside of a stretch at the end of the season. I’d just be surprised if he has any value at all. Hoping he develops into a star. I don’t think he’s a point guard. Would rather he came off the bench if we pay him. I’m all for keeping him I’m just not impressed with players just because they are thrust into a high usage roles. His efficiency is objectively bad, he lacks playmaking feel and he quit on the team giving him a second chance because of his inability to hold himself accountable. I’m not sure what value people are expecting for a guy we got with a protected second round pick. That’s all.
Funny.... there was another player on the Rockets that didn't play particularly well last year outside of a stretch at the end of the season, wonder if you feel the same about that player.
At this stage in the rockets rebuild I’d take the 22yr old head case talent every day. I’d even give him 15-20mil a year if he can average 20 & 6 efficiently this year and shows sign of maturity
That player is a SG. We need to choose one SG instead of trying to fit two clear SG’s into our backcourt
Ah, so it's okay for him because he's a SG instead of a combo guard capable of running the point. Makes sense.
Absolutely, what a crazy luxury that would be. Just like if you were able to have Ja Morant or Jalen Green as a 6th man. ....but you'd probably start them, because duh, just like KPJ.
I wouldnt put KPJ in that category nor would I say he's untouchable. But I think he's worth having around for now... That said, let's not pretend this guy is on a Morant level or overinflate his skills like this board did with Aaron Brooks. Odds are KPJ has a solid journeyman career
And Ryan Hollins said he has a top 5 skill set(and when Ryan talks about players(,Luka should had went #1, he didn't believe in Kyrie and KD in Brooklyn to win a championship, etc etc) he has been right on it, if KPJ puts it together it's a wrap for the NBA because Jalen and KPJ will be the best backcourt.
No one on the roster is "untouchable", all could be had for the right package....but those kinds of packages aren't coming. It's kind of funny how basically the only people who don't realize how talented KPJ is are certain Rockets fans. You can spell out his exploits as if they are hypotheticals and those same people will tell you he'll never be able to do them....not realizing he already did.
That player didn't refuse to go back in the game and he was hurt in the earlier part of the season. I do like KPJ and I'm rooting for him. He's showing improvement.
KPJ never refused to go into any game. He was told he was benched for the rest of a game and he went home. That's not the right thing to do, and he apologized to everyone, but that's not refusing to go into a game.....so learn the facts about the one incident you want to whine about. Also....of course that other player was "injured" till after the All Star break.....LOL. You just have to laugh at this ridiculous level of nonsense being pushed.
No one cares that he had some emotional outbursts, people here are over emphasizing that. people like that competitive fire. DD
I’d think it’s in the best interest of the team to develop a rookie that was chosen #2 overall rather than a guy who was added to the team for a protected 2nd who is in his 3rd year. I’m more inclined to buy into a stretch of good games from Green and less inclined to look past an otherwise bad season from KPJ considering his experience. Whether KPJ is a better passer is immaterial if neither display the feel and vision to be a point guard. As a scorer, people are expecting KPJ to go from scoring 16ppg with very bad efficiency to 20ppg on good efficiency. How is that supposed to happen especially when you consider KPJ actually scored with slightly better efficiency the year prior and actually regressed last year. Regardless, I’m rooting for him. I’m just not under the pretense he has any value and this team needs an actual playmaker. If we draft Banchero, I’ll gladly roll with a back court of KPJ/Green and I’d be excited about the prospect of that trio panning out. Otherwise the pairing is going to continue to be iso city and we know how that goes.
KPJ is easy. He doesn't have trade value and will be a restricted free agent, so no decision is needed. If we land Scoot or another legit PG prospect he can walk, or come back as a bench player. If we dont land another PG it makes sense to keep him.
