McMahon was the Dallas beat writer, but for ESPN, he's supposedly the beat writer for all of Southwest division, which means, his job actually requires him to watch some of Rockets games. In that regard, when listening to him, it sounds like he actually does. When he's on shows like Windworst, when it comes to Rocket news/rumors, they go to Tim as their resident expert.

When it came to the kpj/wood incident, his reporting aligned with those of Iko and Feigan. In fact tone was more neutral, whereas I think some of the Rockets beat writers, soften the language to help with damage control.

I don't agree with him on everything, when he start gloating about Luka, I usually go for the SKIP button.

But honestly though, putting all our homer glasses down, are we really a 30+ win team next year? (can still change your vote)

    Early pulse right now:

Nope. I'm not confident in the team defense going into next season. Still a 20-ish win team

Seeing Harden's trajectory post Rockets, you really would prefer we stuck with the old core rather than rebuild?

Really? Imagine if we stuck with the old core. We would have no rings still and have a bunch of over the hill aging vets. We would be the Lakers now with no promising young potential stars.

We sold high on Harden. It was perfect timing honestly.

Harden forcing the Rockets hand in trading him really was a blessing in disguise.

I think there is a alternate history where CP3 doesnt blow a hammy, we win that title and then remain competitive over a few years and maybe squeeze out another ring. Maybe Harden would have been inspired to keep giving a ****.

That being said, since we didn't follow that course of events, we definitely traded Harden at the right time and have had a very good rebuild so far.

I am pretty sure stone was trying to get future first round picks for 2023 last year for Gordon and wood but no one was willing.

Yeah that was the report and I'm sure he'd rather have those than #17 or #26 in this draft. He'll probably use one or both of those picks in a trade for higher picks or future picks in the next 6 days if I were a betting man.

I think stone wants as many 2023 picks as possible in hopes we can trade up to #1.

We will be getting significantly younger w Wood traded, EG and likely Tate are gone as well. I think with this team you really only have ~40 games to prove you are competitive, if they start slow you would like to tank, but i am not sure that will be possible this year. I am wondering how much more room Silas has. If we tank this year I assume he is done. We had the worst record , but we also beat the Odds each time getting the #2 and #3 pick. If Victor is a true generational talent then it may be worth it i suppose, as long as it is not an intentional tank from the beginning of the season. An early look at the 2023 Mock draft has the Rockets as #1 taking Victor.

If we end up with one of the three worst records, we have a very good shot at VW or Henderson.

We are likely to suck again. We have a real shot at VW.

Interesting. I don't think the team who lands #1 will be willing to trade it unless if it's an historical haul. What do you think Stone would be willing to trade for the #1? Let's assume Rockets get #3 again and Amen is the 3rd ranked prospect.

i would have preferred you not dismantle the team after the 17-18 historic season and actually make moves to improve. You know things that winning teams focus on, not outside of LTS and not having to scrape the bottom of the barrel for scrubs and expect them to be your others. I'm not going to just fast forward to last year and disregard all the dumb moves that forced the rockets to be what they are now

This isn't a last year thing. This has been a thing for 4 years and counting.

#1 is victor(center) and #2 is scoot(point guard), everything else is not set. But imo stone would most likely offer everything just for Victor but it will most likely not be enough .might need pick 2-4 in 2023.. we have our pick, and bucks unprotected and iirc the nets swap? I think stone wants at least 3 to 4 more fully unprotected picks In 2023 and hope the teams who gave up their picks land on 2-10.

Pretty sure they let Silas play out another year if we get Victor.

How much value do you think the following players have on the trade market?

    garry bird
    Kj Martin
    Tate
    Nix

do any of these players have enough value to move us up in this draft?

I wouldn’t be excited about trading Garrison and Tate considering they are two of the biggest dogs on the team.

I think Nix would net a late FRP or early SRP. Tate maybe a late FRP. Martin...early SRP. Bird...early SRP.

If Atlanta really liked one of these players, maybe No. 17 could be traded up for No. 16.

No. 26 probably could be traded up ~4-5 spots with one of these guys.

none of those are remotely close to moving the rockets up in the draft. You would have to attach an asset to them without a doubt.

3 undrafted players and near end of 2nd rounder provide little to no value alone

I wanna keep KMJ unless he wants out. He plays well with Sengun and I think he can be our 9th man when we blastoff (sorry) to .500 and beyond in 2023-2024.

This is a very real possibility. I initially thought we would have an incremental increase in Wins as Stone mentioned to expect, but that is assuming guys do something they have not yet done. That is pure speculation on Jalen Green getting us wins. If you look back at the last 2 seasons, I believe Wood is the leading scorer in about 50% of the wins. I only looked at last year it was 9/20 he was the leading scorer including a 39 point game that they won. The prior season i do remember them going on a 6-0 run after the harden trade and most of that was Wood as well. Someone posted KPJs insane numbers to end the season nearly 29/7/5 or something, and we lost every game. Not saying Wood will win you games for a competitive team, but if you are a 20 win team and you trade away the leading scorer in a majority of your wins over 2 seasons you would think there is a real possibility of a step backwards.

I gotta say, we've been pretty spoiled as a fan base despite only having two rings.

1980s we had Sampson and Hakeem, than we had the Dream prime years, the Big 3 followed by lucking into Steve Francis, than landing Yao, then McGrady.

Then a few years where we were competitive before getting Harden.

Im almost 30 and this is the first time I can remember that we're not competitive. Thats pretty impressive when you consider so mant franchises struggle for a long time.

Side note: Everywhere I move to, teams win championships. I work in energy policy. DM me to get me to move to Houston.
