Well... the 100 year thing is kind of indicative of a gimme... I think it's kind of a big deal to flip a seat for the first time in the 100+ years... even 50+ years considering the southern strategy.

Can someone explain how Texans think Biden is at fault for them being against an infrastructure bill?

Some leading Democrats in Washington seem to believe their problem is about campaign money spent and messaging. The people in these districts are dismayed and very angry that their lives are being damaged by the Democrats policies impacting inflation, the economy, the border, crime and the promotion of absurdly misguided cultural priorities. The Democrats are not listening.

Democrats from South Texas are furious and are trying to sound the alarm. But it may already be too late.

Latino Democrats vent their fury after foreboding special election loss in Texas
Republicans picked up a district in the Rio Grande Valley that just a few years ago was giving Democrats comfortable double-digit margins.

Less than 24 hours after the GOP flipped a congressional district in South Texas, several Latino Democrats cornered their campaign chief on the House floor with a fervent plea: It’s time for the party to make a crucial course correction. Republicans blew up more than a century of almost uninterrupted Democratic control in that region Tuesday night, earning a special election win in a heavily Latino border district they had rarely even contested since its creation in 2012 — but where the GOP has made rapid gains in the last few years.

That trend has been on Democrats’ minds since former President Donald Trump cut deep into the party’s margins in the Rio Grande Valley in 2020. But national Republicans poured money into the special election in this 85 percent Latino district from the beginning.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and its allies, meanwhile, only made a small investment at the end, despite requests from members to get involved earlier. “I hope the DCCC learns their lesson with this before it happens across the country,” said Democratic Rep. Vicente Gonzalez, who due to redistricting will face GOP Rep.-elect Mayra Flores this fall in a redrawn district. “They have just forgotten about the brown people on the border,” Gonzalez continued. “And that’s basically what it is. I’m not going to try to sugarcoat it anymore. They are taking Latinos in South Texas for granted.”

Republicans across the state were jubilant: “South Texas has been a Democrat stronghold for over a century. To see South Texas move Republican is a seismic shift,” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said in a brief interview after Flores, whom he endorsed, won.

Even so, many rank-and-file Democrats, particularly Latinos, were outraged that their party had missed an opportunity to gain ground with voters that were moving away. “The moment you start getting people to say, ‘Well, it’s ok to vote Republican,’ then the next time will be easier,” said Cuellar, who will be defending his own South Texas turf in November against what’s expected to be an onslaught of GOP spending. “The DCCC needs to sit down and look at South Texas seriously,” Cuellar said. “I don’t think it’s a political realignment, but this should send a message to the DCCC ... You can’t take Hispanics for granted, which they always do.”

It was a sentiment felt across the Texas Democratic delegation. “There is absolutely no logical reason why we should be losing any of these seats,” Escobar said, while lamenting the DCCC’s decision not to spend in the race.

Republicans pounced on what they saw as an obvious Democratic messaging flop. “Our guys were talking about inflation and the economy and crime and the border. What were they talking about? Jan. 6,” said Rep. Tom Emmer (R-Minn.), who runs the House GOP’s campaign arm. “The border’s a big deal, and they’re not doing anything about it,” the National Republican Congressional Committee chief said. “We are actually more in touch with the voters than our colleagues on the other side of the aisle.”

Republican polling of the district, conducted in mid-May by Meeting Street Insights, found that the most important issue for voters was border security and immigration (35 percent), followed by inflation (28 percent). Flores and GOP outside groups slammed Democrats as having a weak border security policy that has led to more crime in the region.

The base for the Republicans - most of who do not strongly identify themselves as actual Republicans anymore - are not following the establishment party line any longer and they clearly do not appear to value any of the traditional Republican political "dynasties" any longer either. None.

They are not following the "who are you going to believe" approach, but rather the "what are you going to believe" approach. This is obviously very hard for most of the Democrat left to comprehend, as they embrace the first approach - and try to destroy anyone of note who actively defies that agenda.

Liz Cheney given 10% chance of winning reelection: CNN

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) has a mere 10% chance of winning reelection, according to a report.

"On Cheney, if you go over to Wyoming, look at her disapproval rating," said Harry Enten, a senior data reporter at CNN. "Essentially, what you see is that it has doubled, more than doubled, gone up 40 points from before she voted to impeach Donald Trump to after voting to impeach Donald Trump."

Prior to her vote to impeach the 45th president, Cheney had a 26% disapproval rating, the report noted. That number now sits at 72%.

"If you look at the betting odds, whether or not she'll win reelection, only about a 10% chance she'll win," Enten told Anderson Cooper. "Given the political dynasty she's from … that's incredible," Cooper said.

The Wyoming GOP primary is slated for Aug. 16.

The same explanation you come up with for Cruz blaming Biden for Texas electric prices. Just horseshit.

Dem leadership didn't spend any money because...

    a. The election was for a House seat for 4 months.
    b. The district has been redistricted away so the Dem running wasn't going to be the nominee in November anyway.
    c. The nominee in November is a current House Rep and the district is becoming way more blue.

The GOP wanted the talking point, but it doesn't have any long-term impact unless you believe Latino voters across Texas will now be more likely to vote Republican in the future because of a random special election where a GOPer got elected.

Dems have a huge hispanic vote problem in Texas, but this election has little to do with it.

Congrats to Mayra Flores! A great success story of an incredible woman, the first Mexican born congresswoman! She came here with nothing but became something…A history in the making victory that every media outlet is talking about! this is what we want and need. A leader to help address the multiple crisis America is suffering from that is not being properly anticipated, addressed or effectively countered. America needs a different direction than we have, and the best part is the people have spoken ..

    Salute to this beautiful person!

Yes, and her solution to this great crisis is to blame Biden and dems for all the problems.

Yep. The only difference from her and guys like Cruz is the foreign countries they were born in. Both were lucky enough to have families who got lucky with immigration folks not denying them into our country. Both will blame Dems for everything wrong in this GOP controlled state.

The global economy is melting down due to horrific energy policy and very weak leadership abroad... both of which opened the door wide for Putin to move on Ukraine. And what are the Democrats in Congress focused on this week while inflation rages and the economy falters? Yup, you guessed it. Attacking TRUMP. We are on what, Year 6 of their efforts to attack Trump? Talk about tone deaf.

They're counting on that people won't remember that Biden did get a major infrastructure bill passed just a few months ago.

We've already seen Republicans that voted against the bill already campaign on projects that were in the bill.

They vote against everything Democrats propose. Hell, they voted against the Domestic Terrorism bill because they felt it targeted their supporters, and don't want the White Supremasists, Neo-Nazis, and hate groups having closer surveillance. Kinda fishy when are ok with terrorists that are white and far right. They know far right groups are the most dangerous threat in this country.

It doesn't shock me, the state is typically red who all want to ride Trump`s coattails so if you have someone in the party stand up and tell the truth then they will turn on her, I like her, I may not agree with her on certain things but she is sensible and doesn't let lies get in the way of the truth. I can disagree with rational people, what the GOP has turned into is not rational.

Liz Cheney has voted consistently on all of the things that Conservatives claim to uphold. Reduced spending, reduced taxes, border security, against abortion, against Gay marriage, etc... She's done so for far longer than Trump has even been a Republican. This is absolutely about "Who you going to believe" with the "Who" being Trump. It's more evidence that most of the GOP is a cult of personality.
