He almost has to try. The top half of this draft is SOLID, but that Dallas pick most likely isn’t going to yield much by itself.
For Daniels, you might have Portland's attention with Gordon #17, Josh Christopher (or another talent not named Jalen Green), and the Buck's Pick. Then do you have to add #26 also (which they might not want)? Moving up will be expensive.
Dallas bought into it for the #26 pick and 4 expendable players. Not much risk there for them since Wood is on an expiring deal. I don't disagree that Charlotte isn't looking for additional picks but I wasn't commenting on that. I was replying to the statement that Wood was our best "win now" player to offer. I don't believe that any teams view Wood as contributing much to winning. That's why the offers for his were low.
Maybe Ego and pick(s) moving to get back into the top 10 but I really don't see any of those teams 5-10 needing Ego except maybe San Antonio or maybe the Pelicans.
I think he could be given the short window of evidence we have with him and Harden the games James was locked in. He was a really good fit feeding off of Harden so it bodes well for how well Luka could potentially use him. The question for him is how willing he’ll be to roll to the rim instead of roll and shoot like he’s freaking Steph Curry (which led to me face palming at least 5 times a game last season) and of course defense. So to Dallas, Wood is a risky but still potentially a win now player because of Luka while with Charlotte EG is much more of a win now player for them. Wood in Charlotte wouldn’t work.
Honestly I can see something like: Gordon 17 26 for Fournier 11 Both Gordon and Fournier's contracts end at the same time but I'd think Thibs would want a more battle tested guard in the mold of Gordon vs Fournier. At 17 the Knicks should still be in the position to take a big (WIlliams?). At 26 they have a few PG prospects that can be had to be a future replacement for Rose/Walker. We move up to 11 to take BPA. If you told the Knicks and its fans that they could come away with: Eric Gordon, Mark Williams, and, say, Jaden Hardy in exchange for Fournier and the 11th pick I think they would do that trade.
Could we get Denver’s FRP for Tate & Matthews? We would then have 3, 17, 21, 26. Boban and EG as vets. Would look to dump Nwaba to Boston for Naesmith and cut all those guys from the Dallas deal
What's the end game for getting another 1st rounder? To package 17/21/26 together in hopes for a higher pick? I don't see the point in adding four 1st round picks to a roster that saw the same amount of rookies added last year.
We got our star, 2 studs in Christopher and Sengun along with Garuba. We can do the same this year with Paolo, Eason, Marjon or whoever they want. We have to rebuild and start competing quickly as OKC have great chances of getting our picks for the future
Are you referring to stats or winning? In the 8 games that Wood played with Harden we were 2-6. So, pretty much same thing as we saw after Harden left - good numbers but you lose.
Gordon + 17 + 26 gotta get you something half-way decent i reckon. hell add one of the rando Brooklyn picks and that is a sizeable trade package. we definitely have a lot of flexibility...maybe we can do the Lakers trade of swapping their future 1st and Westbrook with Wall and 26? Does Gordon + 26 get you pick 18-22? theres still some decent players available there... Jovic,Hardy,Williams...maybe even Eason? Going into next season with another 3 first rounders makes training camp competition hella tough. just a head count : KPJ,Green, KJM, Christopher, Sengun, Nix, Pick 3, Pick 17, Pick 26 ... that's 9 players under the age of 23 all battling for minutes with guys like Tate pushing their buttons. anyways it's going to be a fun week of f5.
Quality over quantity. Just because we were able to pick 4 solid prospects last year doesn't mean we should try (or hope to replicate) it again. I'm fine with keeping #3 and #17...I can probably be convinced to keep #26...but adding ANOTHER 1st rounder to use is overkill. When you fill an NBA roster with 8 1st/2nd year players and the rest with scrubs and the ghost of John Wall while keeping Silas as the HC you're not in a position to develop and rebuild anything--you're basically trying to form an AAU team.
Lol. Panic is a stretch. We got what he was worth. His time in Dallas won’t be long either, watch. The Stone Age is upon us.
Eric Gordon is 33 lol he is not getting us anything but a second round pick and bad contracts in return Oh and he makes $19M
I think two things came into play. 1.) Stone wanted this trade done before the draft. 2.) He wanted no contracts beyond the upcoming season. Working within those parameters, I think that he got the best deal he could. I am no fan of Christian Wood, but I do think there is a team(s) picking somewhere in the top 20 that believes he can help them. And I think they would have given their pick if we had taken some long term salary back to offset the likely extension of Wood. I get where you’re coming from with the “win now” designation. Whether Wood actually contributes to winning is certainly up for debate, but he can be classified as a “win now” move. I’m not enamored with the 2023 free agent class, so I would have taken salary back in the right deal. Stone appears to have other plans. We’ll have to wait and see what they are.
Agree. Hoping it's a timing thing for the next move. This might be a chess move, not a checkers move.
Gordon Hayward Kelly Oubre #13 John Wall #26 Who says no? Wall comes off the books next summer, Charlotte removes Hayward's contract, giving them some breathing room to extend Bridges, Washington, etc. We move up to 13 to take Sochan or Agbaji use 17 to take Eason or Williams.
