To be clear, I don’t mind that they traded him, he wasn’t a great fit for a tanking, rebuilding young team, I just think the return is garbage. None of those players they acquired fit the rebuild, and the odds of landing a player even close to as good as a Christian Wood at 26 is pretty unlikely. It’s clear the Rockets see this as addition by subtraction, but I’m not a fan of essentially giving away a talent like that. It’s hard to believe that this was the best return they could get. It’s telling of how much his stock has apparently fallen around the league. I expect him to be on his best behavior for Dallas in a contract year and to play much better for them. Feels like a great move for Dallas and a very “meh” trade for the Rockets.
Absolutely a steal by the Rockets. I'd be angry if the Rockets gave ANYTHING up to be stuck with Wood.
This is closer to right. I mean, y'all are talking about it as though it's just the player for the pick, which is too high a level of generality. It's 1-year of the player on the current contract, plus the option to (presumably) max him. The option's probably worthless. Apparently they couldn't even find a late first for Wood near the deadline this past season, so finding one now, plus getting a bunch of expirings, when you couldn't get that for another half-season of the same player six months ago, is not terrible value. Keeping him wasn't an option because it was clogging the Sengun/#3. So I guess you could say the return sucks, but that seems to suggest that there was some other asset they could have gotten for him, and I don't understand that argument.
Oh DD, come on now lol. He blew up in Houston already stat wise. The only way he actually blows up is if he actually sets picks for Luka, does not try to bring the ball up the court stopping the fast break, and actually plays average defense. Oh yeah, when he plays defense, doesn't let Finney Smith or Hardaway get the big man assignment while he hides on some perimeter player.
The best part of all this is that Wood's in a contract year. He'll provide about as much effort as he can, the Mavs will sign him to some crazy deal and he'll ruin most of Luka's prime years afterwards.
or they also realize he sucks and they don't retain him. I mean it won't take much when they already went through KP and Wood is a fake knockoff dollar store version of him.
