this question was posed because what few ‘rumors’ of e-ink spilled in this quiet period have been Nix = FRP (Stone) v Rox intrigued with Ivey #3. Presumably red herrings, both, yet is there any smoke here?
Mason Jones was the truth on here until he nosedived back to earth…I even got told he was better than LaMelo Matthews is another who got exalted, then his talent ran out of battery life when you’re starving, even the worst foods might taste good…that’s Nix to me…Rockets starving so much for talent, that anyone who’s a smidge over scrub status gets hyped to the heavens
If Nix is really in the Rockets plans, develop him as a backup PG. Don't hype or gas him up thinking he could be starting material here.. He can still be an integral part of this team for years to come...
Let the rockets brass tell it “we’re treating Nix like a lottery player, we love him, he was so young, he was the number rated PG in high school, blah blah blah. Dude didn’t impress on the ignite, shat the bed at the combine, and subsequently killed his draft stock. he showed glimpses during the Vipers playoff run but the jury is still out. He needs to get in shape and make his time count this year (they’ll give him a shot). we’re not taking Ivey at 3 so we can stop creating new threads about it. Only on this board would we compare a top 4 lottery pick to someone that sent undrafted.
I agree with this. lets be hopeful nix turns out better than ivey but we shouldn't count on it! nor should we factor in Daishen Nix when deciding who to draft at #3! the only guy I think of when picking #3 is Jalen. if they're the best player left and they fit with jalen draft them. if its ivey or paolo, great. if its jabari or chet, also great.
The choice is not Nix or Ivey. The choice is Nix + Banchero or Ivey. Banchero makes much more sense, it really isn't even that close.
Nix was highly ranked as PG coming out of highschool. He stayed away from shoe sponsored events or tournaments. So he played in lower level events. Said to be in the mold of Deron Williams. Since then he played, for G-league Ignite with Jalen Green and stunk it up in year one. Year two was with a better structured scheme with RGV Vipers and looked better. Solid passer but will never demand more than single coverage. Won't require the gravity of the defense. Little tubby around the waist line much like Kenneth Lofton, David Roddy, and Conner Williams. Nix is poised and calm with the ball. Nice feature. ----------- Ivey will be exceptional and a star as most players with that speed and extremely quick first step are. It's something that separates Westbrook, Harden and Ja Morant from others. Nice ability to change directions while handling the ball. Will tighten up his ball dribbling skills at the pro level and will take advantage of open lanes provided by good or better shooters from 3 around him (than at the college level). Attacks the rim with fearlessness and was rewarded by the refs in the form of FT's. Will be a 10 FT attempts per game player by year two and on. Ivey has a knack for attacking the rim and hanging in the air while contorting his body and putting up a shot. This will result in and-1's and tally up higher his point output during games. Here are his 3-point shooting splits: Nov 43.3%.....13/30 in 7 games Dec 46.9%.....15/32 in 6 games Jan 42.4%......14/33 in 7 games Feb 18.4%.......7/38 in 8 games.....not sure if he broke up with GF or injured wrist dunking on people during this month March 32.6%.....15/46 in 8 games....wrist was getting better lol ___________ Season: 35.8% (3P%) Starter (34 games): 34.3% (3P%) on 58/169.....5.0 3PA's / game Starter (34 games): 53.9% (2P%) on 132/245....7.2 2PA's / game I'm not worried about floaters or mid range shots since the Rockets frown on those shots as well. Floaters can be left up to Thilla, Porter, JC, Tate, Sengun. I have no doubt that Ivey beyond NBA 3-point range will open avenues for Porter, Green, JC to maneuver through and allow Sengun freedom to work the post up. Green shot the 3-pointer better at seasons end and Porter was 48% from 3 in catch and shoot.....so they will open up avenues for Ivey, who just needs a little space to explode to the rim and wreck havock. Ivey was also a decent rebounder and likes to get the ball to initiate the fast break where he is a holy terror. Imagine Westbrook speed and athleticism constantly pushing the ball and forcing the defense to get 3 players back. ------------------------ Defense will need some guidance but has all the tools of foot speed, hand speed, leaping ability, wingspan, muscle/strength to compete defensively as some of the top wing players do as well. His Foul Rate was relatively low for someone as active as he was defensively. ___________________ I would draft him #3. Find other defensive minded D & 3 players with great wingspans next to him to form a very formidable squad with quickness, speed, athleticism, and competitive basketball drive. Find Nix another home.
Actually Nix is also a scrub. He didnt even reach House or Gary Bird status his stats on the team have been horrible.
Nix had a bad first year as a pro on the ignite, but followed it up with a great 2nd season on the Vipers. He definitely blew up in the G league last year. But how many guys have we seen do that? Plenty. Plenty that aren’t in the NBA anymore. And plenty who are fringe roster players. It’s the rare exception that an undrafted guy blows up the G league and then becomes a long term rotational player in the nba. When Nix got actual minutes in nba games towards the end of the season he looked lost to me; he looked slow. It’s a small sample size so we shouldn’t give it too much weight, but the reality is that all of this talk about The FO seeing Nix as a lotto pick is pure lunacy. They know it; hopefully the fans know it. He’s an Armoni Brooks type value until he proves something. He’s possibly not an nba player. I hope i’m wrong, but I’m not buying that he’s much of a factor in the team’s thinking.
Nix means absolutely nothing to me. We could cut him tomorrow and I wouldn't even be mad. Why are we always so obsessed with these barely NBA players. Rather just develop JC into a playmaker.
And I'd advise patience. No one is obsessed, but Rocket fans are fanatics, by definition. Nothing wrong with that. Nix is young enough to fool everyone, and that is what we are all hoping for, a diamond in the rough. Anyone that was here for Lowry can understand. (The hatred that Morey incurred when he traded our starting PG for Kyle Lowry...)
I was here for Lowry. That's around the time I started lurking and not long before I made my account. At that point he'd shown a lot more flashes than Nix. I mean, Nix isn't even TWill level, Jones is the proper comparison. We already have JC and Garuba and the 17th to be our hopefully they make it guys.
