I’m fine with moving him down, but acting like that’s just gonna fix the problem is pretty short sighted. I do think it would motivate his ass though. We need fiery, arrogant, pissed off Bregman back. He’s too grounded now. He used to be a punk ass that everyone hated but us, now he’s just a snore.
It's concerning to say the least so it's understandable that people are upset. We have a fire hydrant as a manager (apologies to fire hydrants) and a team underperforming. This isn't a tanking season where decisions don't matter. This is supposed to be a WS team.
It's weird that people are so hung up on this being Dusty's fault. As if dropping Bregman and moving up Pena will suddenly make C,CF and 1B stop being complete dead spots. Right now it's on Click to fix this. I'm not mad about the offseason, Yuli falling this hard and Bregman giving us this little were hard to see coming. If we stumble into October on the strength of a weak division and good pitching and score 4 runs on the way to elimination, he will deserve all the heat he gets. Bregman I think will be better, not 2019, but better. Otherwise this offense is exactly what it is, nobody else is gonna give us much more than they already are. The other top hitters are all having good seasons and Pena has been far better than we could have hoped.
Pena needs more at bats, that's entirely on Dusty. Bregman and Yuli need less at bats, that's entirely on Dusty.
Astros are third in MLB in June for expected wOBA. Only the Yankees and Jays have hit the ball better.
Maybe, but they can be better situationally. That would fix a lot of the issues. Bregman being closer to 2018 form would substantially improve the offense.
Yeah, cool. Please create more stats to tell me how we actually are good at hitting. I'm not against the advanced stats, but I can't stand when people use them to justify shittty hitting.
The issue is that statistic is only part of the picture. The Astros are great the 3 True outcomes (HR, Walks, SO). But they are below league average in runs per game and hits per game. So this can inflate a statistic that gives more value to "better hits", but it it also averages out the inherent randomness of depending on HR's to score. I mean part of all this strategy is the nature of this era of baseball, but it also shows that the Astros offense doesn't really have a fall back option at this point.
Any news on Jake Meyers? Sure would love to see him come back soon and be our everyday center fielder.
