The same. I get wanting him to slim down so he's more athletic (though could also backfire). SFs are typically more athletic which should make it easier for them to guard Paolo and more difficult for Paolo to guard them.
Paolo being able to defend the perimeter is all that matters. Rockets sing their positionless style. Whether he’s a point guard or a center fielder he needs the ability to guard the other players wing style players
What's wrong playing Sengun at C? Modern NBA is positionless. Just play your best five. Look at how GSW and Boston.
Williams was the rim defender. Banchero played defense more out on the wing. That's why the stats look like they do. Although Banchero should have more than.09 blocks per game as the weak side defender. I like Jalen Williams alot as well as Eason. Hopefully one of these guys will be there at 17. At that point in the draft you're looking for guys that can play more than fit. If you get a talented guy that fits then that's a bonus.
You wouldn't say the Celtics for example have a starting lineup of positions? SF Tatum PF Horford C Williams SG Brown PG Smart
not really because everyone in that lineup can play multiple positions. hench positionless. They have multiple combinations of playing these 5 players at any given time in a game
how many frontcourt players can? If any matchup is hunted you can get it, no matter who it is. that's the modern era. cross matches are not going anywhere
That's their starting lineup. Take a look at the top 3 lineup they used most. https://www.nba.com/stats/lineups/advanced/?Season=2021-22&SeasonType=Playoffs&TeamID=1610612738 Horford, G. Williams, Tatum, Brown, Smart (153 min) Horford, Tatum, Brown, White, Smart (118 min) Horford, R. Williams, Tatum, Brown, Smart (118 min)
That's their "Death" lineup equivalent. Green, Wiggins, Curry/Thompson/Poole/Payton Speed kills! That said I hope Rockets draft Jaden, replace Wood with a 3&D SF, play Sengun as center and get another 3&D SF/SG. Jaden and Green will be a terrific duo.
Agreed and bigs being able to switch and cover the PnR isn't new. Basketball isn't positionless. Things really haven't changed all that much in the last 20 years. The only things that have really changed are the 3 point shot and the pace of the game.
How many player can defend a superstar one on one? Defense is team effort. Remember CP3 and Booker were fishing for Luka to defend them and destroy him when he not playing defense? The series changed when Luka decided to play some defense and help come and force them to pass the ball.
yes basketball is now positionless. its been positionless for years where you need versatility to be able to play multiple positions. its definitely significantly different 20 years ago. Traditional pg's arent your majority. They are combo guards. wings can play a number of positions including handling the ball. frontcourt players are either benched or rotate as the only big on the floor or next to a pnr big or one that can shoot depending on personnel. plugging labels to an actual position is pretty meaningless in this day and age its not about covering just pnr. It's about covering in space in addition which makes it that more difficult pnr bigs who are limited defensively are a complete liability in this era. That wasnt the case 20 years ago.
Only a player like Draymond can make those lineups works because of his defense. We don't have a Draymond defensively
So they played Horford at C (which he has done for years) and G.Williams at PF? Which is what he is. But a big butted short Tucker type of.
That's why you draft and trade. Right? GSW was able to find Draymond. Celtics did it in a little bit different way but were able to do it. If you can't win with the current lineup then modify it. There's free agency and the draft. The scouts and the upper management should make it possible.
