Yeah, you can run stop signs and ride without a seat-belt. You can go breathe the air of someone who looks feverish and is coughing all over the place. You could avoid basic vaccinations that most of the developed world has agreed to implement -- and hey, with any luck, Florida with rescind all vax requirements of every kind. Life is full of risks. You'll notice that functioning societies determine basic rules that set a more or less agreed upon level of risks. You didn't like the imperfect bar set by the medical professionals with a novel viral pandemic. That's fine; it sucked for all of us. But now, those bars are pretty much gone, so you can go and catch and spread COVID and its many variants as much as you want now, all around the planet. So I truly don't get the continued whining. Why focus on something that annoyed you when it's pretty much gone? Those of us with immune compromised loved ones have to cope now -- not you. God but I hated those Billy Paulz Rockets. I still hate them. They still make me ANGRY!
You blasphemer.... Anyone that hates the 1980-1981 Rockets team doesn't belong here. Paultz led Houston to their first NBA Championship series.
I'll have to wear a mask again for 12 hours today, because...Germany. And no, they are not gone, globally. Look at the insanity in Shanghai (where I would have to go for business, under normal circumstances, and where one of our team members has been locked up at home under inhumane circumstances for months). I can tell you that there are politicians, both in Germany and in the US, who would happily follow China's example - like they did before.
Mrs @No Worries and I have been planning a European vacation since pre-covid times. We decided to postpone it for yet another year, mainly because we do not want to book it in the spring without knowing the covid rules will in the summer. If we had to quarantine 7 days on a 10 day vacation to Ireland, what would be the point?
Hey!!!! Without the Whopper's 15 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and relentless defensive pressure on Jabbar, the Rockets lose game one (and probably the series) against the Lakers.
These "rules" are non-sensical at this point. And they have a real impact on people's lives, like in your example. People like @Major will just non-chalantly say "you have the option of staying at home if you don't like it". What if, in your situation, you have relatives there who are old and whom you might never see again? There were and partly still are rules in places like Germany where you wouldn't be allowed to see your dying relatives "because Covid". It's simply inhumane. But once governments and bureaucrats get extra powers (like with "temporary" taxes), they will not voluntarily give them up again. We are already seeing governments and politicians, at least in Europe, dreaming of instituting lockdowns "because of the climate emergency". Civil liberties and freedom die inch by inch.
Also, I feel for everyone who is immuno-compromised, has vulnerable relatives or has lost loved ones. The point is, these restrictions on liberties aren't making enough of a difference to be justified. The data shows it at this point. I also feel for people who lost loved ones in car, boating or plane accidents. We aren't going to outlaw cars, boats, planes because of it. At some point we have to accept that we will all die, eventually.
In that situation, you go visit them. And then you take the 20 minutes to take a Covid test and go home. Worst case, you spend an extra week whereever your relatives live. But hopefully by having you spend an oppressive 20 minutes to take a test, if you did have Covid, the government prevented you from spreading it to your old relatives and getting them killed. After all, protecting its own citizens is a government's literal reason for existence. Agreed. Like banning head scarves or preventing teachers from teaching things you don't like or punishing companies for exercising free speech rights. All things you vehemently support. You're not remotely a civil libertarian - you full-throatedly endorse fascism when it supports your agenda.
FWIW, you haven't needed a covid test for Ireland for the last several months. But if you do go somewhere that requires one, I'd get cancellation insurance - you wouldn't have to quarantine as you'd get the test before you left the US. So it would still suck, but you'd just stay at home. The real quarantining issue was if you test positive while abroad and the US wouldn't let you back in.
A head scarf is a sign of oppression, not of liberty. Preventing activist ideologues from indoctrinating our children with woko haram ideology means defending rights of parents and children. Preventing companies with quasi-governmental powers like Disney from imposing woke indoctrination for (falsely) presumed financial gain means defending civil liberties. Of course, an idiot like @Major would not understand any of that.
I assume it was deleted because it was so embarrassing for the tweeter. A leftist activist talking about sequestering and isolating her toddler (including from the mother) in a separate room because the child tested positive. Rightfully got a lot of backlash. Loving parents who are not ideologues would not do this.
Well... I'm on a plane to go see my grandkids tomorrow. If I were to test positive for COVID I'd stay away from them. Is that a bad thing?
No, it's of course common courtesy as it always has been. How is that even a question. But for a mother to sequester her toddler in a separate room is cruel (and idiotic). P.S.: I am also on a (very delayed) plane. Are you up in the air or also sitting on the tarmac?
Yes...first in the northeast, now in South Florida. Had to downgrade myself to get onto the earlier flight and to still have a fighting chance to make my intercontinental flight. Safe travels!!
Same to you. I saw where we might get typical thunderstorms for a bit around the time we left, so I was expecting a short delay, but fortunately nothing sprung up. Also, this time of year I do what I can to avoid leaving or arriving in the evening.
