Biden says a lot of dumb things and frequently embellishes the truth. All politicians do that to some level. I have no problem with calling them out on it no matter what the party.

All I ask is to be consistent...call out both sides as much as possible regardless of your own party affiliation.

Biden’s fantastical claim of $500 in annual utility savings

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/06/02/bidens-fantastical-claim-500-annual-utility-savings/

    excerpt:

    The Pinocchio Test
The president wrote in an opinion article on his inflation plan — presumably vetted by staff — that utility executives told him “my plan would reduce the average family’s annual utility bills by $500.”

But he didn’t hear that from utility executives.

And the report he is citing is not about household utility-bill savings.

Most of the claimed savings comes from the reduced cost of driving.

And the estimate is for 2030 — when he would no longer be president, even if he served a second term.

Is there any doubt the president earns Four Pinocchios?

geezus, even CNN is fact-checking the Big Guy now

Fact check: Biden falsely claims US has 'fastest-growing economy in the world'

    https://www.cnn.com/2022/06/10/poli...stest-growing-economy-jimmy-kimmel/index.html

    excerpt:

In a Wednesday appearance on the ABC late-night show "Jimmy Kimmel Live!," President Joe Biden made a dramatic claim about the US economy -- and repeated himself for emphasis.

"Look, here's where we are. We have the fastest-growing economy in the world. The world. The world," Biden said.

Facts First: Biden's claim is false. The US economy grew by 5.7% in 2021, but more than 50 other countries had faster growth that year, figures published by the International Monetary Fund show; many of them are small or developing countries, but some of them are large or wealthy. In addition, the US economy shrank in the first quarter of 2022, while various other countries experienced growth. And while economic experts expect the US economy to resume growing over the rest of this year, a significant number of other countries are expected to grow faster.

Asked for comment on Friday, a White House official did not attempt to specifically defend Biden's claim that the US has the fastest-growing economy in the world.

Not ‘Putin’s Price Hike’: Fed chair Powell breaks with Biden on inflation

    https://nypost.com/2022/06/22/not-putins-price-hike-fed-chair-breaks-with-biden-on-inflation/

    excerpt:

Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell on Wednesday broke with President Biden’s repeated attempts to blame Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine for the highest inflation in 40 years.

Powell, confirmed last month to a second term as chairman, explained to the Senate Banking Committee that “inflation was high before” the Feb. 24 Russian invasion of Ukraine, which increased global food and energy prices.

Biden’s bogus boast of 1 million ‘construction jobs’

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/08/18/bidens-bogus-1-million-construction-jobs-boast/

    excerpt:

    The Pinocchio Test
There’s often a temptation for a politician to cite the highest possible job creation for a new policy. But the president stumbled badly here. In public remarks, and then in a tweet, he claimed 1 million construction jobs would be created because of the Chips Act.

The real number was just 6,200, according to the industry-commissioned report cited as the source. If you wanted to be generous, you could say the report said 56,000 jobs would be supported by construction. If you wanted to be very generous, you could say 1 million jobs would be supported in the “construction phase” of the law. But that would be overly generous, given that the White House amplified Biden’s statement in a tweet; it was not a simple misspeak.

There’s also the separate issue as to whether indirect and especially induced jobs should be part of such political talking points — especially in an uncertain economic period when the number of jobs may not expand.

But in any case, there is no reason to get the number so wrong — twice. While the White House concedes a “mix-up,” the tweet has not been deleted; neither has the official transcript been corrected. The president earns Four Pinocchios.

Pretty sure that going 55 straight days without telling a single lie is a record for a modern day president.

Technically if Biden gets blamed for the inflation, then shouldn't he get credit for the COLA? :)

A Bottomless Pinocchio for Biden — and other recent gaffes

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/11/07/bottomless-pinocchio-biden-other-recent-gaffes/

    excerpt:

President Biden is a self-described “gaffe machine.” That’s no excuse, of course, for a president making false or misleading statements. Readers have asked for fact checks of a variety of recent Biden statements, but none of them seemed big enough for a stand-alone fact check. So here’s a roundup of some of the president’s recent errors of fact, made as he has barnstormed the country boosting Democrats and raising contributions in advance of the midterm elections. We generally do not award Pinocchios for roundups like this — but for reasons that will become clear, we need to make an exception for the first one.

“Folks, I spent a lot of time — more time with Xi Jinping than any other head of state. … I’ve traveled 17,000 miles with him.”
remarks at a political event in San Diego, Nov. 3

This is an old claim we had debunked shortly after Biden took office, giving him Three Pinocchios. There is no evidence Biden traveled that much with Xi, the president of China — and even if we added up the miles Biden flew to see Xi, it still did not total 17,000 miles. The White House could not offer an explanation for that number either.

But it’s noteworthy because, despite our fact check and a White House admission that Biden’s line of “traveling with” Xi was not accurate, with this comment, Biden had made the claim 20 times during his presidency. (He then said it a 21st time a few hours later, in another speech, with a slight twist: “… when I traveled 17-, 18,000 miles with him.”) Biden is so fond of this bogus statistic that he even mentioned it during high-profile speeches such as a joint session of Congress and a commencement address.

Why is this significant? Readers may recall that during Donald Trump’s presidency, we established a new category, the Bottomless Pinocchio, to account for false or misleading statements repeated so often that they became a form of propaganda. A statement would get added to the list if it had earned a Three or Four Pinocchios rating and been repeated at least 20 times. By the end of the Trump presidency, 56 claims made by Trump had qualified.

Now Biden has earned his own Bottomless Pinocchio.
