Forgot he was on the roster. With two more first round picks coming this season he will be buried even further on the bench.
Reasons listed. You avoid. I move on. For the love of Tracy McGrady stop calling him a role player he averaged 26 minutes a night.
You didn't list reasons you ignore worse defense in others but use bad defense as an excuse to foolishly suggest cutting Mathews, you just said there were reasons. Sorry killer, you went with an indefensible hot take.
Jalen Green gets less **** because: Literally in list form: He was a teenager in the NBA. He has 3 level, 30ppg scoring, superstar potential drafted 2nd overall. He isn't good but isn't comically bad at defense and actually has potential to grow due to improving knowledge and general athleticism. Actually stays in front of defenders or has the athleticism to recover, contest shots, get around picks, spy passing lanes, and has a defensive aptitude that isn't entirely limited to flopping to get charge calls or flopping into a pick. I'm religiously devoted to Jalen Green's hair. These are the reasons Jalen Green isn't on the shitcan list but keep pretending you are happy with short, slow, floppy, sub 30% on the road happy trigger Gary Linsanity playing 26 minutes a game because he's better than old, disinterested Eric Gordon.
Garrison gave us some moments to cheer in an otherwise dismal season. He's the kind of hustle and heart player we need on the team. He's 25, let's see how he looks this season. Hopefully he's worked on his handle a lot this off-season. But he brings some instant offense and dynamite hustle that this team needs. We have far more areas to worry about than this guy.
You say this but he's literally worse than Mathews defensively.... Anyway, it's fine, it's pretty obvious you have done weird irrational nonsense going on and since it's irrational that means attempting to discuss it is pointless.
lol irrational? Mathews gets some boost in defensive rating because he'll get charges, does the stat show how he takes 5 terrible blocking flops before getting that all important charge? Current Charles Barkley could cross him up. I've never seen a pro player have his entire body, feet, everything pointed the wrong direction because of basic dribble moves and so often. He doesn't contest 3s or drives. He can't get around picks. He just flails around and gets calls occasionally. Stats? Hide behind a stat THAT SAYS HE'S BAD AT DEFENSE, move the goal post and try to deflate some other player that actually started showing the ability to play competent defense at 19 years old in the world's best professional league. Then pretend like you don't know why that astronomically more talented player is considered in the same light as a fringe player that's an extended shooting slump away from being out of the league forever. Step 1, ignore every point I made. Step 2, hide behind that one stat that definitely doesn't paint him in a good defensive light. Step 3, move the goal post. Step 4, act like you're right. Step 5, try to demean me personally having addressed nothing. Garrison Mathews is an incompetent defender. Prove me wrong.
Just so we're clear....you never made ANY valid points. What you said has been either completely inaccurate, or at minimum wildly exaggerated. You ignore the fact that there are alleged stars on the team that were OBJECTIVELY WORSE defensively....but that's somehow okay because it's only bad when low paid role players aren't stellar defensively......and at the same time he was a more efficient scorer than some of those alleged stars. Not bad for a low paid role player. Like I said, you are completely irrational about this and I'm not quite sure why. There's literally no valid argument for Mathews to be cut. None. Could he be part of trades? Of course, but he's a valuable role palyer on a very team friendly contract. It's flat out stupid to even attempt to argue otherwise.
Matthews is one of the worst defenders I've seen in a long time. He can't stay in front of anyone. I remember Dort having his way with him.
Saying Mathews is a bad defender is a valid point. Somehow it's ok with you that a low paid role player who has zero potential to grow is bad at defense but not a teenager who made like a thousand highlight reel plays. But keep saying I wildly exaggerate things when you are calling anyone on this team "star". Where's the context with whatever defensive stat you're talking about? Garrison's tally doesn't include the first 8-9 weeks of shitshow and Jalen's does. You want to pin that on Jalen too? Efficiency stats are great, where's the context though? He can't get his own shot, only takes 3s. At least you're finally calling him a starter OH **** WAIT.
My psychic said she doesn't know who Gary bird is, but Garrison Matthews can be solid off the bench. Not everyone needs a nickname. Especially when you are comparing him to an all time great. Just let Garrison be Garrison.
I think Gary’s D is much better than he’s getting credit for. He’s poor defending on ball, especially in PNR. However, I thought he was one of the best on the team at help and rotations. He also chases guys around and makes them work to get open. If there are stats that contradict that I’m open to them though.
One of the locked on podcasts went through his numbers and his not a good defender at all. His charge % is 1/5 or something like that compared to being called the other way, he does chase hard that makes him look like his a better defender than he is.
I really like Gary, but it kills me that he plays over Christopher. Gary is a solid 12th man, but wtf?
