I'll simply disagree. I think Bhagwat makes a pretty good case that the concept of "free speech" need not be so narrowly defined, and that there's actually more in common there (re: what you call " 'partial' free speech lands") than people might think

I've made the point about the sorites paradox before. There is no clean, unambiguous line that divides "partial free speech lands" from "free speech lands." It's more of a continuum than a clean split. The extremes at each end are clearly different, but with each gradation along the scale there is no clear dividing line.

In all honesty I'd have to dive into this more deeply to really debate this precisely. This is an area of your field of expertise not mine.

But I don't think there's an autocratic gov't in the world where you can criticize the gov't / its leaders without fear of reprisal. That's an absolute in those kinds of gov't. But it's also the case in some democracies.

If you want to expand free speech outside the political arena, then yeah it becomes a much more vague idea that's hard to draw lines, but I still don't think it's a paradox. That's because when people talk about free speech they usually mean the ability to criticize those in power versus things like censoring nudity.

Having kept up so... what's interesting? That ending democracy doesn't mean ending free speech? Yea, maybe academically (and I'm not even sure for what reasons). I find that quite irrelevant and at the bottom of my concerns about living under an authoritarian government.

    Interesting to me I guess.

I get your passions and concerns around this and many other topics. I share a lot of them. I just have realized letting those emotions get to involved is not helpful as it leads to personal attacks on others which then just becomes venting. Are we here to vent or to try to have discussion and debate. Even if no one changes their mind, at least we can understand how and why others think what they do.

This footage and testimony is devistating and sad.

It's amazing the evidence pointing to the pre-planning and how it demolishes the defense line of those that claimed that the attacks started before the president's speech.

The fact that they did is a detriment to Trump's defense, not a bolster.

There was nothing to downplay. To do so is disgusting. Police were tear gassed, pepper sprayed, crushed and beat.

Cheney said this wasnt a spontaneous event. Why did Pelosi and bowser ignore calls for the national guard? I am curious if this will be addressed.

only reason some of the dumbasses on here weren’t in DC storming the Capitol is because they couldn’t afford the plane ticket

It won’t be addressed because it’s a lie that’s been debunked over and over. What distorted reality do you live in where your reaction to the hearing is to dredge up debunked conspiracies.

Jan 6th committee: Look at all this evidence of a Trump coup.
    Astrodome: but what about Pelosi

It’s unreal how brainwashed you guys are.

So... you think the attempted disruption of the certification of the electoral votes by violent means should simply be ignored?
