I'd be ok with letting him test FA and match if it's not insane.

Still the league took notice of his outstanding performance at the end of last season.

Truth is there is no evidence about whether his value is good or bad. I, for one, suspect a lot of teams would gladly take a flyer on him.

I’m glad the Rox did, and continue to do so.

Is he a restricted free agent or just a free agent at the end of his contract? & Will his ego be intact afterwards?

Every team will take a flyer on him but flyers normally don’t cost very much. If the price is right he can retire a Rocket.

    but…
I am sure like most people he wants to get paid accordingly. Do we want to be the team to pay him knowing we will have others to pay soon too & Knowing the behavior didn’t change the tolerance level did?

Random thought…. Most don’t get burned the first time they play with fire. BUT everyone that plays with fire has burns on their skin. Much the same way casinos stays open even when people win.

Nix totally dominated Gleague defenders last season. Nobody could handle him. Unique combination of size, strength, and skills at the point. Bully ball at the point.

we should see soon enough how he acclimates at the NBA level. He's got great room to grow, physical advantages already, and his skills are developing very, very well. I'm optimistic. but he'll have to get the weight thing under control or it'll crater his career. I do like him big though.

Would love to see us bring in Lofton, Jr. and let Nix and Lofton, Jr run the bench unit together.

Dominated to the tune of 16 pts, 5 assists on 40% shooting from the floor and a negative Offensive Win Share.

The Rockets took a cheap flyer on Nix, hoping for lightning in a bottle. I haven’t really been that impressed in the sparse minutes he got in the NBA, but who knows maybe he’s the next Kyle Lowry. If it doesn’t work out no big deal. We’re not ready to compete yet and backup PG is not much of a priority.

Just FYI, you're looking at his Showcase Cup stats. Nix averaged 20.6 points on 47.9% shooting -- 39.5% from 3 -- and 7.6 assists during the regular G League season.

    As for Nix.

They have him on a 4 year deal at a small number so there isn't a lot of risk involved.

He is 6'4" and 220 lbs so he has the size to guard both perimeter positions and possibly even switch onto 3's in a pinch if needed.

He is 20 years old and had two years experience in the G-League, so that has to be considered when looking at his numbers.

He was really out of shape on the ignite, he also seemed to be poorly prepared to be a professional. That added with a lack of explosiveness had him fall from a mid first rounder to undrafted.

The Sixers brought him in (no way) and then the Rockets poached him and worked with him.

As he got in shape and the organization gave him attention, he really started to perform well.

He had a very strong season with the Vipers and was really nasty in the playoffs.

He should be excited, but lots of guys have excelled in the G-League and not in the NBA.

Let's see what happens this year and that will tell us a lot.

I think having him as a back up point guard is a reasonable expectation and anything after that is extra.

One thing I will say that I find interesting is that the Rockets have some degree of interest in Ty Ty Washington and Jean Montero and they are both point guards and with Porter and Nix on the roster, that is an interesting revelation.

I'm glad they took a chance on him too. However he needs to take care of the ball better and definitely work on his FT shooting, which was atrocious for a player of his skill level.

In the end I think KPJ would be best suited for an instant offense 6th man role, playing 25-30 mins per game. I could be wrong though because he's so young.

OOPs, you are not viewing the right stats sir....

Nix - Regular season Gleague stats.

    https://www.basketball-reference.com/gleague/teams/RGV/2022.html

    21.9ppg
    .498 FG%
    .400 3pt%
    7.6 apg

Those are his true stats, you were reviewing a small sample size in the showcase cup.....

That is LOTTERY PICK material for a 19 year old.

Do you think Tyty at 17 makes sense? He’s arguably a lottery talent and neither KPJ nor Nix have demonstrated they are the long term solution at point.

I have heard his name connected to the Rockets several times.

If the wings the Rockets want are gone, and Ty Ty is there... there is a good chance they take him as the best talent on the board.

They can and do run a lot of 3 guard stuff and Washington is capable of playing multiple spots and defending multiple spots.

Would TyTy be an insurance policy for KPJ? Or maybe a trade chip for next year if he plays well?

I'm guessing the wings the Rockets are targeting in this draft are probably Daniels, Sochan, Eason, and Dieng?

Well yea with that mindset, we can see why u had such a negative/wrong take on green last season.

Maybe learn to adapt and accept that g league stats provides some value.

Kid, we've been over this, if G league stats meant anything Terrence Jones and Isiah Hartenstein would be future HOFers.

Stop embarrassing yourself with this G league BS.
