Some 90th% MLB value comps for some upper level guys who shined in May: Corey Julks: Hunter Renfroe Yainer Diaz: Alejandro Kirk Justin Dirden: Chris Taylor (if Taylor only played OF) Wilyer Abreu: Tommy Pham (except left handed) Enmanuel Valdez: Trent Grisham (bat only) Also, I think Grae Kessinger is about to break out. I expect him to have a good month of June.
FCL kicked off today. The roster on MiLB.com are shaky, and the FCL Astros Orange team doesn't seem to even have an official link. But the Blue team started off with a win behind SS Dauri Lorenzo's 3-4 day. The Orange team lost. A quick rundown of their current rosters: FCL Blue: C: Juan Santander, Fernando Caldera, Ricardo Toro IF: Narbe Cruz, Yamal Encarnacion, Dauri Lorenzo, Yohander Martinez, Dexter Jordan OF: Adonis Giron, Richel Del Rosario, Omar Diaz, Luis Perez P: Reimy Beltre, Gerardo BOjorquez, Walker Brockhouse, Kevin Dickey, Ronny Garcia, Colton Gordon, Geremy Guerrero, Carlos Hiraldo, Roger Jorge, Eurys Martich, Alex Palmer, Johangel Ramirez, Juan Soto, Danny Subero, Luis Vega, Yefri Carrillo Notes: Santander and Lorenzo are the 2 big bonus guys on this roster. Gordon, Ramirez, Cruz, Martinez, del Rosario, Caldera, Subero, Vega, and Carrillo also received notable bonuses as amatuers. Lorenzo is by far the best prospect on this roster and the only guy that would be on any org Top 30 lists anytime soon, but there's a good amount to talent in this group. Guerrero (UDFA) and Jorge (Cuban int'l signee) were 2 names I hadn't seen previously. FCL Orange: C: Luis Encarnacion, Carlos Hurtado IF: Ricardo Balogh, Josue Payano, Hector Nieves, Rolando Espinosa OF: Frank Perez, Roilan Machandy, Richi Gonzalez, Christopher Morales, Everette Cooper P: Mark Moclair, Cristofer Mezquita, Ian Foggo, Jose Andujar, Carlos Espinosa, Johan Figueroa, Elvis Garcia, Kevin Holcomb, Marshall Hunt, Jeremy Molero, Jose Nodal, Daniel Pacheco, Bryan Perez Notes: No big bonus players on this roster, but Carlos Espinosa, Holcomb, Balogh, Nieves, Machandy, Gonzalez, Morales, and Cooper all received notable bonuses. Considering they're fielding 2 teams before the draft, there's a respectable amount of talent on this 2nd team. The FCL/DSL roster updates leave 5 players in roster limbo: Jairo Lopez, Riley Cabral, Danyuri Guzman, Normar Torres, and Jorge Geraldo. I assume they are all injured and in the complex league so not on those rosters yet, although I think Geraldo is suspended.
Carlos Gomez was clocked at 103+ in 2015 with the Stros Aaron Hicks holds the statcast record at 105.5 Not sure why nobody really tracks that statistic and makes it readily available
Espinosa skipping the DSL is a decent, but not terribly surprising sign, given his age. I'm a little surprised that Elvis Garcia is in the FCL. Garcia got mentioned by BA as someone in their signing class that set himself apart early, and he pitched 6 games in Fayetteville last year with good results. I had just assumed he was hurt, but he's listed as active.
Just saw this. I have heard nothing official from the organization, this is the only source I can find talking about him. Was wondering about him. I knew he underwent TJS last year and was curious when we'd start to see him in Minor League action. He's somebody I liked as a sleeper, I think he'd have gone 2 or even 3 rounds higher if not for TJS.
Brayan Nolasco and Waner Luciano both hit their first home runs as pros for the DSL Orange team today. Nolasco is a Dominican OF who signed on January 15 last year, while Luciano is a Dominican infielder who was one of the 15 players who signed on January 15 of this year.
Valente Bellozo pitched an inning in that game on a rehab assignment. He was a breakout guy in 2019 then got hurt and missed last season. He will be one to watch once he gets back into full season ball.
My hope for Barber is a 200+ pa audition in AA to end the season; if he is able to post >120 wRC+ in that stretch he will warrant Top 100 mentions this offseason in my opinion.
Bellozo is listed as being on the FCL Orange roster, but that's me picking at nits as usual... hopefully he'll be able to regain the momentum he was building after 2019.
Yes he is, and far more frequently than Diaz. Heck, I think Diaz has been playing more outfield lately than catching. As far as his defense goes, he has a weak arm (for a catcher), but supposedly his receiving and framing is good (which matter more in today’s game).
Have you been able to find an official site for that roster? I haven’t. His player card lists him as FCL Orange but the transactions on his player card list him getting there via being sent on a rehab assignment from Fayetteville, and he still shows up on Fayetteville’s roster with 60 day DL status.
Shows you how much MILB dot com actually cares about complex league coverage, lol. At least the gamecast updates in a timely fashion
