I am excited about Brown's future But how does he possibly fit into Houston now? He needs continued innings and development. Bring him up in April break camp as #5/6 SP
Top 7 in the AAA lineup toinght: 1. Leon RF 2. Julks 3B 3. Meyers CF 4. Jones 1B 5. Matijevic 1B 6. Hensley 2B 7. Lee C How many MLB games is that top 7 capable of winning with a decent pitching staff? 70? It's pretty good upper level depth for a weak farm system IMO.
No kidding. It’s going to get a lot harder though as the effect of the draft penalties begins to percolate through the system.
Julks just absolutely crushed another home run. Lmao. Keep it up dude. And Jake pops up in his first AB back. Still looks built though. Taylor Jones first at bat - demolishes a ball out to left.
Who homered today Corey Julks (13, solo) Taylor Jones (1, solo) Alex De Goti (6, 3-run) Wilyer Abreu (7, 2-run) Zach Daniels (7, 3-run) C.J. Stubbs (2, 2-run) A.J. Lee (2, solo) Miguel Palma (3, solo) Bryant Salgado and Miguel Ullola combined to throw a 3-hit shutout in Fayetteville's 3-0 win. Salgado: 5 IP, 3 H, BB, 7 K Ullola: 4 IP, 6 K; he faced one batter over the minimum due to an error. It's been a tough introduction to the Texas League for Adrian Chaidez, but he turned in 4 solid innings of relief: 4 IP, 2 H, ER, 5 K; the run came on a solo homer.
Misael Tamarez had a pretty tough May... he allowed runs in all but one of his appearances last month and he allowed at least two runs in all of them. Tamarez got his June off to an electric start as he allowed just one hit (a solo homer), walked 2, and struck out 10 in 5.2 innings tonight.
Of the DSL Roster guys, who are the bonus babies? Not that it really matters who got what, but just out of curiosity. Juan Soto cost 1.5M in 2015, btw.
On the Blue team, OF Kenni Gomez and IF Alberto Hernandez are the only guys who got significant bonuses that I know of. On the Orange team, it is OF Luis Baez and OF Anderson Sanchez.
Dug into this a little more. Here are the bonuses I found for the DSL players: Luis Baez, OF, Dominican Republic – $1,300,000 (MLB Pipeline) Alberto Hernandez, SS, Cuba – $950,000 (Francys Romero) Kenni Gomez, OF, Cuba – $775,000 (Francys Romero) Samuel Capellán, IF, Dominican Republic – $500,000 (MLB Pipeline) Carlos Espinosa, RHP, Cuba – $480,000 (Francys Romero) Rafael Ramirez, 3B, Dominican Republic – $360,000 (MLB Pipeline) Áxell De Paula, OF, Dominican Republic – $300,000 (MLB Pipeline) Anderson Sanchez $350k I think it can be safely assumed no other players on the DSL roster received more than $200k. I did see a video of OF Andy Colon taking batting practice where it showed trackman data that was neat. He was sitting at 90-94 exit velo. There are now 25 players in roster limbo who I assume will form the bulk of the 2nd FCL roster: C: Fernando Caldera, Ricardo Toro, Carlos Hurtado IF: Josue Payano, Yamal Encarnacion, Luis Encarnacion OF: Christopher Morales, Everette Cooper, Richel Del Rosario, Adonis Giron P: Danny Subero, Johangel Ramirez, Danyuri Guzman, Eurys Martich, Jose Andujar, Kevin Dickey, Jairo Lopez, Carlos Hiraldo, Elvis Garcia, Alex Palmer, Darwin Rosario, Juan Soto, Normar Torres, Jorge Geraldo
Luis Victorino, a RHP on the DSL Blue team, is listed as being -2 months old on his MILB profile page
If the Astros think it’s real, they will comment on it. They did it with Pena, Siri (to a point), Meyers, Correa, Bregman, Javier and others. The only ones they have been “wrong on” was Tucker (who took a little longer than they expected but they also said he could sulk) and Josh James (who has been injured). Scouts outside the organization say he needs to catch up to heaters up in the zone better. I don’t know how I feel about him. I didn’t get the “this guy turned the corner feel” I got from Meyers and Pena or the “holly ****” the first time I saw Alvarez go opp field for a homer on a pop up he was fooled on.
Astros have data that suggests signing players as embryos leads to really good outcomes. Let’s see if it pays off for them.
Good list. Two names stick out. Oscar Tavares who was going to at least be an all star. Only 20 and HOF tools. The other one is AJ Reed who just melted down mentally and refused counseling or help. Sad story because he could really rake.
