Acquiring Kyrie would only be about flipping him to a contender for future draft pick assets and possible other young talent.

So you're expecting Kyrie to play second fiddle to who exactly? If he's not immediately your best player - and rest assured he will be bc he's as talented as any player in the league - why exactly are you trading for him? He isn't some wily, team-first veteran looking to mentor some young bucks.

"Better veteran presence than Gordon".... I mean.... wut? Gordon has been praised for his veteran presence repeatedly. You could make an argument that he wasn't traded this year precisely for that reason.

    What a baffling post.

Just take a step back and think: If the Nets are willing to give up Kyrie for Wall....what does that say about Kyrie? Even if we attached a 1st rounder to Wall, what does that say about Irving, that he's worth a 1st rounder and a player that hasn't seen the court as an NBA player in over a year?

    So let's use that then

Kyrie won a ring with lebron then decided he didn't want to play with Lebron... he demanded a trade. What was he thinking? Didn't want to be Robin? OK let's see how good you are at being Batman...

Went to Boston and that team underperformed so he didn't go back even after being quoted as wanting to return. Boston moved on fine without him... good thing they have their Batman in Tatum

He goes to Nets and suddenly nets go from favorites on paper to on the verge of imploding.

Whether you're the team or Irving somehow it ends ... on mutual terms... "good riddance"

Kyrie is the epitome of a toxic player. That Boston team with Hayward, Tatum and Brown should have been a dynasty with all that talent but Kyrie ruined it.

He can’t be relied upon either physically with injuries or mentally and he’s now in his 30s. Doubt his body is going to somehow be more durable.

I don't believe this helps them out of their troubles, assuming the only trade we would consider is Wall for Irving straight up. Wall won't help them, but losing Irving will upset Durant and likely even result in him demanding a trade. If you think he wants to go into next season with two guys that didn't even play last year being the keys to their success you're sorely mistaken.

I think that this trade, much like trading for Wall for Westbrook for us, would signal the end for the Nets and begin their rebuild. They would likely be forced to do the same thing we did in trading Durant for as many picks as they can get to replenish what they lost in the Harden deal and go from there. The difference being their picks aren't protected.

As for Kyrie, I can't imagine the Rockets brass are stupid enough to want him anywhere near our young guys. He'd be bought out. And what's more, his full buyout is only 36.5 million; a full 10 million less than Wall is owed. And I suspect they'd buy Wall out today if he'd be willing to drop the money owed by 10 million.

So, in the long shot case that the idea is Wall for Irving straight up, we'd accomplish getting Wall off our books at a considerably reduced price and without attaching assets, we would effectively dismantle a team whose picks we own for the foreseeable future, and we'd add an open roster spot rather than having Wall/Irving taking up space and not even playing.

Tell me how we lose? I can't see it. This, in my estimation, would be one of the best trades I've ever seen.

It says we can buy him out for 10 million cheaper than Wall or, possibly, explore trading him to LA for Westbrook and a future pick or two. It also says Durant would likely demand a trade and the picks they owe us would DRAMATICALLY increase in value. I'm ALL IN on this.

Kyrie is a terrible fit and a very bad choice if the Rockets peruse....that tells me we'll probably end up with him.

There is no point in acquiring a player of Kyrie's caliber, to say nothing of his unreliability, at this point in the rebuild. If anything, our pick protections going to OKC mean that we should actively tank at least one more season to continue acquiring talent.

Kyrie would be a horrible influence on Jalen, Paolo (assuming #3 pick), Sengun, etc. Why bring his baggage into the locker to room in order to win too many games to keep our own pick, but not enough to be a real contender?

I swear, some of y'all want us to become the Knicks.

I don't know if anyone saw the "30 for 30" last night on the And1 mixtape era, but Kyrie was on it and he was saying how And1 guys were separated from real NBA players because, though talented they were unprofessional and disregarded their health.

Self awareness goes up to 11

    You got it all wrong.

Wall for Kyrie and the next #1 pick they can deal away.

    Wall plays in Brooklyn.

Kyrie is bought out for $11m less than Wall's buyout.

Rockets clear a roster spot, save $11m and get a future first round pick.

I want nothing to do with Irving on the Rockets. As part of some unlikely trade where we move him on to another team while also moving Wall, and get multiple value contracts in return? You bet!

    - What @Corrosion posted looks terrific!

First off, I’m just now noticing the word “rumor” in the title. This is not a rumor. An analyst thinks the Nets should make this trade because he feels that Wall could help them more than Kyrie. Maybe, maybe no. Either way, I don’t see how this trade could ever happen, especially involving an picks from the Rockets.

The Rockets are not yet in a position to win, so this is not a trade they need to make. They are holding onto Wall in order to extract players or draft capital out of him. Once those options are gone, the will buy him out or cut him. There is no reason to swap Wall for Kyrie without getting some sort of compensation for it. We are still in player development mode and Wall willingly sitting out rather than coming off the bench has worked out well. I doubt it would be so harmonious with Kyrie. In order to do tge Nets that solid, we need significant compensation. But wait, there’s more…

Because our future draft picks are tied directly to the Nets’ fortunes, I would be hesitant to do anything to influence it. Even if we thought that the Nets would be worse with Wall, you could have a situation where after the trade Kyrie gets injured or suspended and Wall plays 80% of his games at above replacement level. Even if we think we are making a move that benefits us, it could backfire. We could effectively be sabotaging our future draft picks from the Nets. So I would need more compensation than the Nets could offer to make a trade with them.

I just don’t think it’s a realistic option for many reasons.
