Of course defense matters.... but the Celtics and GSW didn't solve all the defensive issues through 2 drafts.

    this is correct.

draft BPA until you have 2-3 future stars. then give them through their rookie contracts to grow, learn defense, learn to play together... once its time to max extensions you can figure out if a change/trade is needed. same goes for the Sengun/paolo pairing. they're 19 and improving. sure, neither will ever be an elite above the rim defender, but if they can figure out how to play solid team D together while they offense is elite, the point differential starts to work in their favor. give them at least through their rookies deals to figure it out.

Don't worry. By mid-season all the naysayers will switch up just like they did with Jalen.

Klay Thompson is a Robin. He wouldn't be nearly as good if he was the man on another team and I think deep down people know that. He's a star role player. It's like people have convinced themselves that a Beta is good enough at #1. Jabari's shot creation is really limited outside of midrange pull-ups that are not even close to as efficient as people seem to think. He's good at getting to his spots but its always the same moves. I wonder how that works in the NBA and if he can get separation 1 on 1. At the very least he could score more that 5 paint points per 40 minutes as a 6'10 guy.

Klay is this comp now that everyone is talking about. There are a lot of great 3&D players but there is only one Klay. Chet and Paolo may never reach their potential but Jabari is definitely already Klay. lol please. Jabari has a long way to go to be Klay Thompson. If all 3 reach their potential, I'm not sure why you'd pick the Beta.

People have a short memory. All of the press about DeAndre Hunter was crazy a few years back. Does anyone remember how much this guy was hyped coming out of college? There are so many articles from that time proclaiming him the next great star 3&D player. Here is an article post draft comparing him to guess who.... Klay Thompson.
    https://soaringdownsouth.com/2019/06/20/2019-nba-draft-atlanta-hawks-deandre-hunter/

When it comes to the offense

    Jabari Smith - 17ppg .429% 3pt .420%
    Deandre Hunter - 15ppg .520% 3pt .438%

    Jabari TS% .570 eFG% 521
    Deandre TS% .618 eFG% .579

Deandre Hunter was NABC Defensive Player of the year.
This year the Naismith Defensive Player of the year went to Jabari....s..... teammate.

Outstanding college defense always automatically translates to the pros. Everyone knows this. Especially true for tall forwards with all of the tools. Thats why now we have articles like this from the same publication calling him Klay Thompson a few years ago.

I am no longer worried about Paolo because if this site hates him then that means he is the no brainer best of the top three. This is the same people who loved Morey, Dantoni and small ball. Blanchero is a gift and the best player in college.

I really like Jabari (he was my #1) but this is a good point.

    Great post.

And I still really like Jabari and if he's the third big left I'd be thrilled to have him.

LOL did you actually say Holmgren is the more physical finisher?

It's not physically possible and he rarely finished where he had to physically muscle anybody from what I have seen, while Banchero has a lot of video with him scoring through guys.

The difference between Boston and Miami is that Boston had more guys who could get their own shots while having a great team defense.

Being able to create points for yourself and others is probably the most important thing in the NBA and Smith and Holmgrens defense is not so much better than Banchero to override the fact that Banchero is levels above offensively than the other guys.

Nobody has any idea what is on NBA team's boards and no good team's front office has finished their big board yet since teams have to still get their private workouts in.

That duke did not have a ton of spacing, the only reliable 3 point threat was Griffin and everybody else was ok, they played with a 5 guy always in the dunker's spot.

He will get much better spacing in the NBA its not really debateable.
Klay had a much better dribbling package than Smith coming out of college I really don't see any of the comparisons to Klay.

He really is a better shooting Ariza and we all remember how he had trouble finishing at the rim or dribbling to score points.

You've spit these takes out and nauseum and have already been rebutted.

Let me off this merry go round.

NBA media mocks are based on their sources from NBA teams. Chad Ford for example is notorious for basing his mocks entirely on how teams feel about prospects.

As workouts are completed and draft gets closer, expect some revisions in draft order due to new info and/or team disinformation.

I don’t know why anyone would complain about any of the 3.

Chet is the clearly the most scary of the picks cos a lot of is unknown.

Jabari at worst will be a worthy 3 and D player, sort of like Rashard Lewis when he played with Dwight at Orlando but I can’t remember how good Rashards D was like but offense wise I see him as that.

Paolo looks like Blake did at Detroit, probably most lock of all 3 to be an all star one day.

Being 3 I’m happy because Chet will most likely be gone it’s just whether Orlando want someone who can score straight away as in Paolo or go with Smith Jr.

    Rebbuted by who?

Your spit takes are constantly rebutted as well, so I guess that makes us even.?

Do you actually think any actual front office guy is sharing what they think to anybody in the media and not just blowing smoke?

The bolded is exactly my point yet you seem to think somebody has compiled all of these team's draft boards and teams have Smith over Banchero which you can't possibly know, slow down my guy.

    Again you show your ignorance.

Banchero even at his size is more finesse crafty player than the more physical skinny AF Chet.

At the rim, Banchero shot 70.7 percent.

    https://www.nba.com/magic/news/2022-nba-draft-paolo-banchero-strengths-and-weaknesses-20220510

Chet Holmgren shot 88% at the rim.

No, I did not stutter or mistype that.

Was Blake really a star when he was in Detroit?

    Sincere question.

I am so certain that Banchero will be the guy in this draft much better than the other 2 I would trade up with future #1's to get him.

    Yeah I said it.:D
