Why is the forum inappropriate? He's just commenting on things he's cutting back on during this time of inflation and asking what others are doing. He didn't politicize anything. I suspect plenty of folks are cutting back on road trips and waiting to do home improvement projects and holding off on other big purchases.
Mostly going thru the freezer of stock piled over the past two years and rotating product caned goods ect. Planted a garden this year of somewhat of a success, learning as I go since I haven't gardened since I was a kid. My goal is to sell the house in Austin to take advantage of the stupid money people are throwing around and move to Arkansas to cut expenses and not have a house or car payment, remote work FTW!
Leverage credit card rewards Use coupons Use Slickdeals to check pricing on items you're shopping for Shop at Kroger to get their fuel rewards 2x points for buying gift cards there, they often have 4x points periods Use their CC for an extra $.25 off per gallon Or use another gas rewards CC Buy used on Facebook Marketplace. It's like a giant garage sale, people are just trying to get rid of ****. Better yet, buy gems here and resell on craigslist and ebay
price of lumber futures has dropped hard. Anyone who has put off a deck, shed or something can probably revisit that in a month or so when it ripples into retail.
Know a couple of dads who cut the cord few years back, but since then has picked up a number of streaming service. Cost bill is back up. So one consolidated, the other is thinking to do so. Can also do the 'rotation' thing (watch the exclusives, then cancel). The key was to check with the family (wife/kids), to make sure they were OK with it.
NW Arkansas prices have skyrocketed the past few years (like everywhere, I guess). That being said, it's still on my list of places to move to (eventually), but the cheap deals in somewhat populated areas are gone. But I'd expect prices to start coming down a bit in the next year or so (they already kind of are). You can still find cheaper stuff out in the country or rural areas, but then that's different living. But in any case, it's probably a bit cheaper than Austin.
Patiently waiting…I need to repair termite damage on my garage among other things. The quotes I received from contractors late 2020 were astronomical.
sold a property I bought in early 2020 shopping for vacant lot if prices depreciate further no : ice cream and/or Chevrolet Tahoe 3.0 at least this year
I buy bottled water, beef, and chicken, and other supplies at Costco and freeze the food in smaller freezer bags. I cook a lot more now (and I cooked quite a lot before inflation). Restaurants are awful now. I can cook and eat a ribeye steak and baked potato for cheaper than a meal a Whataburger. I'm working remotely now, so my fuel costs are lower. Stop paying more money just for convenience.
Ignore the idiots. The helpful few I'd talk to about this (who I would honest-to-god trust with something like this), via private (or group!?) PM, would be: @ima_drummer2k @MadMax @Xerobull @Nook @Dr of Dunk I know there's others, but start there and keep it private and for sure talk to the Wise Ones first. I believe they're called "The Pentaverate".
