i want Hardy and Branham to go in the lotto and push someone good down to us. Do u prefer Jovic or Beauchamp?
Fair points but our combo would still be 19-20 years old, I see no reason why they can’t develop their outside shot and become absolutely dynamic on offense. Combined with a 3rd defensive big and lockdown wing defender(s), the formula could be there for a contender.
Rockets also have Sengun and KPJ. Green is not even a secondary facillitator. At best he is a tertiary facillitator behind KPJ, Sengun and even Tate. Banchero is at same tier as Sengun as a playmaker, maybe a tick below.
Yep I agree with all of that. I believe Paolo’s ability as an initiator is valuable and something Sengun can’t do. At any rate, I’d rather Sengun setting screens for Green. He seems like he could really excel as a screener. I keep forgetting about Tate but maybe that’s because I don’t see him here long term regardless of what the Rockets are putting out there. I also think KPJ is best suited off the bench and if he doesn’t agree to that I’m not really sure he’s the answer at the point. His inability at times to make simple reads simply pisses me off. It’s a tricky situation because he’s super talented and if we trade him we aren’t getting anywhere near his value back in a trade. At any rate he’s a surprisingly good catch and shoot player. If we can have Green and KPJ running off screens it would help them both so much to have a facilitating big, especially one that can be an initiator. This is my whole dilemma with adding two wings with poor playmaking ability. We can’t expect Green to become a great facilitator and I have lost a lot of faith in KPJ ever being that kind of point guard. It’s just hard to image what that offense would look like without forcing players into roles that aren’t best suited to their strengths.
I would argue the only thing Stone and Silas are committed to is finding out the answer to the question “is KPJ our point guard of the future” before he hits restricted free agency. The answer has not been determined as of yet.
So Draymond Green is more important than Klay Thompson or Steph Curry is that what you are saying? Draymond is a role player he doesnt unlock GSW offense wtf. Curry is the guy who unlocks GSW offense ask anybody with a brain they know he is the heart and soul of GSW offense not Draymond Green. If you ask Kerr who is the guy he wants unavailable to play between Curry, Klay, Draymond and Wiggins pretty sure Draymond would be his choice. Of course it is simplistic this is just a forum I dont have nor inclination to make a dissertation on GSW offense with you duh.
Jovic is intriguing and 3 years younger. He's definitely skilled but consistency worries me. He had some games that were downright horrific. If that was because of a particular defense he was facing, that's bad news when he gets to the NBA. Still a lot of talent at 6'10 and he's 18 so I'd probably go with him. Marjon is probably a better fit with this roster and would be someone to at least consider once those other defenders are off the board. I do think his defense could be really good and he at the very least could be a solid finisher in the NBA. He shot horribly in the G league but not too bad when he went to JUCO where he took a billion shots a game. I'd probably go Jovic just for the upside alone but it wouldn't surprise me at all to see Beauchamp with the better career. I'd at least give him a look at #17 if we are looking for a defensive wing. Kendall Brown should be there too.
Curry and Thompson are most effective coming off screens and pin downs. It's like you've never seen the warriors play. Curry without Draymond - 25ppg .46% 39% from 3 Curry with Draymond - 33ppg .49% 43% from 3 The Warriors are effective because of their scheme which heavily involves Draymond's playmaking. He makes Curry average 8ppg higher on a better percentage from the field and a significantly better from 3. Jalen Green is also most effect off screens and pin downs. The fact you would't want to maximize his talent in a similar scheme is puzzling. You after all, brought up the GSW scheme. And since you think Jabari will make us more like the Warriors, how does that particular scheme work with Jabari playing the forward?
Ok so what's GSW results without Klay and Curry vs with Klay and Curry? Dray helps Curry score more...ok? That doesnt mean Dray is the heart of the offense at best he enhances the hesrt of the offense which is Curry. Of the GSW starting 5 Draymond is the least important. Kevon Looney is more important than him in the lineup. I never said we will use GSW scheme I just contested your statement that GSW is known for playmaking over shooting, Dray is the heart of the GSW offense and that playmaking is more important than shooting. 1. GSW is more known for shooting than playmaking. People talk about GSW having generational shooters not generational playmakers. 2. Curry not freaking Draymond Green is the heart of GSW offense. Ask any GSaw fan bro. Ask @wekko368 who is the heart of GSW Curry or Draymond. 3. Shooting>playmaking in general which is why I like Jabari over Banchero. Klay is better than Simmons that tells you all you need to know which is more important. I never said Jabari will make us more like Warriors cuz we dont have Steph on this team. Thats just a strawman argument on your part.
Beauchamp and Jaylin Williams are great options if Tari Eason or Mark Williams are not available at #17.
What do you think of trading down with Spurs for 20 and 25 for 17? Rox could end up with these 2 if they trade down.
Prefer to trade up to ensure we get our target but a trade down makes more sense if no Eason or Mark Williams way before #17.
We have Jalen Green who in order to properly utilize, needs to also come off screens and pin downs. The difference in Curry's numbers with Draymond off and on the floor is staggering. You were talking about how the Warriors value shooting over playmaking yet failed to even mention Draymond's role. Based on those numbers alone, it would seem to me Draymond's playmaking is very important to unlocking their offense and unlocking their best player. We need to build around Jalen Green and the best way to do that is to play to his strengths. If we drafted Jabari, how would he help Jalen offensively outside of spacing the floor? Is Jalen Green going to be slashing and kicking out to shooters? Thats really not his game.... If we drafted Jabari thats great but how are we generating looks for him? KPJ was one of the best catch and shoot 3pt shooters in the entire league this year. Perhaps getting him and Green looks off ball would unlock them much the same way the Warriors unlocked Curry and Thompson. I mean do you want Kevin Porter to be a shot creator when he shot 33% on pull ups or maximize his catch and shoot ability where he shot 48% from catch and shoot 3 this year? I don't believe Porter JR or Green are good enough playmakers to maximize what Jabari can do either so what are we really doing here? I like Jabari just fine as a prospect but he doesn't really solve our issues on offense. We'll go into another year not maximizing the talent and development of our young players and that will continue until they are in a system that plays to and fully utilizes their strengths. If you want a wing defender that shoots 3's thats fine I don't disagree. Those guys are always valuable. People can talk all they want about shooters. Its flashy and effective but the best shooters have someone getting them those looks. I really think you are undervaluing playmaking. Especially in Golden State. The rockets don't have a ton of playmaking. KPJ doesn't seem to be that guy and we are forcing him in a role that doesn't really play to his strengths. Jalen is not that guy. At least very far from it. Sengun is more effective as a screener/roll man and a secondary playmaker. Is Tate going to be a good play initiator? doubtful. Daishen Nix? I just don't see how another year of iso ball helps anyone and that would especially include Jabari who is a play finisher. Even if shooting is more valuable than playmaking to you, at a certain point don't you need a playmaker?
Jaylin Williams is cool but I really like JALEN Williams. That dude is a baller. His efficiency numbers are crazy. Not only was a 40% 3 point shooter but he was extremely efficient in catch and shoot situations. He was ranked 97th percentile in spot up shooting this year. I'm not sure what he ended with but up until April he was shooting 75% at the rim. Thats crazy for a guard and he really knows how to use that 7'2 wingspan to his advantage. He was also able to create his own shot out of midrange pull ups very effectively. He and Jabari Smith had similar fg% in these situations but Smith had way more volume. They wound up with basically the same eFG%. I like his ability to play help defense. He is amazing switched onto point guards. He blocks shots. He does a lot of good things on defense. I really like his playmaking and feel for the game. The way he was playing last year on offense, I see a little bit of early Harden in his game. A 6'6 combo guard with a 7'2 wingspan who plays defense at a high level and is extremely efficient attacking the rim and shooting off ball. He is also very good and creative as a playmaker. Has the ability to create his own shot and has already shown he can hit the occasional step back 3. Whats really the knock on this guy? Santa Clara is still D1 no? How is a guy that averaged 18 4 and 4 on 51% shooting while providing great defense not even in the majority of 1st round mock drafts I've seen? What am I missing?
Below is a sort of combination big board/mock draft that represents the players that I think will be drafted before the Rockets pick at 17. The top 3 are unchanged: Smith, Holmgren, and Banchero #4-10 range: Keegan Murray, Jaden Ivey, Dyson Daniels, Mark Williams, Shaedon Sharpe, Benedict Mathurin, Johnny Davis Notes: the way teams are enamored with Williams's height and Daniels's size/overall potential, I see them both coming off the board very early. Portland, if they hold on to the #7 pick, may have Williams in their sights as a win-now replacement for Nurkic... It is a little hard to predict how teams feel about Sharpe, but I have my doubts he falls out of the top-10. Mathurin and Davis have well-rounded games (including defensive chops) so I've slotted them ahead of a mercurial talent like A.J. Griffin who I'm predicting to fall. His defensive tape is ghastly. Buyer beware. #11-16 range: Tari Eason, A.J. Griffin, Jalen Duren, Ochai Agabaji, Jeremy Sochan, Malaki Branham Notes: Eason may be off the board in the previous group. With Williams off the board, I can't see Charlotte passing twice on Duren... I have Branham and Agabaji in this group because they are proven, well-rounded talents with good size on the wing. They seem like good values for the late lottery. So imagine you are on the clock #17. Who do you add to the Rockets? Ousmane Dieng from the New Zealand Breakers -- no true measurements, listed by his team at 208 cm (6'8 without shoes) Jaylin Williams Arkansas (6' 8.75 without shoes, 7'1 wingspan) Nikola Jovic from Mega Mozzart of the ABA League (6'9.5 without shoes, 7'.025 wingspan) MarJon Beauchamp G-League (6’5.25 without shoes, 7'.075 wingspan) Jalen Williams Santa Clara (6' 4.50 without shoes, 7'2.50 wingspan) Dieng is loaded with offensive ability, having both great size and skill with the ball, but would be a limited contributor for a while since he lacks physicality. He's really a guard (maybe even a PG) without a corner 3 or consistent jumper. Jaylin Williams anchored the Razorback defense all season. He's a steadying influence and a strong rebounder with a limited offensive game. But he's always in the right place, draws charges, contests inside, and does the dirty work to win. Is that what you look for at #17? Jovic is a straight-line driver and dunker at this point. He was listed at 222 lbs (7.4% body fat). That's a sizeable gain since his team website listed him at 92 KG (202 lbs) for the season. He did not participate in the combine athletic testing. I would pass on him. Beauchamp and Williams are known commodities, offering plus defensive skills and better than average size. Either would look great next to Green.
