It takes some real f**king fox news mental gymnastics to think this makes funding police look good. They spent a ton of this towns money on larping gear for these pigs. When it came time to use it, they were all yellow and kids were dying. This is a textbook reason why the current system needs overhaul. We need less cops, but cops who are better trained and qualified, instead of every chump just living out their power fantasy getting a gun and badge.
I get why they didn't. It would have been a historic black eye for law enforcement both in terms of them being exposed as cowards AND if parents got killed in doing so it would have caused an even more catastrophic uproar. Unless you have 100% established there is a hostage situation (including bomb threats), if your ass has a badge and a gun you need to be SPRINTING into that building shouting "STOP! POLICE!" at the top of your lungs. You signed up for this. This was your #1 chief directive. If you exist for any reason at all, it is to protect innocent children from a murderer. And they froze up like a ****ing b****. Not only that, they stopped OTHER heroes from helping. These bastards and p*****s all need to go sit in a jail cell for a bit while some outside regulator rebuilds that department from the ground up. Inexcusable.
https://news.yahoo.com/feds-entered-uvalde-school-kill-230638123.html McCraw said Friday that two students inside the school dialed 911 multiple times during the shooting and begged authorities for help. The calls began at 12:03 p.m. and lasted through most of the hour. At 12:47 p.m., one of the students called a 911 operator and said “please send the police now.” Both students survived, McCraw said.
It's funny that cops are normally super conservative, but the one issue they waver on is 2A. It's hard to find a 10+ year veteran cop who thinks our gun laws aren't totally broken, or that there's nothing wrong with the amount of ambient firearms floating around our country. (Good) cops are like steroids or antibiotics. They can only get you so far. If the patient has a metastasized problem, no amount of "good guys with guns" (eyeroll) is going to fix it.
From my veteran cop buddy. I would testify In court that he has the biggest balls ever and he also has a 10yo so he’s biased. Not exactly helpful but note the last sentence: I don’t watch TV anymore besides cartoons so I don’t really know what happened. The one thing I do know is that there’s no way to know anything accurate this soon and I don’t trust the news either way. That being said if any of it was true they’re pieces of ****. From my friend who works for a PD (which I think we know now isn’t accurate): Well tbh they were told to wait to assault from what I understand and to try an extricate as many civilians as possible. From my understanding once they got a shield they breached took fire and were able to put him down. At least that is what I have heard being talked about.
Information is on the table. Cops had correct armor for rifles. I also read their guidelines. All 16 should be fired and banned from law enforcement. They ****ed up plain and simple. I also read that a teacher witnessed the shooter shooting at people after his wreck and immediately called 911 over a 10 min period. It sounds like she also did not immediately alert the shooter to the rest of the school. Big **** up there.
Yes there are so many things that went wrong from the LEO side and the Uvalde PD needs to be held account. This week is the 2 year anniversary of the killing of George Floyd and as obvious it was that Derek Chauvin had far exceeded his duty so have the Uvalde LEO. At this point I would say trying them for criminal neglect is fitting.
This would be a much needed nutshot: Hits cops in the ego, the last thing cops want is to look bad. Sends a message to all cops: do your ****ing job. Hits the anti-gun-reform faction as well. It keeps mass shootings in the media, which is what is needed.
Undertrained and non-qualified people getting badges has always been an issue. Quality over quantity along with law reform is key here.
Interesting that you say it’s disrespectful as opposed to false. Whether it is disrespectful depends on your perspective and how you choose to receive it. I think it is a hard truth. And yes, I have said that hard truth to right leaning friends. Some of them agree it is a heavy price they pay, and they often decline to say they vote Republican publicly because they know this is what many of our friends and peers think. A few of them prefer to say that yes, Republican voters include people who believe or support those things, but that’s the lunatic fringe far right and not them, Some of them say, yes, this is true and terrible, but it is better than voting Democrat because they feel that strongly that democrat platform is hurting the country and taking it in the wrong direction. Some of the are struggling with whether they can vote R. For whatever it’s worth, most of my friends are lawyers (friends from law school or people I’ve worked with), engineers, doctors (because I hung out with the AP/IB crowd in high school and similarly in college and law school). The vast majority of them are intellectually honest and recognize the hard truth as what it is. I’m curious to hear why you think this is disrespectful. Voting R is voting for a party that either actively supports these things or actually refuses to address them (like school shootings and gun control). I don’t think the factual truth of this statement can be challenged. edit : also, I don’t say hey jerkwad, look at what you support. It is hey, I know you vote R and have historically, but it’s gotta be hard for you because …. And they are intellectually honest and smart people. They don’t duck and cover because it’s the truth.
Look, it is good that we hold the police accountable, but if the shooter could not have gotten a gun, this would not have happened. DD
Maybe to put a finer point on it, if the shooter did not have an AR, the cops wouldn’t have been outgunned and maybe they would have gone in. The cops had an unenviable decision, and as much as I fault them for not doing their jobs, there is a part of me that gets it because maybe you take the oath to protect and serve, but you don’t know until the situation is right there. the root cause is the prevalence of guns and ARs in this country.
Armed subjects are worst for the cops that bully them directly. I'm super conservative and pro law and order. I want to disarm the police because they shoot us and act tough but p***y out when there is a real crisis. If you want a culture change in the police stop issuing them guns. I can tell you first hand cops are the worst shots of anyone at a range.
I am just not into p***y footing around the truth, no pompous ass about it.......let's all deal in reality and truth.......most of our police force in this country are "Meat Heads" - they aren't the cream of societal crops. If you don't like it, then bury your head in the sand and let us adults solve the problem. DD
Many of these shootings would still occur with tightened gun laws. Wife and I were discussing last night that THIS shooting may not have occurred. This ***** would have gone home and kept living online or maybe seen if abuela had a glock in her drawer (which I doubt). Accessibility to guns and the cesspool that is the internet are bigger culprits to these than mental health IMO.
Yeah, it's fine to say they were cowards, etc, but it had to feel like they were sitting in a trench in Gallipoli in 1915. I still fault them if the current picture is accurate.
The same guy who constantly posts the dumbest takes on the basketball forums wants to lecture others about critical thinking. Get over yourself. You constantly demean and demonize groups of people just to support your own beliefs. Cops deal with reality not designing ****ing video games. You know, the industry that often promotes violence to the extent it desensitizes killing people. Yes, like others in any industry, there are cops who are not good at their jobs. Your incredibly biased and extremely stupid characterization of most cops as meatheads flys in the face of your warped view of yourself as an intellectually superior being.
