Astros get: RHP Chris Stratton Pirates get: OF Corey Julks RHP Josh James Stratton is someone I've known about for a while, always been a "peripherals>results" reliever. He could fill the Yimi Garcia rule and make the bullpen deeper. He fits the bill of what the Astros look for. I like what I see on Baseball Savant. Julks gives the Pirates a lottery ticket, just as Bryan De La Cruz did for Miami in the Yimi Garcia trade. James is someone who some teams may still want to take a flier on, perhaps a change of scenery helps.
assuming we don't acquire a star OF (soto, basically), i'd see if we could get mitch haniger on the cheap. mariners have no use for him anymore, and is a definite offensive upgrade over current options, with potential to be a massive upgrade. also think getting anything they can prospect-wise from a pitching-needy fringe playoff team for odorizzi would make a ton of sense. isn't going to be back next season and have more than enough depth once lance comes back.
Yes. Left handed hitter with options remaining who can play multiple positions (all 4 corners plus 2B, and could probably handle CF in a pinch) adequately and has shown pretty high upside with the bat. Projects as a average or above average hitter. I would be willing to trade Siri for that.
I dunno if Haniger is gonna be cheap for the stros to acquire. We don't have an abundance of young talent to trade. Our deepest areas are SP and OF. Maybe Urquidy if the M's throw in another player, but Framber/Javier/Garcia are off-limits in that trade. The M's have plenty of young (even more highly ranked) OF talent in Kyle Lewis, Julio Rodriguez and Jarred Kelenic, so they're not going to want Meyers or McCormick. Gotta expect Brown/Lee/Leon are off limits for a Haniger trade. Toro was a perfect trade piece for them. Odorizzi has a player option for next year. He might be back. Odo's a weird case cuz he's going to need to continue to pitch well to have any trade value and if he does, they may want to keep him for the playoffs.
Lol, both teams say no to those trades every day. Jays: Trading their primary IF backup (who has upside and 3 more years of control) for Jose Siri.... Siri, the guy who was a freely available minor league free agent and isn't definitively better than the Jays' 4th and 5th outfielders (Tapia and Zimmer) much less the 3 OF starters. Padres: A contending team trading a recent 2nd round pick and Profar.... for McCormick, a guy who is playing worse than Profar. (Profar's 1.1 fWAR to Chazzy Fizz's 0.4 fWAR). C'mon man, at least try to be realistic.
yeah he's still a completely speculative/unproven commodity. i have no interest in committing to him as an everyday OF throughout the rest of the season in a championship-contending team that can benefit from an offensive boost. trading for an OF at the deadline is a no-brainer imo. have no other needs. dead spot in lineup at catcher also becomes more palatable if we upgrade here.
i disagree on haniger's price. i think some lesser prospects could get him. dipoto is a trade-happy nutjob. and yeah all the guys you named (besides mccormick) would be off-limits to include.
For me, while not a bad idea to replenish the farm system from. An area of strength 1 shouldn't trade away major league talent for prospects when in contending window 2) if trading for prospects then get prospects and not demoted major leaguers
Odorrizi absolutely will not take his option unless he's not healthy and is expected to miss time in 2023 His buyout is 1/2 his option price up to $6.25 mil based on IP this year He will take the buyout and then get a deal for over $6.25 mil
I remember Hinch putting in a reliever who in 10 postseason appearances through game 5 of the WS had an ERA of zero. I remember a Nationals batter hitting a foul pole HR off of an excellently executed off spead pitch on the outer corner of the zone. I remember stories were written about how unlikely it was to hit a HR off that pitch. I remember reports after the game that said Cole and Hinch and spoken before the game and between them they came to an agreement to only bring him in to start an inning with the opportunity to preserve a lead. Pepperidge Farms remembers.
No, it is not. You have 3 CFs that can do the job (with Meyers). You are not trading for a George Springer (or Soto). Sorry, not going to happen. Mauldy is the catcher for a reason...defense.
I remember them not winning a championship with the best pitcher in MLB sitting on the bench. I also remember Bochy winning multiple championships riding Mad Bum to a ring. You know the philosophy of winning or losing with your best. I understand this is probably a foreign concept to you
Not sure what this means lol. "that can do" what job? occupy a spot in the lineup? it's a clear spot that can be upgraded. that's what trades are for and stuff.
I agree with this. If the Nats tie it up off Cole I can live with that because you put your best player on the mound in a do or die situation. But to have him watching in a game 7 is inexcusable.
Don't want to turn this into another Game 7 thread, but I think Hinch should have learned from Roberts and Morrow in 2017 the dangers of overusing the same reliever in one series. Once a team sees enough of him, they know what to expect and how to attack the pitches. That's how Kendrick was able to homer off of what was very much a pitcher's pitch, and even that one had to be hit PERFECTLY to barely avoid being foul.
