OK assume you lock down schools......then we get massacres at the movie theater, or the mall.....it ain't the SCHOOL - it is the access to GUNS that is the problem.

There are mentally unstable people all over the world and they have schools too - no massacres.......

No use hardening the school when the teachers leave a backdoor propped open.

Healthcare is not a constitutional right. The 2nd amendment, in some form or fashion, covers gun rights. This is not my opinion or reflective of my beliefs. Its a fact. You can keep attacking me as a person, however I did not write the constitution. You are clearly in an emotional tizzy. If you're only concerned about mass shootings, you have little understanding of overall gun violence in america. Hint: One off gun violence dwarfs mass shootings.

If you are unsure of how US Government works to change the constitution, please go take a class as your local community college.

Auto locking doors that function might be a good start.

I pop in from time to time. Still having issues from the head injury a few years ago so it's tough to be on as much. Otherwise, things are getting better.

The whole 2nd amendment talking point is a shield you guys use to try and snuff out this conversation so you don't have to actually discuss the problems at hand. You know damn well the 2nd amendment and even Scalia's majority opinion on Heller (which I have spoken against) clearly defines that you can regulate guns.... we just choose not to because of the 2nd amendment excuse to do nothing, and fear monger that regulation and good common sense legislation is somehow TYRANNY!!! and infringing on "Muh Secund Amendumnt Rytes!!".

If you are using these right wing NRA talking point to try and deflect on behalf of gun nuts then yeah... you deserve to be "attacked" a little bit if that means being challenges and debated. It's one FoxNews/NRA talking point after another for you nowadays.

THEY ARE AUTO LOCKING as I just said.

You have to be able to open from the inside in case of a fire. There are strict rules against opening doors in case for non emergency situation, and kids can get sent to detention and have been in danger of not even being able to graduate at my wife's school because they were caught propping open doors.

So are you advocating for changing the fire marshal code here in Texas?? That would be the only avenue this argument can achieve if you'd want to go that route.

"Hardening" Schools at the elementary level especially is also going to require doing away with outdoor recess. We need to also make sure that's addressed if "Hardening" schools is the answer. Unless you'd want to fund a multi million dollar if not billion dollar state wide bill to build up walls around an outdoor recess space to secure the area.

So is recess now to be done away with??

With Jr. High and High Schools often sports have classroom time during the school day where they are needing to be outside or going between buildings. So we need to seriously discuss either funding for walls, armed security escorts, or doing away with sports during school hours.

You could have recess with armed security supervising, similar to how there are police/security at events that stand by and monitor.

Ridiculous to think about but this trend is getting out of hand

Speaking about autolocking doors, we had this at my high school (Lamar) for the front doors (but not the back doors) they opened from the inside but were locked from the outside during school hours. We also always had an on-duty armed police officer on campus at all times.

Bonus: It might keep kids from cheating at kickball.

Again, not my opinion or my beliefs. Just the facts.

Perhaps you should go back and read the dozens of threads on mass shootings to get my opinions on gun control instead of you giving me my opinion.

This thread is no different than the other dozens of thread. And your a assumption of my opinion is very wrong. It has become very tedious when people like you keep attacking because I dont lock-step with your entire party's belief structure.
