Man, I used to love Bill Simmons. I still like him a little, but in his prime, he was one of the most talented writers ever IMO. Never the best analyst like Zach Lowe, but good enough and waaaay more humorous and creative. Somewhere along the way, that all changed and he might as well be Cowherd. He's clearly just doing this for PR and to keep his vote.
Interesting draft tidbit. Bill asks if brass has asked Jalen what he thinks, he says they have asked about "someone". Proceeds to say there's a clear "Top 3".
Unexpected interview to say the least, but glad to get an off-season update and rookie season reflection from JG For someone who hates the guy Bill definitely wasn't showing it on the podcast Probably sweet talking him so maybe he'll join the Celtics in the future
Good interview. I don’t think Bill ever hated Jalen Green. Sure the actual words were harsh but he kind of said it in a joking manner when they were all laughing and he probably said it for shock value amongst friends. I think the media blew it out of proportion and Rockets/Jalen green fans took way more offense to it than they should have. JG definitely brushed it off like NBD and you can tell Simmons is very sincere in being complimentary of him.
Those media guys just circle jerk all the time, whether it is overhyping some player or discredit some player. It's all going to be a pile of nothing in the end. Nihilism.
This is definitely what happened. I had listened to the pod in full before I saw the babies on Twitter chop out 5 seconds of it and throw a hissy fit. It was all clearly done in jest, and even in that original pod he went on to say tons of positive stuff about Jalen. But, it is easier to act like a punk and get angry on the internet, so that's what people did.
Jalen sounds like he's grown about an inch and put on 15 pounds of lean muscle mass -- amazing interview by Bill he's still the best in the business.
Celtics currently have one of the better roster construction out there. It's not only blueprint, but a pretty good one. That said not a huge fan of Simmons. Man is also using Jalen for content and some podcast ratings. ...still an interesting listen.
"Lean muscle" is that new catchphrase that all the players are using now. I'm just so thankful they got away from that fat muscle.
Bill Simmons is still a douchebag. He's just doing damage control. Jalen doing his best pro player persona. Dont hold a grudge and brush those haters off your shoulders. I like it. Shows maturity. His ball comments were exciting. He's the most electric player from that draft and talking about working on specific skill sets is great to hear. Self awareness and that desire to be better. What more could you ask for from your face of the franchise superstar? This story is going to be awesome to see play out over the next decade.
