I hope he will improve his passing, so he can come off the bench to replace KPJ when needed. He showed decent passing ability in the summer league.
Here is Sam Vecenie discussing this very topic. If you're in the Rockets position, you always draft BPA and worry about fit later. Of course there's no guarantee that Paolo will be better than Sengun just like there was no guarantee Green was going to be better than KPJ. But it didn't really matter in the long run because this team is absolutely devoid of talent. Banchero would immediately be the second most talented player on the roster. If we're keeping it 100, Banchero is the most talented player in this draft class along with Ivey. Chet is being taken high for potential and Jabari Smith could be "better Klay Thompson" which is amazing but not if you don't have a Steph Curry already. Banchero's upside is bigger Carmelo with passing. If Banchero plays Wood's role, he will (probably) produce Wood's stats his rookie year.
I agree. I personally believe he's a 3 who can play the 4 also. Offensively, he and Keegan Murray are the best. Paolo is one of the few Duke players I feel great about on the next level. I knew Grant Hill and Brand were going to be excellent players. Tatum surprised me some, but he had those qualities. Banchero is more skilled than what Tatum was at this stage.
The player whose stock could fall between now and the draft is Holmgren. His frame is frail and he didn't perform well against the best teams/top competition. It's possible that teams don't think he'll translate well to the pros, and as a thinner big man, the possibility of injuries has to be in the back of their minds. For people here who want Chet, that's a good thing, because I could easily see Banchero going to OKC. And if FO's are truly leery of the risks that Chet poses, there's always the possibility that we don't draft him even if he drops to #3.
I mean...they should probably. But according to most, they'd rather Chet's upside or Jabari's 3 and D over Paolo's overall game. No one knows until the Magic actually pick. I feel like the Magic could end up taking Paolo because it's what they should do. He's exactly what their team needs offensively and they have defenders to cover up his weaknesses. I'm prepared for the Rockets to take him because of what most "insiders" claim to know about who the Magic and Thunder prefer.
I want Paolo's passing and scoring. I want Jabari's 3pt shot and Defense. I want Chets length, scoring and paint defense. I don't know which one I want more.
Or the lack of ability to shoot the ball. I like Tate as a bench player giving about 15 mins a game on a championship team. As a starter playing 30 mins a game not so much.
Jeremy Woo suggests Banchero might go #2 I also think teams have concern with Chets frame....may drop a notch or two
Banchero's skillset + size is intriguing enough to go #1 too. Magic do not have a All Star level scorer.
I mean compared to Melo. I think it is likely Banchero tops out as a better passer/rebounder/defender than Melo.
Yes, after the lottery I had Banchero going #1 to Orlando to play either the 4/5 with the thought Bamba as RFA might be leaving soon. And they need more playmaking from their front court. Fultz/Cole Anthony/Suggs working it from the back court and Banchero working it from the front court. Wagner doing his thing as a wing. I'm just going to sit back from this point on until the draft to enjoy what the Rockets do. We do have options.
There a tons of jouneyman/ lesser players who are better passer/rebounder/ defenders than Melo. Melo is elite at scoring. Banchero has upside to be elite at playmaking and/or scoring. Not there yet. He's just not as gifted a scorer as Melo at same age.
