It’s so wild that some homers are claiming draft lottery conspiracy against Rockets after we got the 2nd and 3rd pick in the draft lol. It’s not like we got 5th two years in a row (most likely individual selection to end at each time)
The one thing that Paolo over other failed tweeners is that he's 6'10 Other failed Tweeners like Derrick Williams, Jeff Green (nice player, still a disappointment considering his draft position), Beasley were a little shorter than that. Him being 6'10 means he's going to be able to just shoot over many dudes and he does know how to use his weight and size a bit like Luka does. I mean he looks like he's going to come in to the NBA and score easily... I'm completely 100% fine picking him at 3 if the other two are gone. I think he has high potential.
Feel like over time Jabari will drop. Thunder and Magic need offensive talent that can create and neither Jabari nor Chet fit that bill. Chet is too tantalizing to pass up but one of those two teams will convince themselves (correctly) that Banchero is more suited for them than Smith.
Here's all i really care about... Give me Porter, Green, and Sengun next year. Trade whoever you need to to get Jabari Smith and either Sochen or Mark Williams in the draft. Then use the mid level on someone who can start for some teams...
Did they like us when they screwed us over in game 7 against GS? Prominent NBA media guy Bill Simmons just said “fck Jalen Green” like 2 weeks ago…hopefully he doesn’t get screwed out of All-Rookie 1st Team the Rockets are never liked…we are either irrelevant or disliked we have had the worst record B2B and have yet to get the #1 overall pick…the way people talk, next year’s draft is basically irrelevant outside of 1 guy, so if you’re hoping that the NBA will decide that the Rockets need the #1 pick, then ok…I know better at this point
Not sure he’s scoring easily is the issue, he wasn’t very efficient in college. He has talent, the handle, vision and footwork is there. But there’s still a lot of projection in actual ability
(Not directed at you Jay but you mentioned/brought up a great point…) Seeing all the Paolo slander (Slander-o Banchero szn on CF/Rockets twitter ) I guess this is the easy answer (more tape) but… How did it go from “Tank for Paolo!” to now “No, I don’t want him. I wouldn’t even take him with the 5th/17th pick. Do.not.want.” *5th before they found out their actual draft position *Obviously some hyperbole on the 17th pick part “Tank for Paolo!” “There’s this guy named Paolo Banchero in the 2022 draft...” … Had a good season, pretty good tournament run. And now we’re out? “Terrible fit. Defense gonna give up 130. Not good with Sengun.” So…we’re now building or making decisions around Sengun? I know everyone loves him but… Sengun >>>> Banchero?? Maybe/what if Sengun is the odd man out? Sure, I’d probably take Chet/Jabari ahead of him too but explain the Banchero hate to me like I’m 5.
Don’t think anyone hates Banchero. I just don’t see his strengths translating to many teams. He’s not talented enough to be the “guy” and not a strong enough shooter or defender to play off ball. Maybe he develops into a great Robin, we will see.
God no trading back. Not in this draft . Talking about moving up from #17 as you mentioned, with Wood and/or Gordon and Tate.
My main worry is that he's not fast enough to get past bigs, especially in an NBA where more teams are having their bigs able to get out on the perimeter and move laterally and switch... But, sometimes dudes that don't seem too fast still have no issues getting past people (see Luka) so really it's just something we have to see if he can do it...if we draft him. I do think there is a good chance Orl-OKC pick him before we do.
Not understanding the Paolo hate. Dude has tremendous handle, footwork, and playmaking and he’s 6’10’’ 250. Can create his own shot with ease and unlike Wood can set a screen and isn’t a black hole. He has a very unique skill set and is extremely polished. He has the length and quickness to guard the perimeter and the sand in the pants to guard the post. He’s not a Zion type athlete and he needs to continue to work on his 3 but his skill set is very rare. Green and Banchero on the pnr would be deadly.
We can only lose if we don't trade Wall and a late 1st for Harden. Then figure out how to S&T wood for Jalen Brunson & Tim Hardaway Jr. Jalen Brunson Jalen Green Jaden Ivey. Jaden Hardy. James Harden. Tim Hardaway Jr. Kevin Porter Jr. Kenyon Martin Jr.
I'll happily take him at 3! But yeah, everyone hyped this man up for years so we shouldn't be too down on him. Sure he has some bust potential but all these guys do. I think we all need to warm up to him because he is the guy I'd bet on us having.
Yeah, it’s a wait and see. I can see him being able to do those things that Tatum and Luka do. But that’s absolutely wishful thinking because that’s rare. Right now it doesn’t look like he will be elite at any one specific thing
