Click sucks. First he signs Goodrum. Goodrum sucks. Then he makes this nothingburger trade to replace Goodrum. Luhnow would have dealt for a young star. Did I do that right Clickbashers?
Click's actions speak for themselves. He screws up, but atleast he trades prospects to fix his screwups.
If Meyers is about to go on a rehab and moving him to the 60 day DL isn't an option, they will indeed need a 40 man spot I would guess they are more likely to Release James and option Badrum, since his defensive versatility is something they like. Plus, if they are going to end up putting Altuve or Pena or Diaz on the IL, they will likely be adding Dubon to the active roster along with keeping Badrum, so it would have to be someone else off of the 40 man
A 26 year old minor league catcher with a career .686 OPS (.602 this season) is a prospect? He is probably at least 4th on their minor league catching depth chart.
Not sure about that. Meyers isn't going to play 2 games in the minors and come back. He will have an extended rehab in the minors sort of like his own mini spring training. June 6th would be when he could come back if he went on the 60 day. That's only 23 days away. A rehab assignment can be 20 days for non-pitchers. So it is possible. If it was my choice...I'd probably just cut Josh James but 60 day IL for Meyers isn't totally far-fetched.
dude, did any of us know that papierski existed before this trade (other than @Snake Diggit). Prospects LOL
Hence the word If But yea, James looked like the real deal at one point, hard to see him being successful in the big leagues now though
James is back up to averaging 96 on his fastball and I could see him being a productive middle reliever in the majors. Maybe a trade candidate as part of a package for one or two younger lotto prospects?
Yes, But I dont want to hear about the farm system being thinned out. There's a reason that it's been thinned out. BTW, I like this trade. It was badly needed.
Just because he will have a long MLB career doesn’t make him a major prospect that we should be pointing to as a “thinning of the farm system”. Lots of guys carve out looooonnnnngg careers as backup catchers and while they are very valuable in certain situations, generally they are a dime a dozen. This type of trade is evidence that the farm is deep, not thin. There are at least 2 catching prospects in Houston’s system that are easily more valuable than Papierski (Lee and Diaz). There are several others who likely rank lower than Papierski but who are very close to him in value (again, because the system is deep, especially at catcher). I’m not sure I would swap Berryhill, Palma, or Santander for Papierski. And Nerio, Salazar, and Correa are no more than 1 tier below Papierski in value.
Plus the Astros just signed another catcher, Carlos Cauro, who is from one of the academies in the Dominican.
I was only responding to your point that this trade is evidence that Click is a shitty GM “thinning out the farm system” to make up for his mistakes.
I never said this. What said is his track record is of signing the Baez/Badrum's of the world in FA and I complimented him for admitting his mistakes and corrected them. I even said I liked the trade.
