I love Marvel movies...but The Avengers (first one) is really boring. I remember really liking it when it first came out...but now, it's like a slow trudge uphill to a colonoscopy. All of the lines I thought were cool and catchy are now over-the-top cheese. I really like Gladiator...except the scene towards the end after Crowe is killed and they're asking who will take him...and the kid is the first one to step up to help. That...would...never...happen. It's so cheesy and staged that it makes me hate the entire movie. Just ruins it for me.
Recently the Oscar winners for Best Picture are overrated imo: 2021: Nomadland. Great direction and cinematography but the story was bland. 2020: Parasite. I understand the plot perfectly fine but it's not some transcendent film. 2018: Shape of the Water. This was an average movie at best and I'd say it's not even del Toro's best work.
Haven't aged well more than overrated -- I recently watched Tombstone again and was thinking of all the cool scenes with Doc and forgot about the corny love story and just the over the top hero worship of the Earps who were really just gangster guns for hire.
Every Tarantino movie after Pulp Fiction. I loved PF, but it seems like he struck gold with it and now tries too hard to recreate it. All style, no substance. Just my flea bitten opinion. Agree about Clockwork Orange. I had heard so much about this one and when I finally saw it....complete garbage. All Fast and Furious movies. Do people watch these movies before or after UFC fights?
The thing that gets me about that movie is the crappy pancake makeup they use to make them look like they've been out in the sun, which they don't extend below the middle of the neck. Kills my ability to suspend disbelief.
A lot of the movies in the 90's (and 2000) didn't age well due to the fact that we require more historical accuracy these days than we did back then. Back when Forrest Gump, Gladiator, The Patriot, and Braveheart came out, everyone was more interested in the spectacle and they payed no attention whatsoever to the historical accuracy of the films. Since then, we've focused MUCH more attention to historical accuracy in films (though we still don't always get it 100% correct). That's why with today's eyes, we view these historical abominations differently.
I remember watching it a while back when I had a TCM phase and remember being very underwhelmed. Which makes me think of another thread that could be interesting.
Who hates it? Never wanted to rewatch The Usual Suspects and I still think Fight Club was ahead of its time and still topical, it explains a lot of what is going on today. edge lords are still thriving today.
Dude, complaining about Tombstone is like complaining about the original (I hate that I have to type that) Point Break. Take it for what it is and enjoy it. But yes, the idiotic romance angle and your good friend Billy Zane are worthless.
I am a co teacher, and it's a 1th grade American history class so the teacher of record made that call, and students have to answer historical questions. Not something I would do, but not a bad way to introduce kids to that part of American history, sparks some discussion and calls back some things that have been previously taught. Not a great look that Hanks got an Oscar for that performance, but that's what was honored back then. Don't know how she has it, but it's not a movie for middle school at all.
I was going to say pretty much all of the comic book movies. But then I realized that most of those movie’s aren’t rated very high in the first place. However, I did like Darkman.
Not offensive at all to me, and I don't think he went full r****d, just kind of one note. Now, this is offensive.
