Yes, but I'm pretty sure he now gets to officially say you were an MLB player. I think it qualifies him for certain benefits, etc. and all the additional perks of being official rookie that would not apply to players who are on the roster but never make it on the field.
It's not based on game appearances but days on the active roster. 1 day gets you lifetime healthcare. 43 days (1/4 of a full baseball year, which is 173 days) gets you the minimum pension starting at age 50(?). 10 years gets you the maximum pension: The plan pays fully vested members a minimum of nearly $68,000 a year for those who start drawing at 45, with a sliding scale that goes up to $220,000 for beneficiaries who wait until age 62. The payout is even more meaningful for coaches, managers and trainers, who are also eligible and have lower salaries.
Just announced on 790, Bryan Abreu gets the resumption. Never got more than 5 outs in a game this year. It appears they are treating the suspended game as a BP game which should keep the six pitcher rotation intact. The Bullpen actually needs some work after the off day, Verlander's 8 innings and the rain suspension.
I'm not happy. It probably won't have a big impact on the first game's results. It probably won't be a big deal at all. Though, the Astros are choosing to tempt fate that nothing else goes wrong in the next day or two regarding the pen. Granted, if Baker pulls Valdez out of his hat to finish off the second game, I will be very pleasantly surprised as this is extremely unlikely.
I'm with you, but this is what I expected. No idea if Framber's between start routine (bullpen day, etc) factored into this, or just the desire to keep all the starters on their same schedule.
Have a starter on normal or extra day of rest pitch 5-6 innings in 1st game. Have a starter on normal or extra day of rest pitch 5-6 innings in 2nd game. Let other starters pitch on normal rest instead of extra rest one turn through the rotation until going back to everyone getting an extra day of rest in the 6-man rotation. I was probably 60% expecting the 6 innings of bullpen, but was hoping after the Astros using Javier smartly last week.
5/12 BP availability: Maton - 1 IP on 5/6 - 5 days rest Montero - 1 IP on 5/6 - 5 days rest Stanek - 1 IP on 5/7- 4 days rest Abreu - 1 IP on 5/7 - 4 days rest Pressly - 1 IP on 5/7 - 4 days rest Neris - 1 IP on 5/8 - 3 days rest Taylor - 1 IP on 5/10 - 1 day rest Game 2 Martinez
Valdez pitches Friday on the current schedule. Valdez 5/13 Odorizzi 5/14 Javier 5/14 I think the 5 pitcher rotation doesn't start yet. 5/27 looks optimal to begin with Verlander the first start on four days rest.
I'm a little surprised it is that long since Montero has pitched. I would expect Neris, Montero, and Pressly to pitch in the 2nd game.
Between Javier covering 3 IP after Odorizzi's 5, Verlanders 8 and the off day, there hasn't been much work for the BP lately.
