Was that tweet supposed to be a reason for why we should draft Paolo? Lol, Chet or Jabari not making the defense competent overnight isn’t some convincing argument in Paolo’s favor. Is that some new age “well we suck on defense anyways, so might as well go all in on offense and try to score 120 every night” argument?
Nope .. its because I've watched enough of Chet Holmgren hacking in big games to draw a conclusion without even using Mobley as a barometer. I've also seen Paolo Banchero able to stay in games and make an impact without being a target of offenses. How does it go "your best ability is availability". Im not using a stats only approach to these prospects. Especially with low volume 3rd option guys on their college teams. Smoke and mirrors.
Just one more week till we see how those lotto balls fall. I’ll also be eager to see where potential trade partners like Portland land. If they get a top pick it’s hard to see them trading it but if they pick at 6 they could be a prime candidate for a trade on draft night.
Thats fair! I dont see either Chet or Victor as fluid as Mobley myself. Not sure how Chet can be "more dynamic" on offense when he isnt using the dribble the same way Victor is. Where is the tape that shows Chet Holmgren using a dribble package to beat his man in the half court? Would love to see it. Been looking for it actually. "Most of his highlights are blocks and put backs" ???? Yeahhh you lost me. We are not watching the same player(s) apparently, but yes you are definitely entitled to support who you want. No skin off my back!
What? How is this thin or attacking? Its a huge red flag for a guy to have that poor of a percentage at the rim, especially being 6'8+. that's not thin at all, especially when you add in his non dribble ability. Come on D-Rock you are smarter than this.
Sir Charles about to piss some people off!! LOL https://www.montgomeryadvertiser.co...raft-stock-no-1-auburn-basketball/9732026002/
hilarious. but i'm okay with being on the opposite side of @Clutch . No offense to the big homie but he aint have the best track record as far as talent evaluation is concerned.
I think that little hitch at the top of the shot throws some people off. Seems to me he's found a repeatable shot using his strength and arm length to be more consistent. Paolo's catch and shoot numbers are pretty good, but he needed to drive the offense he was on and didnt have the luxury of camping out at the 3 waiting for guards to find him open. No doubt his shooting numbers would look more sexy if his role was similar to Chet or Jabari.
What questions about his height? There have been questions about length before he went to Duke and that was projecting him as a 5 which makes no sense, Banchero has more of Dirks game than Chet and it crazy that you are questioning Banchero when Dirk was a negative on defense and makes Banchero look like Kawhi comparatively. I don't agree with swinging for the fences on a hope and a prayer that somebody can potentially be like somebody else I need to have seen it, that how you get stuck in lottery hell like the Magic and Kings. I am not calling you out I just don't understand why people nit pick Banchero but compare the other guys to HOF guys. How do not see the physical upside with Banchero yet see it with Holmgren? The one biggest misnomer about Banchero is that he is nonathletic and just has overpowered everybody. I really don't understand why everybody thinks that 19-year-old Banchero is tapped out potentially.
Thing is Charles said that they're all worthy of the #1 pick but the focus will be that he needs to put on weight which both can be true. Saying he needs to put on weight isn't saying he'll never make it in the league
Yeah as I said later on in the next post, if you are in that Marcus Morris type of physical blueprint, you need to be incredibly skilled and talented to the point where you are potentially unguardable. I think of Luka or Harden in terms of just otherworldly IQ and creativity offensively. Even then because of their physicality these guys still don't get drafted #1 typically because how heavily weighted the physical upside is rated.
Your take is too sensible. Need to inject some controversy to keep up with the nuance in the conversation! (I agree with you just having some fun). Plus its not the 90s anymore either. Guys dont need to be part time MMA guys to make a living inside the arc.
Look if we are lucky enough to get the #1 pick being this level of nit picky is a good problem to have. If the Rockets end up at 4 or 5, and are able to be Paolo I think EVERYONE here is going to be thrilled, and will look at him as a great fit with Jalen Green for years. The guy is going to be really good. I feel great about that prediction. It's just a matter of coming up with who should go #1 out of this top 4 in this draft.
What has Holmgren shown that makes you think he is unguardable? Its crazy that nobody else has really questioned his height but you seem to have cracked the code. What does Chet do that's translatable as elite on the NBA level that would warrant the #1 pick. IMO It's actually not hard at all I can question a lot about him like you are doing with Banchero. Who said he wants to be comped with Durant, Bam AD? all of those guys are different from each other. So you are not even trying to make sense anymore? Are you really trying to comp a 6'6 guy with a 6'10 guy.
To be clear I think Chet is probably the biggest risk in the top 6 or 7 players in this draft. Not just top pick. I just recently (like this morning so take my take with a grain of salt) have come to this place where I think the upside is so high that if you are lucky enough to land the #1 pick, you gotta go for broke instead of playing it safe. Wake me up tomorrow and I might change my mind though back to Jabari who honestly when you look at his production, doesn't stand out in comparison to Paolo at all. So really the emphasis on Jabari over Paolo is just the visual analysis from YouTube clips on his athleticism... which we'll need the official combine measurements to confirm anyways. So as I said a few minutes ago, I think it can go either way with all 3 guys, and Ivy belongs in the conversation for the 2nd or 3rd pick too. Where as Rockets fans the concern would set in is if we are at 5, and all 4 guys are off the board, and it looks like Sharp is the pick. I like him, but I think there's a drop from 4 to 5 big time.
Marcus Morris type physical blueprint? What have you been watching and Banchero is incredibly skilled and POTENTIALLY unguardable at least he is more skilled than anybody else in the top 5 outside of maybe Ivey. It's like you have not really seen Banchero actually play.
