    There were fewer bottom-feeder teams in the eastern conference. In the western conference, there were 7 teams that won fewer than 40 games (5 in the east). The more bottom feeder teams there are in a conference, the easier it is to get a better record.

    Also, the Atlantic Division had four playoff teams (Boston, Toronto, Philly, and Brooklyn)

    It's much ado about nothing. People are going to cite the W/L records of teams within a conference as a means to justify how the EC > WC, but just because there's more parity within a conference, doesn't mean that conference is better than the other conference.

    It just means the gap between Miami and Detroit is smaller than the gap between Phoenix and Houston. Parity should be used to compare strengths within a conference, not between conferences.
