Whew, finally got through this thread! Really some interesting takes and debate--thanks CF!

With that said, I think I'll be happy if we get one of the big three. Chet, Jabari and Paolo each bring unique traits/skills to our team, but the key for me is we need talent with size and everyone of them bring that (6'10" to 7'0"). A good coach will be able to incorporate any of those guys into our team/system.

Personally, I like Chet's fit best, because we need defense and he would bring elite rim protection and could easily slot as our 2nd-4th scoring option. I also think his season with Timme would translate well with Sengun. Jabari is such an elite shooter and decent defender, that he would help spread the floor and could be a perfect fit with Green, Porter and Sengun. Paolo has a pretty well-rounded offensive repertoire and I'm not as worried about his 3-pt shooting as others. His defensive upside is the lowest of the 3, but don't believe he could be as bad as Wood.

As for pick #17, I love that Eason seems to be dropping. He's got the size/length, defensive aggressiveness and offensive potential that would be awesome to add to our team. However, I look at Dieng and salivate at that potential. If he makes it to 17, and the choice is between him and Eason that would be tough, but I'd probably want us to swing for the fences and take Dieng.

Bottom line is that with Sharpe joining the draft and Dieng's apparent accession we'll likely get someone we like at 17. If not, I'd love to trade up using that pick and any of Wood, Gordon or Tate. Needless to say May 17th is a huge day for this franchise and this will be a fun draft for us.

CF: every 7 footer in the playoffs has been a liability. Gobert is unplayable, Adams is unplayable.

    CF: let's draft Chet.

    Orlando Reddit fan poll (link)

    95 paolo
    240 jabari
    138 chet

    :D
    ---
    As far as position,

    Jabari at 3, backup 4
Chet/Paolo at 4, backup 5. Have Sengun at the 5.

Golbert and Adams are thicker body types more Paolo like. Out of these 3, if anyone is hunted on defense in a hypothetical playoffs it's likely Paolo.

Not to argue Paolo has strengths, but even those for Paolo, do you think his defense is better than Jabari or Chet?

If 3rd best, wouldn't he be hunted more than the other two.

Every big defender (whether 6'10 or 7'0) that CANNOT SWITCH has been a liability in the playoffs.

Thank you for hammering home that point.

    Banchero is a switch liability.

I'll maintain that among Jabari, Chet and Paolo, the first two are better in switches. Now if people say Paolo is maybe neutral (not a negative) on switch.... this is possible. But if this is a true, then why put Chet in the category of a Steven Adams.

Yes centers are hunted. But as we've seen wings are hunted (ie Robert Covington), and in the playoffs the guards are hunted as well (Trae,Luka,Donovan,Herro,Seth Curry). So whether Jabari/Chet/Paolo is a 3/4/ or 5, if they are bad on defense they'll be hunted irregardless of position.

Feels weird to me when people put a guy down, but their own pick is maybe relatively worse in that category.

Tall bigs are doing just fine these playoffs. Embiid is 7ft, Brook Lopez as well, Ayton is 6'11, and Jokic last year's MVP is 7ft.

Once we find out our draft position I may advocate for players more, but Chet has the highest combined two-way impact potential in the draft IMO. The question is will he fulfill it, but his ceiling is there.

Can be locked down by smaller physical defenders.

Jayden Gardner is listed as 6'6 so could be 6'5 or 6'4 in reality.

Banchero still has defensive concerns per Schmitz and Givony.

    https://www.sportskeeda.com/basketball/paolo-banchero-s-view-nba-scouts

"But for the teams that were already concerned about Banchero's defensive impact – preferring the two-way play of Jabari Smith and Chet Holmgren – Saturday's heartbreaking loss to UNC likely didn't help change their mind," Schmitz wrote.

'16 Duke actually averaged only 0.6 more 3pt attempts per game (~22.2) compared to ~21 attempts for this year's team.

Duke has consistently shot ~20-22 threes going back to the mid 90s. The one outlier I saw was the Jay Williams '00 Duke team at ~27.

The college game is just different.
Yea idk Banchero and Tatum were both streaky in college. Tatum was hot in the middle of the season then cold in the end and tourney play.

Banchero was flipped cold mid season and hot end of season.

Regardless there are so many bigs who turned into great shooters. Frye, Lopez, Grant Williams shot like 41% this year.

Who would have guessed Towns coming out of UK would win a 3pt comp?

Sure Giannis is a freak so we can throw him out.

Brook & Bobby are doing just fine. What the Bucks are showing is that you can play great defense even with slow footed bigs.

    Accountability, communication and effort.

Chet is superior offensively and defensively to both of those guys. And if you think that Chet getting dragged into space and getting cooked will be an issue then you really don't want to see what would happen to Banchero.
