I would say "welcome to any moral based system based on religious text from thousands of years ago". Drop the current crop of conservative American Christians in region with limited resources and is war torn, see them impose their will in a far more aggressive and violent manner over time. Materialism and satisfying your hierarchy of needs can often quell the most toxic elements of old religious fundamentalism. You won't care as much about imposing your religious doctrine in a violent manner if you have nice home in a suburban community in a stable nation.
I hate the Taliban as much as the Christian Taliban. Don't think for a second the nutjob evangelicals wouldn't mandate similar stupid ass **** if they were in power. Footloose was based on a true story about a real town from the late 70's.
No they aren't. But they are rapidly developing nations that in the grand scale of human civ history just recently formed a stable government post colonial rule versus stable western countries that have their stability and have been industrialized to create excess for multiple centuries now.
False equivalency. Not saying the evangelicals aren't nutjobs, but there is still a MASSIVE difference. The evangelicals are less crazy than what is regarded as "moderate" Islam being practiced.
I hope that you will be proven right. But I think that blaming everything on economic factors is a cop-out. And you of all people actually know that. Just taking the example of the "evangelical nutjobs" as an example from outside Islam - they have the same economic conditions as everyone else. Economic conditions play a role, but the underlying driver is the ideology.

I don't hate Muslims. Please don't adopt and spread this false narrative. My issue is with the ideology of Islam. That's not the same thing. Do you, @rockbox "hate evangelicals"? Or is your issue with the ideology they follow? One big difference is that there are very few, if any countries where "crazy evangelicals" are in power and are forcing the entire population to follow their crazy rules. With Islam, there are many. And even in "free" countries where the followers of the ideology of Islam have no economic hardship, the oppression of women, treatment of gays, apostates and hate against Jews continues.
Hate is a strong word, but I strongly dislike evangelicals. and wish they didn't exist. To further qualify, I strongly dislike anything based on the stories in the old testament.
