So weird seeing y'all hate on it. I binged the first four, loved them, convinced my wife to give it a try, and we both binged the first five. We're both loving it. Oscar is doing an amazing job.
This series is a mash up of the themes and tone of Shutter Island, Fight Club, and the Mummy. I think it’s an odd fit for Marvel but I really am enjoying it. Even though most comic movie fans will probably not like it because it has little flashy action scenes. I think the writers realized when they scored Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawks they threw the typical get to the action formula out the window and instead gave the two leads space to spread their wings and then loaded this show with themes, and nesting dolls. Shutter Island is one of my fav movies ever and think it’s highly underrated. Especially for Scorsese. This is a very very similar story just in a different setting. My fear is the Marvel folks will force too much in the season finale tomorrow because the flaw with these D+ shows is the writers write these shows knowing it’s unlikely they get a second season for years if they even get one at all. Normally a second season would be 10 months out at the most so there wouldn’t be so much pressure to throw the book at 48 minutes. Marvel needs to get to a point where it’s not such a big issue to have Marvel and Star Wars content on top of each other. Because waiting three years for Loki 2 and Moon Knight 2 is going to be a huge issue. 6 episodes only to tell this story at this scale is going to be frustrating to say the least.
Always ruining it for me. You’re the reason I haven’t watched Iron Man, Thor, Black Panther, GoG, Captain America and Ted Danson films. Why bother if they’re all dead?
Talk about super underwhelming. I'd say that was on last-season-of-GoT levels of bad. Just like my analogy last week, this definitely was the 2006/2007 Cavaliers. Isaac/LeBron carried them all the way to the Finals but ultimately got wiped off the floor by bad CGI/plot holes/bad acting/Spurs.
Just finished. Not a terrible show, definitely way outside the casual MCU fan comfort zone. Oscar Isaac has won me over- he’s a great actor. Action in episode six was finally what I was expecting. They could have done more with the Egyptian gods and their avatars. After credits scene wraps up the show nicely.
Production and set was above avg, but is it spoiled to want more? Spoiler How can they pull out a third character at the very end when it took two hearts to balance the scale? Are we lead to believe that the cab drivers third heart is perfectly balanced? Sure, whatevs. I liked the stone cold cabby more than the archaeologist even though the last episode had Steven nut up a bit. Mr. Robot soured me on the overpowered savant but tragically mental trope. If they have a second season, I'd rather see all three of the play together than another mental-mind-****-that-serves-as-filler arc. That last episode really felt like a teaser more than a solid ending. Pacing shouldn't be an issue with six episodes...
Spoiler Perhaps Jake is heartless in a metaphorical sense? After all, he's the guy that's been handling the dirty work for Khonshu. This is me stretching the plot reaaaaallly thin I was disappointed that it took them this long to introduce Jake as he's one of the main alters in the comic for Marc. I would have much rather see a Marc/Jake dynamic than a Marc/Steven duo but I understand why they went that route as it gives the Moon Knight character a wider spectrum to develop / play with
Isaac's only disappointed me when he's been egregiously let down by the script, like in X-Men Age of Apocalypse or Rise of Skywalker.
Isaac was great for the entire run but the plot and show itself left me scratching my head. I didn't have any knowledge of the character going in, so I can't speak to how close it hews to the source material. I found it enjoyable but that finale was rather underwhelming especially since it's planned as a one off from what I understand. I assume this is all set up for a big appearance in some future Marvel project......
Technically Spoiler Jake was in the series from the beginning, he was the blackout they couldn't remember doing the ultra-violent killing. I can see him not having a 'heart' as you said. Did you watch the after credits scene?
There was a 'typo' from the Marvel twitter when they were hyping the 'Series' finale. They originally said 'Season' but quickly deleted it and re-tweeted with 'Series'. So there's a fan theory that there could be a season two, I'm guessing if the ratings were good enough.
Hadn't seen that info but just read it..... “Moon Knight” Team Talk Second Season With the exception of “Loki,” which revealed it had been renewed at the end of the show’s first season, the various Marvel Studios series for the Disney+ service have been ‘one-and-done’. Where they go from here isn’t clear but “WandaVision” kind of gets its sequel with the new “Doctor Strange” movie picking up threads and elements directly from that show. The upcoming “Ms. Marvel” series will also likely tie into the subsequent “The Marvels” film. But what is happening with the just finished airing “Moon Knight” series isn’t clear. By all accounts, it appeared the series was designed as a one-off, and certainly Oscar Isaac gave indications in interviews there are no plans for anything further unless there was serious interest. Then earlier this week, Marvel sent a tweet in which they originally said “experience the epic series finale” of “Moon Knight” before subsequently editing it to read “epic season finale”. Further tweets have specifically used the word season finale as well. This quickly led to speculation an announcement about a renewal was coming, though one didn’t appear in the finale. Now, Deadline has spoken with the ‘season finale’ episode director and executive producer Mohamed Diab and asked whether he’ll be back for more work on a second season. He says: “We don’t know if there’s a next season. Marvel doesn’t go with a conventional way, so even if they like the character and want to extend the world, it could be season 2, it could be a standalone film, or he can join another superhero’s journey. I’m kept in the dark, just like the fans. We never discussed it being a season 2, but one day there’s going to be an expansion, but I don’t know how it’s going to look like.” Fellow executive producer Grant Curtis echoes the uncertainty of the show scoring a new season: “Where Moon Knight lands in MCU after this, I actually don’t know. As a fan, I want to know.” The talk comes as Head writer and executive producer Jeremey Slater revealed to the House of R podcast that “Hawkeye” character Maya Lopez/Echo was to serve as a love interest before the team ultimately settled on the new character Layla El-Faouly based on the comics character Marlene Alraune. The full first season of “Moon Knight” is on Disney+ now. https://www.darkhorizons.com/moon-knight-team-talk-second-season/
I would love a second season but it really needs more action. Russos would be perfect for it but I don’t know if they would do a series.
