Mark Williams is an intriguing prospect... haven't checked out where his average mock is at... think he'll be available by the time rockets make their nets pick? Outside if rim protection, rebounds does he have upside in other things? Shooting?
As the great Darrell Royal said: “If he bites you as a dog, he will bite you as a pup.” Chet and Paolo have some bite. I have confidence the moment will not be too big for either of those two. As good as I expect Jabari to be, I still need some convincing on that front.
I'm good with Jabari with our first pick. Undecided between Ivey, Chet and Banchero. Would love for us to snatch Keegan Murray, AJ Griffin or Branham by trading up with our second pick. In general, I hope we draft an irrational number of players. The only way we can tank is if the team around Sengun/Green is even worse next season, which can only be achieved with rookies. I'm happy with that approach because we're not a good bet to do well in FA or pay LT with this owner, we must secure an elite core with patience and tanking.
I was all in on Williams for a bit, but the more I think about it, the more I'm intrigued with Kessler. Wherever he goes, I bet Kessler is in the NBA a long time.
I only saw a little bit of both and I'm not much of a college guy... what do you see in Kessler over Mark?
I'm not saying I like him over Williams--I would pick Williams. But I'd be happy adding Kessler later if Williams isn't there or can't be had for a reasonable trade-up. Kessler's shot blocking and rebounding translates. Give him 24 months in an NBA strength and conditioning program and he'll be a solid big for years. Decent touch, elite timing. There will always be a place in the regular season NBA for a rim protector who is not an absolute liability on offense and in the playoffs for six fouls in the post to go against someone like Joel.
I agree. I'll continue to say I'm in the minority on drafting Banchero but I'd like either Duren, Williams or Kessler (in that order) with the Brooklyn pick. All three bigs are shot blocking rebounders.
I seriously want to know what a lot of posters see for the banchero fit for THIS roster and the future… Sengun green KPJ all have defensive issues to work through. Banchero added to that core doesn’t seem smart to me. regarding our BK pick… I am hoping Keegan Murray falls and we can package up to get him
I know what their response would be, and it’s a sensible one: “Fit” should not be considered at this stage of the rebuild when evaluating a draft prospect.
Yep but that was more prevalent last year when we had zero building blocks. Now we have 1 who isn’t defensively savvy or competent yet. Fit is starting to matter when you have 2 building blocks. (JG + Banchero) Unfortunately I put KPJ in their as a third too because I don’t have faith that stone won’t give him an extension as our PG of the future.
Absolutely, he can. Good question I am hopeful we give Sengun the necessary minutes to develop more this year though.
That's fair and Sengun deserves it. He is young, high IQ, unselfish, good touch, mature. It would take some pretty strong conviction from our scouting team/Stone to pick Banchero knowing it might force a "pick one" somewhere in the next year or two. But, it's not completely unreasonable depending on who our staff believes is our "core" (for me it's just Green at this point). Also, if we see Banchero as a future star and excellent pair with Green, but still believe we need one more top 5 pick having a Sengun/Banchero lineup might help us develop young players while getting another top 5 pick then filling in deficiencies via trades/free agency. If we go Sengun or Banchero we still have a trade market and a good asset coming back to us.
To add to this... it feels like it would be easier to build a team around Banchero/Green than Sengun/Green
It will be nice to get to May 17th and just know where we are picking. All this hypothetical conversation gets tired after a while because you really can't forecast much until we know where we are picking and who is picking ahead of us.
