That was a great win. Odorizzi was in the pocket for the second game in a row. Still left runners on but great win.
I think DFA'ing Baez lit a fire inside of Odorizzi. I'll definitely take it, we need all the innings we can get out of our starters during this stretch.
He has slipped since LAST YEAR when he WON THE BATTING TITLE. Now he has a long leash, but there is a leash.
Gurriel doesn't have a single barrel this season. Batted ball profile in shambles. Worst walk rate he's ever posted so far. Terrible season so far but maybe he bounces back at some point.
Getting Tucker on track after only 23 games is huge. It took him to mid-May to get really on track last season. The offense should just get better.
Maybe Dusty should be playing Yuli at 3rd and 2nd for an inning or so at a time if they ever get a big lead. I think he has immense value for his Cuban history and connections. If he wants to play again next year it should be as a bench player ( maybe even after trade deadline if a good 1B is available). Ideally he will retire and take a position as a special assistant working with Cuban recruiting and prospects.
Re-signing Verlander and seeing him return to form has been great, but you see him talking to Urquidy in the dugout and helping out the pitchers like this and that’s invaluable. Getting another year or two with one of the greatest of all time will be huge for the development of Urquidy, Garcia, Javier, Valdez, etc.
Is this the first time the #1-7 have been in the same lineup back to back games this season? Maybe it happened in the first week, I don’t recall.
