Twitter miscounted its daily users for three years straight

Twitter overstated the number of daily users on its service for three years straight, overcounting by up to 1.9 million users each quarter. The error was due to Twitter inadvertently counting multiple accounts as active when they were all tied to a single user, even if they weren’t all in use. These incorrect usage numbers were given for Q1 2019 through Q4 2021.

This is, somehow, not the first time Twitter has done this. In 2017, Twitter also realized it had been overstating its user figures by about 1 million to 2 million users for three years. The repeat mistake was revealed today in Twitter’s earnings release for the first quarter of 2022.

And it just so happened that they discovered this oversight a few days after Elon Musk's bid to buy the company was accepted by the board, much to the consternation of the Twitterati rank and file.

    What an amazing coincidence.

Musk went full Gamestop on Twitter. @txtony and @Major called it a low ball offer and the offer would never be taken serious by anyone. Anyone that uses Twitter knows its a cess pool due to it being poorly ran. Its a failure of conflicting philosophies of Jack Dorsey and the leftist board. Dorsey had zero interest in the hyper monetization while the board sought out its own agenda. Value wise, Twitter was in a terrible spot.

The scams, bots and fake user account promotions were no secret. For a few hundred dollars, anyone can buy tens of thousands of followers. Everyone in twitter, including Dorsey, turned a blind eye, knowing the network effect was paramount.

I stated a few days ago that Peter Thiel likely had a heavy hand in this acquisition. It seems this plan was put in place in early January. Musks 9% shares was public. Who knows what other large amounts of twitter stock was accumulated by other billionaires to help push this hostile takeover. Musk seemed very confident it was going to happen.

You can trust contributing members for sure
The majority of burner accounts are made with free memberships on any social media platform

the chances of multiple accounts decreases significantly when it’s paid

I was wrong. But you mischaracterized what I said. I never said it won’t be taken seriously. I said I think the board won’t approve because I thought it was too low an offer. I still think it’s too low but hey the board didn’t.

There were lots of premature attacks on the board by posters here. AFAIK, the board deliberated quietly and made their decision without fanfare. But if indeed there were maneuvers for Musk to take the company private and members of the board were behind that, the board may be legitimately sued for not working for the best interest of the shareholders. Unlikely to be successful, but we might find out if indeed board members were behind this.

Its noble of you to admit you base case was incorrect. What I am specifically saying is Twitter stock was over valued at its current course, not under valued. It was in the best interest of the shareholders for the Board to accept the offer, not reject it.

Musk did not go into this haphazard. He went in with a plan and had other large investors backing him. There is much speculation on his overall tactic, but when it comes to money, investors and Musk, its best to expect par, if not plentiful returns. These other large twitter investors know this.

I do believe Twitter will be a better overall platform after this, but its concerns me how much power and influence Musk is accumulating. With Twitter being one of the largest political platforms out there, Musk has his fingers right on the pulse of what the world really thinks. Again, go look at what Plantir technologies specializes in. This is Cambridge Analytics on steroids. Unlike CA, Plantir will not be a 3rd party vendor. They are a direct partner with Musk. And dont discount Tesla's AI contribution. Democrats and Republicans should be very wary.

Musk is very well on his way of building a political party that will pull from both RNC and DNC.

I read that and understood it but I didn't look into how it was overvalued. Unless something weird happens, the deal is done and I don't care that much at this time.

    As for Musk...

In Musk we trust. This is what I wrote about his effort to take over Twitter a few weeks ago. He has accumulated huge wealth and power. Hope he does good... but unchecked and unadvised power tends to corrupt.

    https://bbs.clutchfans.net/threads/...-prince-of-media.315260/page-14#post-14049842

Mr. Musk, a self-proclaimed champion of free speech said it should be up to the public shareholders and not the board to accept his bid. He said this isn't about money but democracy, calling the platform a de-factor town square. All good and cool. However, this company must then become private under the control of a single man in order for changes to happen for the good of the public and democracy.

Why am I'm being reminded of some totalitarian tendency?
