The way OL is going off the board I am glad they drafted Green where they did. Yeah there is the debate on an OT at 3 and McDuffie at 15, but if Tunsil is healthy and performs like he can, next year then you extend him.
I agree, my only point was the claim that 'no one said this was a reach', we clearly had people saying that. ESPN and Walterfootball and some here did say he was reach. I said earlier that the Texans likely took him because they knew he wouldn't be there later, that was my initial take of drafting him. I'm not at all against the pick.
I seem to remember people say Texans "don't know what they are doing" picking JJ Watt. I see fans giving up on Jalen Green after 2 weeks. I see fans/baseball people say the Astros must "MAXIMIZE the Window" and trade Kyle Tucker for a reliver or a #3 pitcher when there was a log jam at the Major league level. Fans and "experts" can't see the Forest from the trees, sometimes. They don't see the long term. They fall in love, EVERY YEAR, with "Names" and not what is best for the team. Where would the Astros be now if they had traded Kyle Tucker while he was in the Minors? What if the Rockets gave up on Jalen Green after a month in the league? To quote Buddy Ryan: "if you listen to the fans, you'll be sitting up there with them".
At the same time ESPN.com has him as the number 1 rated guard, if he was really their guy then there's no sense in trying to get cute by maximizing your position by constantly moving down to get him because he COULD have gone 5-10 picks later. Just draft him if its not an uber reach
Looking ahead to No. 37, if you're on the Breece Hall bandwagon, I think there's a solid chance he's still there at 37. Of the remaining picks before 37, almost every single one of those teams has a top tier running back. The lone exception is Tampa Bay at 33, who legitimately scares me.
I could see Tampa getting him. Or a trade happening. We're in a good position though. Walker will be available if we like him. So will a lot of the pass rushers. I actually hope we can get a second second round pick and get our running back and a good pass rusher. We've got the capital for it.
So depending on who Vikings take, 2nd rd could begin tomorrow withe Deane, Breece Hall, Kenneth Walker, Ojabo, and Willis all available. Texans pick 5th
this is why I hate Walter's take of "They could have just taken a better lineman at 3..." Because maybe Stinger is that dude, it seems the Texans were very high on him (although of course they will say that now) but I hate the idea that they could just take some other CB later in the draft as if all CB prospects are the same. Texans took a CB at #3....clearly they think he can be a special player. This is why I always hate the 'Just trade down' mentality. If you like a player...just get him. At the end of the day it's the player that has the value and not all players are made the same. I'm not against trading down but some people seem to think it's always good to have more picks and lose sight of the fact that these picks have to turn into players eventually. We have this discussion in the NBA with OKC too, I wonder if OKC fans would rather have more picks or Sengun right now. I know what I'd rather have.
Interesting note... we now have 2 or more picks in all rounds but 2 and 7... I think Caserio was positioning us to be aggressive the rest of the draft... Wouldn't mind a trade up for breece in bottom of 1st... someone will otherwise leap in front of Houston to take him...
