So it seems that the new Nick cage movie is getting a lot of buzz and he has had some interesting movies over the last couple of years like Pig and Willy's Wonderland.

Has there ever been a more interesting actor who just likes to act and is not really in it for a buck, at the height of his popularity he was still making 3 movies a year.

He can't have a top 5 it has to be a top 8

    What you got.

    Leaving Las Vegas
    Con Air
    The Rock
    Face Off
    Raising Arizona
    Red Rock West
    Moonstruck
    Wild at Heart.

Is there anything over the last 5 years or so that I have missed that should be watched?

Color Out of Space and Mandy were nuts, in a good way.

eta: you left Adaptation and Matchstick Men off your list

This is from 30 years ago, so it doesn't fit your time frame, but it's a rather obscure "erotic thriller/romantic tragedy" (which is how one critic described it). that went straight to video.

    Zandalee
, 1991. The only film made by Nick that year, which is unusual. The movie has a great cast, with some making brief, but memorable, appearances. The leads, besides Nick, are Judge Reinhold and Erika Anderson. The amazing supporting cast includes Vivica Lindfors, Aaron Neville, Joe Pantoliano, Marisa Tomei, Steve Buscemi, Ian Abercrombie, and Zack Galligan. I've seen it and it's a trip. I think Nick was higher than a kite most of the time, but he's excellent, as is Reinhold.

Chances are that it's streaming somewhere.

mandy was a trip for sure. Love Pig…..but then I’ve always been a Cage fan, and I’m a foodie who loves truffles. And Oregon.

I have never watched those 2 movies, I need to do a marathon.
That's a great cast and I want to watch some young Cage.

“I’ve got all these creditors and the IRS and I’m spending $20,000 a month trying to keep my mother out of a mental institution, and I can’t,” Cage said about his debts. “It was just all happening at once.”

Cage said that he refused to get to the point where he would have to file for bankruptcy, even if people in his life were telling him he should. That’s where the endless string of Cage-starring VOD movies came in handy, although the Oscar winner stressed that he never took on a role he didn’t believe in — even if the role was helping him avoid bankruptcy.

“When I was doing four movies a year, back to back to back, I still had to find something in them to be able to give it my all,” Cage said. “They didn’t work, all of them. Some of them were terrific, like ‘Mandy,’ but some of them didn’t work. But I never phoned it in. So if there was a misconception, it was that. That I was just doing it and not caring. I was caring.”

He was doing 3 movies a year when he was on top.

Don't you try and rain on the Cage.

My wife has a teenage crush on Nick Cage in Valley Girl.

As far as she is concerned, that is the greatest Nick Cage movie of all time. She'd be upset if she found out you guys weren't putting it on your lists.

    So for her:

Also, Bad Leutenant Port of Call New Orleans is the most over the top acting performance in the history of acting. If you've never seen it, you should, just for the spectacle:

Sounds like he is doing well financially again and wants to make a comeback to better movies -- he is legit crazy though - lots of funny stories out there.

I heard 'Pig' was a great film. It's like Taken but with a truffle pig.

Awesomely terrible movie. The Wicker Man is also top-shelf Cage overacting. I can watch the scene where he punches the girl in the bear suit and the bee scene several times in a row.

    Top 5
    Con Air
    Face/Off
    The Rock
    Weight of Massive Talent
    National Treasure

    Honorable Mention
    Broken Arrow*

*It is honorable mention because despite being a cheesy 90s Action movie, technically Christian Slater is technically playing the Nic Cage role.
