I'm not worried about Banchero's defense overall. He's not a rim protector but his defensive issues are overblown. Tobias Harris and Marcus Morris had the exact same concerns and neither one are turnstiles. Harris is an average defender at worst. The form on Banchero's jumper form looks smooth and he shot very well from deep towards the end of the season, so I'm not too concerned that he'll be a liability from the outside. Williams only took 14 threes all season and shoots 59.7% from the FT line. And his form is ugly. That's not showing any potential as a shooter at all.
Williams will most likely not be playing PF on the next level, especially considering his inability to space the floor. I think you're too smart to ignore sample size with respect to their shooting percentages. Williams shot 5-14 on the season, Banchero shot 44-130. Banchero also averaged 17 PPG, not 15. Banchero is a freshman and Williams is a senior.
Like Wood, don't think Trevion will be a DEFENSIVE fit at the 5. His playmaking is elite however, and he is a bucket in the paint. Likely a 6th man. But his efficiency and production only playing 20 MPG is intriguing and is comparable or better than Banchero's PPG, TRB and AST.
Rockets have the worst defense in NBA 2 consecutive seasons and your solution is to keep adding AVERAGE defenders to core of Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun? And that's the BEST case scenario.
Not only that one thing I noticed at the OSU game... When Duke runs sets, often time Banchero is the one directing. Maybe Roach/Moore werent vocal enough or it was too loud for Williams/#45 to hear it. But he is a clever player. He also would be the one to gather the team for on court huddles. With that being said EJ Liddell is a beast. Banchero had a rough night when he was matched on him.
Ok Duke last year had nowhere near the talent of '22 Duke or Gonzaga. I believe it was the first year they missed out on the tourney since the 90s. Few runs a motion/read React type offense... This year in the half court it turned more into just Nembhard/Timme show with Strawther & Holmgren making the occasional appearance. Last year Suggs who is supposedly less gifted offensively than Chet was a primary option as a freshman. It just doesn't add up unless like I mentioned earlier, maybe Chet struggled understanding the offense. Did he need something simple. With all the talent and lack of player turnover Few has picked up he only has two regional championships... You would think if he had KD he would integrate accordingly, especially when he just did it with a lesser offensive talent in Suggs.
Suggs is a PG and Chet is a 4. You understand that those roles are very different right? Banchero did not have a PG of Suggs caliber or a 5 that was as prolific scorer as Timme. Timme averaged more points than Banchero last season.
I'm a proponent of drafting Chet. I didn't say Banchero should be our target or would be a great fit. I didn't bring even him up, I talked about Williams' fit in today's NBA and you started comparing them. It's also a bit odd that you're against adding average defensive players to our roster but seem to like Williams.
We've been going back and forth for about 5 or 6 posts now about Trevion Williams and Banchero's defensive issues and you suddenly think I'm talking about Mark Williams? No, I'm not talking about Mark Williams.
I picked the first video I came to. Here, will this one do? It was a different era dude, Boozer wasn't asked to handle the ball or shoot 3's. Less 3-pt shooters made for more congestion and traffic if he chances it. People really are clinging to "Bigs" passing and shooting 3's at a mediocre quantity at a mediocre quality. They think they are re-inventing the wheel. Banchero shot a measle 3.3 three point attempts per game at 33.8%. That's 4.0 (3PA's) per 40-minutes. Theis gave us 3.0 (3PA's) at 29.1% (3P%). Theis (with Rockets last season) 4.9 (3PA's) per 36-minutes. Theis gave Boston about 4 (3PA's) at 34% a couple years ago.....big deal. Freaking Theis 3.0 (3PA's) in 22.5 minutes and shot 29.1% (3P%). 4.9 (3PA's) per 36-minutes. Big freaking deal, so now Banchero is Steph Curry shooting 3's. Hasn't even been shooting from NBA 3-pt distance consistently. Something's you want to transfer from college to NBA but probably won't. This might be one that doesn't. Banchero is 3.2 asts per game.....3.9 asts per 40-minutes. Oh my gosh we got this guy #1.....he is Steph Curry shooting and CP3 passing. Freaking 3.9 asts (if he plays 40 minutes is garbage if it takes away touches from a point guard or combo guard. The point guard can get me 9 assists or 5 to 6 from a decent combo guard. People trying to make Banchero out to be the reincarnation of Doncic. I'll take him 4th......safe the sales pitch.
Boozer took like 4 dribbles total in that new video. How blind do you have to be to not see this? Boozer is a small ball 5 today. Banchero is a wing and ball handler. Say what you will about his %s, he's taken more self created 3s than Chet and Jabari combined. %s is nothing without context. You don't have to like him as a player, but his play style is as close to Boozer as it is to Steph Curry.
Im trying to tell you all that crap that Banchero is doing at Duke, AINT TRANSLATING TO THE NBA!! Sengun did more at Turkey shooting 3's and passing.....what happened? Oh, better competition. Edited: scratch that Sengun numbers from 3 and passing actually sucked at Turkey
As of right now how many wins do the rockets get next year? I’m think 31-32ish wins. Which based on this year would be the 8th pick. Of course you have to wait to see how the draft impacts things. You could also have a situation where the team has 20 games left have had success but start sitting guys to lose. Then it’s guns blazing next season haha
Bro Trevion Williams averaged 0.4 3 pointers per game! He only shot 29 3s in his 4 year college career. Let’s not put the cart before the horse. He’s intriguing but I can confidently say Banchero is a better 3 point shooter.
I'm waiting to see who the Rockets first pick; but also will it be #17? or move up? or move down? Do we trade C Wood? Who do we get back? Do we trade Eric Gordon? Who do we get back? Nwaba? ditto Tate? Kenyon? Nix? ditto, ditto, ditto 55 wins if we trade Wall for Westbrook (just kidding) Many moves pending which could net us an additional 1st rounder(s)? 2nd rounder(s)? Will money be freed up for free agency? I'm hoping for a trade partner in Portland. We have to wait and see.....I'm with you on twist my arm, answer now!!! Really felt like the team could've won 30 games this year if the really let them play. Vets sat when top 5 worst record was set.....our rooks really tested some teams in those final 15 games. Some were playoff teams needing to win. Had the Rockets turned the rooks loose in January, we may have won 9 more games and hit 30 wins. Now add more help in either Chet/Jabari/Banchero or Ivey.
Here would be my ideal pairings with the first and second pick we own. Just fantasy time assuming the guys in discussion are available. Chet/Keegan Murray - Get the rim protector and a "mini" Paolo with Keegan. (trade up would be necessary) Paolo/Tari Eeason - Get the best offensive player in the draft and give him one of the best wing defenders Jabari/Sochan - Get the best shooter in the draft and give him a willing passer and play creator for open looks. Jaden/ Mark Williams - Get the best athlete, slide KPJ to 3 and put Williams next to Sengun. Ideally we could give Sengun a running mate and improve from Tate at the same time.
