For me it’s almost Chet or bust we either get Chet and select him outright or trade up to get Chet or trade the pick for Bradley Beal
Has anyone compared Paolo to Webber yet? I think out of all of the power forwards I've seen mentioned--Randle, LeBron, Boozer, Derrick Coleman, etc--Webber is probably the best projection for Paolo. -Both have really great ball handling skills for a guy that big -Both can score down low -Both can rebound the ball -Both can be above average defenders -In terms of perimeter shooting, that wasn't a real thing in Webber's era but he definitely had the range and ability to do so. I'm saying this with compliments to both Webber (who I loved as a Warrior) and Paolo. The Sacramento King version of Webber is probably the baseline for Paolo, especially in today's NBA/offense
Webber was one of the best PF in his prime and was a huge reason why those Adelman Kings teams were successful. As far as playmaking, between him and Vlade up front they didn't have any issues executing Adelman's offense to perfection.
It'll definitely be some give and take--Paolo could be a much better 3 point shooter but probably can't be the shot blocker Webber was early on due to Webber having a massive wingspan.
Haha right, which is why I am asking if you think Paolos eveb compares to Webbers playmaking. Webber was a beauty to watch in that Adelman offense and should have a ring to show for it if it weren't for a confirmed rig job by Tim in 2002
I think Paolo can if he's on the right team/system. You put him in Detroit and I don't think his talents will be maximized. Same with OKC. But he would do well in Houston, Orlando could definitely use him, etc
I'd say Webber with shooting more threes would be an upside outlook (and not a completely unrealistic outcome either) for Paolo's offense.
I love his shooting efficiency and pretty much nothing else. He doesn't have length, not a good defender, not a good passer, injury concerns… If the rockets draft him I’ll be disappointed.
https://theboxandone.substack.com/p/paolo-banchero-2022-nba-draft-scouting?s=w I dont own a sub to this site so I cant offer the rest of the story, but the picture is painted. Video provided expounds in detail.
None of this is wrong. But Coach K and Zags coach made very different decisions on which player would dominate on offense. Zags coach was actually criticized for not integrating Chet earlier and Chets ability to continue Zags success playing off ball allowed Zags coach to continue using Timme as hub. If you recall, the previous season Zags went further than Duke in March Madness with Timme as focal point. There was no such player like that on Duke team. There were other factors at play than you've identified.
He does have very good length, like Sharpe, with 7'0 wingspan. But unlike Sharpe, he seems to have lost his explosiveness and lateral agility since recovering from injuries. Another reason why Sharpe concerns me, too much of a mystery.
Because of my back and forth with @jiggyfly the past couple of weeks I had to take a look at Banchero a lot closer and, right now, I would put him ahead of Jabari on my own list. Jabari's 3 point shooting is exciting but I'm more concerned with what he can do if the 3 point shot isn't falling on any given night. At least with Banchero you know he has more "real estate" on the offensive end. All in all, I hope we just end up with a top 3 pick. Any one of those guys can further accelerate this team's rebuild.
Keegan Murray is best scorer in this draft right now. And it's really not even close. In this draft there were a dozen or more players with better PPG than Banchero. Keegan, Abmas, Cockburn, Johnny Davis, Liddell, Julian Champagnie, David Roddy, Ochai Agbaji, Timme, Mathurin, Ivey, Tshiebwe were all more productive scorers than Banchero. https://www.ncaa.com/stats/basketball-men/d1/current/individual/136 Can Banchero be better in NBA, very possible. But so can Sharpe, Ivey or Jabari. Heck all those guys listed above should not be underestimated either. And Chet is no slouch offensively either. And there is no denying that Chet is the most or one of most efficient offensive players in this draft.
When people start taking the deep dives and get away from snippets and narrative driven opinion its all there for the plain eye to see. Its turning into a debate about projections and ceilings vs tangible day 1 ability. Shooting never goes out of style and Im confident Jabari will eat and make his mark. He will need sturdy guard play and an environment where he can refine his trade. NBA defenders will get into him. They will crowd his chest and while he's the best tough shot maker in the draft it does make me wonder what else will he be able to do when they go all out to take that shot away - like in a final possession for example. You can game plan shooters out of critical moments. We'll be fine with whoever gets drafted in the long run Im sure of it I agree. If we get a bad dose of luck and for whatever reason Jalen Green isnt the savior I think he is or he breaks down it would be nice to have another alpha type player ready to take the reigns instead of an ultra elite glue guy.
