Baseball guys love to say small sample size to deflect an issue then quote a small sample size to make a point.
In your opinion, how many games do you require to consider a player out of a slump? Do you think that Baker should have sat or dropped Yuli in the batting order last night due to his slump?
I don't. I just want him, and the rest of the team, to perform better. It's great that he went 7/17 over a few games. He's still batting a .218 with a .578 ops. That needs to drastically change.
Right.. the vast majority of the team has been in a season long slump, but your post specifically mentioned his slump and how the LRL match ups didn't matter because of that, yet Alvarez and Tucker are also in season long slumps.
It really does, both he and Tucker are on my fantasy baseball team. I'm hurtin here. Oh...…. it will change. That's Baseball
Its a win, but not a victory. From a mojo/emotional/psychological standpoint, we merely stopped the bleeding. Another win today and things are merely put to right. No, we need a series victory versus a solid team.
Give me 90 more not having a victory nights that stopped the bleeding. Solid team, Rangers, I don't care. Get this team to the postseason, preferably with a bye, and let the magic happen.
No my post was regarding how the LRL matchups aren't nearly as important with the 3 batter rule. Yes I realize if an inning ends it doesn't apply, but it's not nearly the same dynamic as it was prior to the rule change. Yuli just got dragged into the argument.
One thing about last nights game that caught my eye: Plate Discipline. (Obviously we’ve had some pretty rough strike zones over the past couple of weeks which can lead to swinging at some bad pitches or getting rung up on some bad calls) But the fact that they were working counts and laying off some tough pitches was a good sign to me. That’s when our offense has been at its best over the past few years. Hoping they continue to build on that moving forward.
The key to the lineup of this team is Kyle Tucker. The Astros took off and started winning games once they got out of April and Tucker started killing the ball. One of the reasons he was in the 6 spot was to stretch the lineup.
As Dusty Baker would say: Today was a scheduled off day for Tuck. Baker drives me crazy with his lineups.
