    That's not it at all.

Capela has none of the skillset of KG, Banchero does have a lot of the same skill set just not as good.

I am the one gaslighting when all you got out of this is Capela to KG?

The only thing I said to take away is the athleticism, I think he has some the passing and feel for the game which is why I said he is a lesser version.

I know you are purposely being obtuse, not a great look. You can disagree with me all you want but stop twisting what I said since you can quote me bar for bar.

I guess anyone who is big, can score, and has some semblance of passing and dribbling has a similar skillset to Lebron these days

he has nowhere near the passing or feel for the game as Lebron…Lebron is up there with the likes of Chris Paul and Magic Johnson when it comes to those categories…u sound ridiculous

Bron with way less athleticism, way less passing, and way less feel for the game is no longer Lebron, so bringing him up in a comparison makes no sense

What’s next? Player X is like Embiid, just take away the strength, skill, and shooting?

Banchero has more than a semblance of passing and has a great feel for the game for a 19 year old.

We get it you don't like the comparison, cool.

I generally agree with this, but I think it is less so with post players. When it comes to players that will be defending at least some inside, there is a need to be able to defend some.

He doesn't just block shots well, he does a number of things very well on the defensive end and the impact he has defensively is great. He is the best defensive prospect in years.

Also, he is almost guaranteed to play some center.

We don't know anything for sure with any of these players, but we have a pretty good idea of what Chet will and will not do well, and he does a lot of things very well defensively.

Offensively he is an elite finisher, he cuts to the basket very well, he is excellent in transition, he is a good three point shooter and at times he has shown he can go one one one and score.

We also know that he will guard the perimeter better than the vast majority of post players.

What we don't know is if he will handle the grind of 80+ games well or whether he will ever become a consistent scorer in the half court set.

He doesn't just block shots..... he switches inside exceptionally well, he cuts off angles very well, he alters FAR more shots than he blocks. He doesn't even have to guard players straight up well to be a really good defender, he only needs to switch well and we know he does that.

It is very hard to find players that impact the defensive side of the game like Holmgren does that also are good on the offensive side of the ball. He is going to score 15-20 points a night after he gets comfortable at a very high efficiency.... he gets a lot of put backs, he cuts and finishes very well inside, he shots the 3 and has shown the ability to post up some and scores in transition..... the question is whether he is going to eventually be a 22-25+ point a game scorer....

When you build a team, you take the best player but you also have to be aware that you long term will need a balance between offense and defense and need two way players. Holmgren is a two way player, so he would be a good fit.

Having said that, with Sharpe entering the draft I am confident we will get a good prospect regardless.

    What!?!
Duke ran a Horn series... Lots of 4/5 screens(designed to utilize big play maker), rolls(Williams) or double gate screens(open shooters). Just a lot of typical Coach K plays not sure how you would say no offensive strategy...

Same offense they had with Zion or Tatum or with Team USA.
Banchero was used in the same manner as LBJ was used in team USA. There were a lot of similar plays.

Roach would initiate, when plays would break down you would often find Banchero slide into open space from where the break down occurred. Banchero deferred but he understands spacing well enough to affect plays with/without the ball.

Gonzaga plays like a motion offense(I don't think many Rockets fans like this... I believe McHale tried running a Read/React) what do you mean "Few has done this before he believes in his offense" -_-. Timme just reads the defense well and the team understands spacing. Why can't Holmgren do the same things Timme or Kispert did. It seems he does the least movement or jocking for position while on the floor.

Jabari Smith has his reputation as a "good" defender. He shares the same exact measurables as Banchero they share DWS and the defensive rating is comparable (7 point difference in rating for the anal metric nerds). So does Smith get a pass because his limbs flail wildly when he's playing defense or is he not a good defender too and its just convenient to ignore the similarities in order to keep the narratives going? Seems like people are wildly trying to discredit what Banchero can do on a basketball court and think one draft pick is going to magically change a defensive culture. Jabari is the difficult shot maker extraordinaire, but when NBA defenders get in his chest I have a feeling that his size advantage at the NCAA level to make those shots will be diminished somewhat. With no midrange game or rim finishing ability its a big concern.

Chet is expected to be some 7 foot guard "like KD" yet he hasnt even shown a consistent ability to break his man off the dribble in college. Why is that the expectation at the NBA level? Same for his 3 pointer - Chet was 2-16 on three pointers in the tournament. TWO FOR SIXTEEN!!! Is he going to be a practice hero, regular season stud and then flame out when games matter most? I could paint a picture of that being a real possibility. He will be a difference maker on help defense no doubt, but man you'd think a player taken top 3 would be more dynamic TODAY vs waiting for a developmental curve on offense. I see Poku and Kristaps when I watch Chet. Not a bad thing at all, but feels like we could do better.

You need to give Jalen another leader - a 'for sure' type player that can carry the team if he ever went down for any stretch. Can Chet or Jabari EVER be a first option team leader?

Its just strange to see how far some guys will go to overlook and bypass Banchero with the HOPES that the other guys would reach their ceiling one day and to do it by criticizing his shooting and defense - the two easiest things that young NBA players are able to "fix". Everyone just watched that guy beast in the NCAA tournament and yet somehow we're going to convince ourselves that Shaedon Sharpe may be better based on his high school tape??? Crazy.

Coach K typically does run a lot of Horn, but it’s still a basic spread concept or 5 out concept. High screens at the top of the key, it’s still designed to get a drive to the basket, kick out or pick and pop.
It’s still a take your turn offense the way it was played this year.
It’s not iso in the true sense but it was still take turns to get stats.

And it’s just absolutely false that Chet didn’t move in their offense, look at the shot chart.
Look at the pace, playing off ball of a heliocentric post player requires cutting and set shots

Duke was a very poorly ran team this year.... the offense was mediocre as far as the plays they ran and the parts really did not fit well either. The coaching this year at Duke really wasn't all that great.... but it hasn't been in a number of years.

Having said that, it doesn't reflect negatively on Banchero - he did what he could under the constraints.

Coach K has been a magnificent recruiter but his coaching has slipped.

Duke had 5 players averaging double figures. 3 players averaging 3+ assists, with one more right at 3. 6 players with right at 7-7+ fga.

Paolo had the highest usage rate by far while at the same time having only the third highest assist %.

Yes, he was their main offensive focal point, but he wasn’t the main facilitator.
The entire offense was a take your turn offense, with Paolo getting the most turns.

Chet has been known to be hyper aggressive in nature. A hunter on defense and has shown the ability to put the ball on the floor. He's a better shooter than Banchero, a supreme defensive prospect and has a high motor. Banchero can't move laterally like Jabari does and doesn't take up the space that Chet does. He's very flat footed on defense and can't shoot much from 3. So you can just give him the Jaesean Tate treatment when he's out there. Chet would make this team better immediately and is the better prospect long term. Jabari Smith would make the team better immediately but not sure he's going to be a better prospect long term than Paolo.

And defense/shooting aren't the easiest things to "fix". Simmons still can't shoot and Harden is still a liability on defense.

I thought this as well, it was criminal how hard it was for Banchero to get easy shots, or anybody for that matter.

Not a lot of great passing on that team either.

Listen... I absolutely hate Duke while in recent years their players are has hateable as they used to be I still don't have many nice things to say about the program.

It doesn't change the fact that they still ran their sets, Roach and Griffin are not the playmakers they were talked up of being.

However, when it matters... big tournament time there was improvement still running those sets and they were a regional champion(out performing Gonzaga). Duke isn't the Duke of old... They head hunt the 5 star one and done.

Funny enough they are constitently getting further in the tourney with the high turnover 5 star recruits. Ultimately that is what programs are chasing now.

"Heliocentric" post play does not sound like a Mark Few trust his offensive because that isn't Gonzaga ball.
At anyrate if that were true why wasn't Chet the Heliocentric post player when paired with Watson?

His offense was dunker spot, lobs or quick post move nothing more than 3-4' from the rim OR a 3 above the break.

Early in the season I saw a stat that he was shooting over 40% transition 3s but struggled in the half court 3.

Is it just possible Chet struggled to grasp spacing in a motion offense so they simply his role to slide to the dunker spot, rim run or as the trailer take the 3 or high low pass to Timme?

Regardless I'm pretty if we get the #1 based on bits of pieces throughout the season from Silas... this pick is going to be Holmgren/Banchero.

If you're really into the draft, I recommend Adam Spinella on Youtube and Twitter.

Tell me what "mixtape" or highlight reel to cue in on when discussing Chets abilities to put the ball on the floor CONSISTENTLY (yes Ive seen his coast to coast transition stuff) so we can be on the same page. "hyper aggressive" .. "he doesnt back down" .. "heart of a lion" .. all that stuff wont matter when he's getting physically abused by guys just as tall that weight 30-40 lbs more than him. Its just simple physics.

If you are really saying that Paolos only benefit to an offense would be his ability to hit a 3 pointer when the defense sags then we're not watching the same game. He does SO MUCH MORE THAN THAT! Defensively there is plenty to build on. The tape is there for those who dont want to keep their head in the sand. His issue has been consistency and desire. He is apathetic on defense, but when he applies himself he's not the stark liability a lot of people make him out to be. Numerous times clips in this very thread have been supplied where he ramps up when games are tight and his ability to switch onto guards effectively are also there, but for whatever reason we get left with "he's too flat footed and cant shoot much from 3" LOL like huh? By all metrics he's an average 3 ball shooter and still all the other things he brings in playmaking and shot creation. Iso Bully Ball and leadership are just ignored so that we can watch Chet play great help defense and hope that one day he can do more than shoot 3's consistently. What makes him the better long term prospect if so many boxes have to be checked to reach that final form?

More narratives. For every Ben Simmons we can cite a Kawhi Leonard in terms of bad college shooters who became serviceable. James Harden when he wanted to played good defense. Just another example of a supreme usage player picking his spots. Does Harden have to be an all NBA defender to be effective and contribute to winning basketball? Prime Harden at least? You say Banchero's defensive woes are physical and cant be overcome. I say its an effort thing. You think he's a bad 3 point shooter, and I think he's average. Perspectives I guess.

This, right here. It's still early in the playoffs, and a lot of main players are already missing games due to injuries and protocols. Some aren't even playing like themselves (Ja)

Dude he averaged 14+ just in the flow of the offense while deferring to Timme.

    He'll average 18/10 as a rookie.

If all Jabari averages is 16/7 .... I don't want to waste a top 5 pick on that guy. I expect more.

He’s listed at 7’0 195 lbs and what makes him so unique is that he can block a shot on one end, push the ball up the floor and drain a pull up 3 off the bounce in transition. Like who does that????

Chet is currently averaging 13 points 8 rebounds and 2 assists on 61% shooting… After a slow start he’s now shooting a respectable 35% from 3.

He’s been effective and efficient in a variety of ways. He’s making over 84% of his baskets in transition which is incredible considering he’s not only running the floor, but shooting a good amount of trailing 3’s in the open floor. He has an effective FG of….get this 107.9% in transition. 107.9%?? That’s the most efficient stat I’ve ever seen in my life.

We’ve seen quite a few 7 footers that excel at running the floor, but Chet is DIFFERENT. He’s fluid like a wing in transition and unlike most 7 footers, he is comfortable going coast to coast. According to the numbers he’s the most dangerous transition scorer in college basketball.

If you like advanced numbers then Chet is more than likely your top prospect in the draft. His numbers on paper are pretty impressive. He’s ranked in the top 93 percentile in efficiency and averaging 1.127 points per possession. He’s also shooting 82% from the floor on cuts to the basket and 93% on offensive rebound put backs.

    https://www.sbnation.com/college-ba...t-gonzaga-scouting-report-profile-video-stats
Holmgren’s length stands out almost as much as his scrawny frame. He reportedly has a 7’6 wingspan that qualifies as elite even by NBA standards. Holmgren uses his arms as the foundational tool of his terrific defensive skill set. He has a case as one of the best rim protectors to hit the draft over the last decade.

Here is example of Chet defending one of the greatest scorers and playmakers in this draft, all the way from perimeter to rim.

Lo and behold Chet actually can block shots when not playing center. Hallelujah!!!
