How is he gonna rim protect and keep guys from driving if he is not playing C? This is the biggest disconnect, everybody admits he is not a C but keeping talking about blocking shots, how is this a thing. So what is it? Do you see Holmgren being the paint presence playing C or not and you know the old saying, potential gets you fired, especially in the top 5.
I guess in the current NBA only centers can block shots, there are no weak side help defenders or big 4s that can block shots or play defense. It’s only centers
The Boozer comps are pretty insane. Boozer was a bruising PF that couldn't shoot threes, in today's game he is closer to a small ball 5. Banchero's intrigue is that he could be a big SF. He handles the ball like a SF, passes like a SF, has range like a SF, on offense he is a SF. The question is can he guard the perimeter, if yes, then he is closer to Tatum than Boozer. Also forget about the %s. Chet and Jabari get all their baskets created for them by teammates, they are finishers. Banchero creates his own shots and for others, he's a creator. Chet and Jabari are complimentary players at best on offense, while Banchero is a centerpiece at his best. As overall players the others could still be better due to their impact on defense, but a heliocentric offensive player is highly valued in today's nba.
That's why Harden had to move to the official PG position a few years ago. If he didn't all of those assists he was racking up don't count.
It's going to be one earthshattering experience when some on here Google "2021-2022 NBA blocks per game leader" and not see a center's name.
I believe he proves that unless your name has an alliteration you are unable to be a block boy. I guess the Rockets must draft Dyson Daniels to ensure a rim protector who fits the modern mold.
He did not play C at all? After Allen went down? That's interesting to find out, but Mobley is a different animal due to his lateral quickness and ability to recover, It remains to be seen if Holmgren can do all of that.
They need to remove Hakeem Olajuwon's name from the All-Time steals list because centers don't get steals--that's more of guard type of thing.
How much did JJJ play at C, and he is an outlier because C rounded out the top 5 if I am not mistaken. Nice catch, but do you really think Holmgren is going to be a deterrent at that size?
Chet can still be a impact defender as a weak side helper when facing the elite centers. Question is in that case can he stay in front of people on the perimeter? On most other nights I think he can handle playing down low, if the other team wants to run their offense through Zubac or Theis I think we live with it. Potential getting you fired fits more with Shaedon Sharpe I think. Chet had legit elite production in college. The question is does it translate to the nba? (Probably) Can his body hold up throughout a long career? (I don't know) While I think people here are underrating Banchero a lot, I would be happy with any of the top 4, and even buying into being satisfied with Murray at 5.
Ok now you are just being silly, I got your point and steals is not more of a guard thing. Man you cannot try and talk objectively about Holmgren people just start feeling some kind of way.
This really shows a lack of understanding of the NBA game as it is played in this era. I want Jabari over Chet, but Chet will get plenty of blocks both as a weak side defender and when he is switched out to the post. His long arms and high motor make him very good at guarding the perimeter and still being able to get back and protect the paint. He will also be very disruptive in the passing lanes. Chet is an elite defensive player. Sengun also will become more physical and capable in the post as he puts on upper body strength. I like Jabari, because of his length, motor, and shooting ability. Really looks like Durant to me and with a frame that will allow him to get much stronger.
So now you're going to move the goal post and say that Jackson didn't spend a bulk of his playing time at PF? Steven Adams doesn't exist in your reality? JJJ is just ONE example where you don't have to be labeled a Center to actually block shots. Bam Adebayo? PF. Anthony Davis? PF (you can argue all you want but that's what he's played all throughout his career). Giannis? PF. Serge Ibaka in OKC? PF. The one year Durant finished 3rd in blocks per game as a Warrior? NOT PLAYING center.
Jabari is nothing like Durant due to lack of handles and shot creation. He can be a rich man's Rashard Lewis
I don't disagree with any of this and the shot blocking is a plus, it's just that people keep acting like he will be Rudy Gobert and nobody is going to challenge him and this makes him the guy. I want the guy who is more than a help defender if I am calling him elite.
The only people that think Chet is only a shot blocker or doesn’t have the requisite athleticism/fluidity/lateral speed to be a perimeter defender are Banchero fans. He is an elite all around defender. His athleticism is among the best in the class when size is accounted for. His advanced stats and counting stats are among the best in the class. For those that say he’s a complimentary piece on offense must not have seen the numerous pull up 3s, coast to coast finishes and high post action. Yes, he is a lob threat and spot up shooter as well, that just means he can score in multiple ways.
You are right as far as handles are concerned, but his ability to elevate and shoot over virtually anyone from 3 and mid-range is very Durant like. Durant gets a lot of critical 2 pt buckets from the mid-range and in watching Jabari he can play much like Durant with his back to the basket and elevating for a mid-range 2. He may never have the handles of Durant, but the rest of his game closely resembles Durant.
