Yes those are nice comps in Tom Chambers and Guggliotta I have him as Carlos Boozer. Boozer was a beast in college. Here are first year college stats of both: Player......pts..rebs...Ast...Blks...stls...FG%......FT%......3P% Boozer: ...13.0...6.3.....1.1.....0.7.....1.1....61.4%...74.2%......0 Banchero:17.2...7.8.....3.2.....0.9.....1.1....47.8%...72.9%....33.8% Boozer: 6'9" and 258 pounds Banchero: 6'10" and 250 pounds FGA's Boozer: 7.9 per game Banchero: 13.2 per game per 40-minute production Player........pts.....rebs....Ast..Blks....stls... Boozer:......22.0.....10.6....1.8......1.1.....1.8.... Banchero....20.9.....9.5.....3.9......1.1.....1.3.... A better shooting for distance better passing Boozer https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/carlos-boozer-1.html https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/paolo-banchero-1.html
Banchero is way more talented than Boozer. May not rebound as well. Jesus, this kid is getting de-valued big time. In fact, I've just really had a fairly significant change of heart and now I'd prefer him number one.
He has always looked like a less athletic Blake Griffin to me. I don't wanna say post injury Griffin, because he still has his speed, but Banchero I think will be a good / great power forward and have a good career. (maybe 3-4 time all star). I can easily see a consistent 23/9/4 which is nothing to write off. My problem with Banchero is my same issue with Griffin. I really want defense out of my bigs.
He got cancer. They'd still bring him in every now and then but it's probably been hard to keep working consistently while going through all that.
Yea but do teams draft at the top of the lottery on defense? Offense and playmaking potential is why these guys get top 5 looks. Yes, Mobley & Barnes both had it. Banchero looks to have better size than Blake. There are plenty of average to bad defensive collegiate players who turned out good to great NBA defenders. Hell Brook Lopez became an all NBA defender. Kuzma, Wiggins, Nance, Bridges are just a few examples.
okay you just outed yourself by saying kuzma, wiggins, and nance are good to great nba defenders. mikal bridges was elite at def in college and many considered him the best defensive 3d wing so no he was not an avg to bad defender to begin with. and no, there is no rule that a top 5 pick needs to have offensive playmaking potential. if that were the case, rockets would've been wrong for picking hakeem? spurs and duncan? pelicans and AD? dwight howard and the magic? even last yr with mobley and the cavs? amazing how some of you guys wanting banchero so bad, end up making up some bs narrative just to prop up banchero in any way possible. and it's not like chet and jabari are defense only - they are also really good to potentially great offensive players who would fit in any scheme. there's a signficant benefit to having players you can just plug and play in any system.
Miles Bridges -_- Wiggins, Nance & Kuzma we're are terrible now they are good. Brook was terrible now he is great. Mobley(primary option at USC)and AD(primary option at UK) were both seen as high offensive potentials. Tim Duncan and AD were dominate on both sides. Dwight was a generational talent that was able to get to the rim at will finishing with either hand. Olajuwon -_-... The guy who was drafted ahead of Jordan and NOONE considers it a mistake. The last guy to win the outstanding player of the tournament from a losing team? Olajuwon was skilled offensively by his junior year he wasn't just a defensive player.
This Jabari scored more per game than Banchero, Ivey and Chet and some are saying he is just a jump shooter. Well last heard the object of the game was to get the ball through the hoop. I don't need Jabari to drive and penetrate.....that's why I have F'ing Jalen Green, Porter, Josh Christopher, Sengun and Wood.....throw in Nix who was highly regarded out of highschool. People really are going overboard trying to over glamorize the top 4 picks. There is very little separation between the 4 and they are all.....just OK.
again, chet and jabari aren't just defensive players either. they have just as much offensive potential as anyone in this draft.
That's hilarious. Even fish can be petty. I guess they cross the line if they swim over to the other dugout and take a dump.
This isn't just about shot blocking, its rim protection and deterring guys from attacking the rim / paint. Even in this post apocalyptic NBA where teams shoot half their shots outside the arc .... its the team that wins in the paint that wins more often than not. With Chet you are getting a high level of potential on both ends. All three of these bigs offer high level offensive potential. At worst he's gonna give you 18 & 10 on offense , shooting ~38% from 3 and 70% around the rim while being your defensive anchor .... Essentially his floor is Christian Wood who plays defense and sets picks. At best he's a 30/15 guy who's also your offensive hub dishing out half a dozen or more assists and DPOY anchor of your defense.. Banchero has the potential to be an offensive hub but lacks the defense .... Jabari doesn't have that offensive hub potential. He's a 3D guy (right now) that has no handles and his D isn't impactful on a team scale. There's only one of them who offers star potential on both ends of the court.
Boozer and Fizer, I loved them both in college, but both were super underwhelming in the NBA...... I hope that Banchero is way better than that. DD
There's a big gap between the NBA careers of the 35th overall pick Carlos Boozer (13 seasons, 2x all star, 1 all NBA, avg 16 and 9) and 4th overall pick Marcus Fizer (35 career starts in 6 seasons)
Chet will average less than 10 points a game in the NBA. 9.8 pts, 8 rebounds, 2 blocks per game. Nice stats, but no thanks. Jabrari will average 16, 7, 2. Simple answer go with Jabrari.
Yeah let me get a shot at a guy who is more than a role playing jump shooter in my front court. You dont spend a top 3 pick on glue guys! That guy Banchero plays like someone I've seen before, but I cant make it out. Cue the incensed defensive arguments NOW!
