I have seen pictures ( i suppose this one is about 6 months old) where I think Chet is gaining weight lately. My lord is he skinny though. Chet would be fun to root for and watch get better over time. I still think i would take Paolo/Jabari over him though out of sheer fear.
It's absolutely crazy to think there are 4 better players in this draft it's crazy to think 2 are better but 4? Come on guy. I did not say he was more skilled as a scorer, don't get it twisted, he is more skilled as a playmaker and passer and defensively. It's ok to mock me, but don't twist what I said to make a point. You can't even give KPJ any credit, so I know how it is with Banchero, you have already made up your mind. that's cool just don't act like what you think is somehow superior to anyone else, the fact you think a top 50 guy is a bad comp speaks volume.
Dave joining in on the petty parade is what I live for! LOLLLLL Its always cute to see guys get worked up when "their guy" isnt the consensus and then resort to the jabs! So in one post you say Banchero should be picked 5 or later and then espouse the projections of Shaedon Sharpe in the next? So funny. Its amazing how some guys will actively ignore reality in favor of projections.
What you don't understand is that most knowledgeable Rockets fans WANT Banchero to be ranked unanimously #1. If Lebron or even Melo was truly his ceiling, this would undoubtedly be the case.
Who said he was a better scorer than Melo? Talk about being disingenuous and flabbergasted, stop straw manning this discussion.
I never said LeBron is his ceiling, so I don't know what you are talking about, and most on here don't want him because they think Melo is his ceiling. Thanks for agreeing with me that Melo is not a terrible comp.
Did you not say this? So if you're going to comp Melo, you'd think you're comparing to Melo's greatest skill - scoring. You even reference his mid post game in that QUOTE for emphasis. Because no one is using Melo as comp for playmaking. FYI - Banchero is a good playmaker for his size, he is not a primary playmaker like Cade. Nevermind like Lebron.
I don't think Melo is a good comp but somehow that narrative has gained traction, so even if he is that comp he deserves to be in the top of this draft. I don't comp him to Cade either and for some reason ya'll keep leaving out the Lebron1.0 meaning he would not be as good as Lebron but has some similar skillsets. Please get what I said correctly and stop coming at me with stuff I have never said, why can't you at least admit I never said he would be comparable to Lebron.
Not to get picky, but wouldn’t Lebron be Lebron 1.0? Always thought 1.0 was the initial version. Not poking fun at you, just wondering if I missed something.
Paolo is a much more willing passer NOW than Melo has ever been. Thats the biggest difference. If Paolo wanted to be a 20ppg guy and just put up volume shots then there really is no doubt that he could have been "just as good a scorer" - context is key. Paolo is a similar 3 ball shooter and a better FT shooter when comparing their college season. Paolo almost had twice as many assists as Melo did while taking 5 shots less per game. Im getting a kick out of the shock value though. Cool to see the goalposts move in real time while the arguments shift to fit the narratives.
Here you go -- " Julius Randle and Blake Griffin are comparisons you hear most often associated with Banchero -- more so due to their style of play now and less than how they played in college" - Givony "Banchero doesn't always bring the level of engagement you might hope on either end of the floor in terms of the consistency of his approach. He can be a ball-stopper who tends to let defenders off the hook by settling for difficult shots in the mid-range, doesn't always play with the type of physicality you might hope, and has some lazy habits off the ball defensively that better teams in the ACC have punished for easy points." - Givony "Banchero is a true mismatch nightmare, comparing favorably to post-injury Blake Griffin with his combination of power, agility and court vision" - Schmitz "It was Banchero's spotty defensive effort that will likely stick with NBA scouts. UNC had a clear plan to bring Banchero into action after action to force a switch and attack him... Banchero had some head-scratching possessions that didn't help ease concerns about his conditioning and his willingness to play with consistent energy on defense. He looked tired and heavy-footed jogging back in transition, failing to stop the ball when in position a couple of times, and looking lethargic as Manek looped around for a lightly-contested 3. Banchero didn't even attempt to get a hand up on two Davis pull-ups, one coming after a switch toward the end of the first half. His consistency on the defensive glass remains a major work in progress for Banchero as well. With Williams and Theo John in foul trouble and Banchero at the 5 for a quick spurt down the stretch, Bacot drew two quick fouls in the post. Being able to slide up to the 5 at the next level is a big part of Banchero's intrigue, and he didn't offer much in terms of defensive rebounding or rim protection with Duke's season on the line." - Schmitz You also have a number of other prominent NBA writers like KOC saying he has "shades of Julius Randle". Yes Carmelo was an outstanding prospect coming out of college (like others have said - one of the best college seasons by a freshman ever - and something Banchero couldn't even come close to sniffing) and was a perennial all star in the NBA. Carmelo was a game-changing offensive talent in an era where teams didn't place so much importance on efficiency. Great player and enjoyed watching him play, but I don't know of anyone who will bet their life and say Carmelo is a player you can build a championship team around, especially in the modern era.
Putting in the following criteria: RPG >= 7 3PM >= 40 APG >= 3 2PT FG% >=52% Freshman Forward I get two results: Paolo and RJ Barrett. I think people would give Paolo an advantage on ball handling but if Paolo's floor is RJ Barrett I'd say that's worth a top 3 pick.
So u didn’t quote me this after I said he’s not as skilled as Melo offensively? Who is not as skilled as Mello? Banchero is more skilled than Melo coming out of college who mainly had a mid post game. You’re really gonna try and gaslight me again? A top 50 what now? The fact that u even dare mention Lebron when speaking on Paolo speaks volumes.
Yeah you missed a lot. The 1.0 version is not as good as 2.0 so the 1.0 is a lesser version. Don't overthink it.
So you’re saying the initial version (Lebron) is now 2.0? And version 1.0 (Banchero) was the original? I’m the one who missed a lot? You have to be one of the dumbest posters on this forum.
So everyone just sits on their hands when draftniks have the gall to say Chet reminds them of Kevin Durant, but they will jump to attention and defend Carmelo Anthony from Paolo Banchero comps??? Weird. Lebron James is even on record saying how much he likes Paolo and likewise Paolo himself said he views LJ as the GOAT and how much he emulated him as a player, but its off limits? Mondays on Clutch Fans should be a podcast.
this is what he’s said regarding Paolo and Lebron Sounds an awful lot like a young Lebron, the only difference is not being an explosive athlete and not as great a passer. so Paolo sounds like Lebron, just take away the supreme athleticism, and take away the elite passing because “not as great as Lebron” is putting it real lightly, he’s nowhere close when it comes to that category so Lebron if u take away 2 of the biggest things that make Bron what he is…so basically he’s nothing like Lebron Lebron 1.0 makes zero sense Capela is like KG if u take away the post moves, shooting, passing, and all-time defense…he’s Big Ticket 1.0
