So I have a hard time believing this number is true given the terrible, inept logistics of the Russians. However, any number being 'deported' is terrifying.
I thought about that too. Most likely they are just surveying a particular area, doing very rough math of census population prior to the war - counted for dead - accounted for evacuated. So they really are just likely estimating "missing." With the way that they are uncovering mass graves everyday there's probably a higher likihood that those who are missing are dead than taken into camps, and there's probably a large amount of people who haven't been accounted for that did flea the country. With the "kidnapped" we are likely to need to count on intelligence assets infiltrating those areas of Russia to get an estimate on the ground of what the Russians are doing to those Ukrainians they kidnapped, and are likely selling off. It is known though that Russia does have a huge problem with population declines in Siberia, and areas of the Arctic that they need workers for badly. So it would not be shocking at all but still horrifying if Ukrainians are essentially being sold into slave labor in mass.
Now they are bombing the train stations again and stealing their grain. Over a trillion dollars of damage to Ukraine so far.

One of the things the Biden Admin. has done very well is prepare the world for Russia's disinformation campaign. That has made it much harder for Russia to convince people that they are actually de-Nazifying.
