Yes, you read that right. Apparently having a rainbow sticker on your classroom window is promoting the homosexual agenda - this after a Texas teacher was suspended for sharing a photo of her wife with students. This is exactly what DeSantis is trying to do in Florida.

They just had to claim the color scheme didn’t they? Rainbows are the real victims here, they never asked to be represented by any party

It’s no different than putting up a BLM logo or anything else that implies some sort of political statement. I don’t think she can credibly argue that the sticker wasn’t intended as an expression of her support for gay rights. So, should teachers be allowed to put up signs signaling their political alignments? I guess that’s the question here.

If I teacher puts a Trump bumper sticker on her car and then drives that car into the school's parking lot - is that ok? Can a teacher say she voted for Abbott? Is that ok?

This was also the Christian Taliban's goal.

So no crosses or religious iconography in schools either?

Supporting black, gay or anyone else’s rights shouldn’t have anything to do with political alignment.

I think so. But I don’t think she should put up a Trump or Abbott (or any other politician) sign in the classroom or on the window.

LGBT symbol is too triggering for today's Republicans. They have become way too sensitive.

It's a conscious choice to hate LGBT. LGBT has done nothing to deserve this push of hatred within today's Republicans. That conscious choice made it political. Effectively, the party in power can now decide what to hate, making it political, and with that, claim teachers are making a political statement and fire them.

How is that any different than a teacher saying, tell your parents to vote for Abbott at then end of class? Or wearing an Abbott pin?

I suppose if all political speech is unprotected in classrooms across the spectrum, then that's at least consistent.

But if the state can censor teachers, why is it that private companies can not censor their own spaces?

not having a contract renewed is different than being "fired"

Supporting the rights of Americans is a political alignment?

Seems like that would only be true if one party was anti American?

Not necessarily. Sometimes there is a disagreement over which rights should take precedence, or what should actually count as legal rights. Each side may claim their position is more true to “American” ideals.

well you could imagine someone putting up a Moron Labe sticker in the classroom in support of constitutionally guaranteed Second Amendment rights of Americans being considered a "political alignment"

"At the time, Stonecipher, an English and journalism teacher who sponsors the school’s Gender and Sexuality Alliance, had argued that “safe space” stickers are not inherently political, but simply signal that a teacher feels confident to have conversations with LGBTQ students who may be struggling with their identity or their sense of belonging."

This! Being homosexual, or saying you are is not a political alignment. As if Republicans all have straight kids. LOL
Makes you wonder if the majority of the 25% of parents who disown their kids for coming out are all Republicans.

Irving ISD must be run by bigots. I feel sorry for high school kids being taught in that anti-gay environment.

To be fair, I'm pretty sure a teacher would get in serious trouble for this.

Precedence? Do certain groups rights take a back seat the same rights as other groups?

What is the argument here exactly?
