Here's what would really happen. The property taxes Disney currently pays to the special district would then go to the surrounding counties which would be responsible for managing Disney's territory.

The special district is $1 billion in debt, that debt would also get transferred to the counties, and would make taxpayers have to pay that in the form of higher property taxes. So F the stock price - do you think it's fair to punish taxpayers because the governor wants revenge for Disney disagreeing with him??

or disney has to pay more taxes on their properties

    https://www.nytimes.com/2022/04/21/business/disney-florida-special-tax-status.html

The Reedy Creek Improvement District, enacted in 1967 to entice Disney to build a theme park 20 miles south of Orlando, saves the company millions of dollars annually in fees and taxes, experts estimate.

Anyone else find it ironic that one of the biggest ‘stars’ of the GOP, the party that’s owned by corporate America, is in a pissing match with one of the biggest corporations in America?

I really don't care about Disney having to pay more - but it's not an "or" but an and.

This isn't about whether corporations should have special districts or any benefits (if you eliminate it for Disney eliminate it for everyone) but punishing a company for free speech is against what you and @Os Trigonum have been evangelizing for a while now. Seems strange to me that it's ok to punish free speech if the punished is pro-liberal but if it's a conservative than it's censorship.

I'm just trying to understand why the double standard?

Such a petty move, but par the course for the cancel culture folks.

You authoritarians even want the corporation's speech to fall in line. Very interesting.

I heard this. I was curious about it.
Even if later the next governor gives Disney back their privileges. . . .
Disney won't take back their debt . .. right?

Us individualists are sick and tired of Disney messing up these great franchises like Star Wars
this is what they get for killing off Han and making Luke a sucker

Their job is to entertain us, else I'm taking my money to Universal Studios
    they got better rides aways!

I'm interested to see what the cost benefit analysis is for Disney in regards to revenue potential lost vs the revenue/value they attribute to both talent that works for them + all the LGBTQ events, cruises, etc.

My guess is... like all things in corporate America... this outcome was factored in with their CRO/PR folks before they took a stance on anything with this bill.

Just another example of the economic power of Americans and international tourists that are liberal/pro Democracy. All of the data shows that we are the safer bet in almost every one of these examples.

Yeah I don't know - but if I am Disney, I am sure going to try to get out of owing a billion dollars.

I really don't give 2 ***** about Disneys - I thought the Star Wars movies sucked, and I don't watch much Disney crap except for Marvel or Nat Geo which are really separate entities anyway. This isn't about Disney but rather about applying the ideas of free speech, censorship, and cancel culture equally to both sides. I'm trying to see how you and @Os Trigonum resolve that double standard that I feel is there.

This is actual attacking of free speech. It is government trying to silence private enterprise.

Again I never liked the idea of Disney essentially self governing including with their own police force. How DeSantis is doing though seems capricious and spiteful especially when as state legislator he supported Disney's special treatment.

I'm going to chalk this up to the right thing for the wrong reasons.

Also again for all of those who don't like Disney for whatever reason you are free to boycott them. This is an area where we don't need government to step in but already have the ability to vote with our dollars.

One reason why I don't have Disney Plus is those god awful Star Wars movies doesn't make me inclined to hand them more of my money.
