0 chance he's the best player on this team. Empty stats doesn't mean the best.

That's a different situation. The nets are rebuilding without durant so they have nothing to gain since they don't have their picks.

So why did he shoot 30% in the g league? He's going to shoot better against better defenses in the nba?

College defenses and competition quality vary... the line is also closer last i checked.

I'm not saying he can't be good, just saying g league stats mean little.

    Exactly.

You remember what Green shot 3P% in G League last season? 36% with Ignite but was shooting 29% with Rockets before ASB.

And Green started almost every game with Ignite AND Rockets.

Jalen Johnson has been consistently yanked up and down from G League to Hawks end of bench.

Playing time & role consistency is critical.

    So is system and fit.

Garrispn Mathews also shot 30% from 3P with Vipers before being called up to Rockets.

Mathews ended up averaging 36% from 3P with Rockets this season.

The outlier 3P% for Jalen Johnson looks more and more like G League amirite?

His value should be at its lowest and ripe for a trade right now.

I'm not saying he won't be a player. I'm saying i wouldn't give up a ton for him and wouldn't hand him a starting job.

There are a lot of guys who dominate the g league who aren't able to be rotation players in the nba. He could be an exception; i just don't think the odds are very good.

If you're talking a future lottery protected #1 and you let him compete for a job I'm fine with it...

I'm not sure I understand. We didn't have our picks either. Oklahoma City had most of them. We traded Harden in large part to gain picks. Even with the Jalen Green pick last year it was 50/50 if it was going to OKC. We just got lucky.

I read some scouting on Jalen dated going into the draft... the negatives:

    High turnovers
    Bad free throw shooting
Inconsistent outside shooter who gets left open at times
    Questionable motor
Needs to add bulk to play nba 4
Likely not nba ready in year 1

I think those showed up some in his g league game... not that he isn't likely to improve...

If Durant and his massive salary will get you late picks as the rockets expected and may have lucked out on then sure...

Harden could opt out after the following season. Durant is locked in for a few more years...

Laying in bed typing on my phone is obviously problematic for me.

Houston out: Wood, Tate, Nwaba & pick #17
Houston in: Kemba Walker, Mason Plumlee, Jalen McDaniels, pick #11, & 2023 frp (via Dallas)

Charlotte out: Plumlee, McDaniels and pick #15
    Charlotte in: Wood

New York out: Walker, pick #11 & 2023 frp (via Dallas)
New York in: Tate, Nwaba, pick #15, & pick #17

To be fair, NYK need to move off of Kemba's contract and the Dallas pick next year is likely to be worse than either of the picks we are sending to NY but I think this is a good deal for the Rockets as they do in fact move up this year and get more ammo to move up next year. They will likely be picking in the late lottery in 2023 so having both the Milwaukee pick and Dallas pick could be pretty useful to get into a top 8 sort of territory.

Pretty good trade if Charlotte wants Wood, although not sure they would send Plumlee because they need his defense.

Hell no to Buddy Heild and the rockets don't need more scoring. They will be a top 10 offense next year. We need defense and forwards not Heild.

    Agreed.

If not for these issues and other off court stuff, Johnson would have been a top 5 pick.

Even in a talent heavy draft like 2022.

Johnson athleticism, length, size, defense, shooting and guard skills are comparable if not better than Banchero, Kuminga, Suggs and even Barnes.

It's the motor and off court stuff that killed him.

He's definitely worth #17 in this draft. I'd prefer Tari Eason because he is similar sized, not as skilled but plays like a demon on both sides of the ball.

But barring Eason, Dyson or Sochan - give me Jalen Johnson.

I'm sensing that Jalen Johnson and Hawks are not a great fit and he is there for the taking.

He is a better playmaker, better defender, better rebounder, better athlete than Banchero.

What if Kings were willing to give us the #7 pick for taking on DeAron Fox's contract? What would we have to trade? Would almost rather have the pick, don't have a lot of faith in us trying to acquire free agents with cap space.
