Player A is obviously the better player. But player B is 3 years younger and that's why he is more highly rated.
Very good reasonable take. Nice to hear someone being objective and not so emotionally attached to one player or another or hating. I still like Jabari, Chet, Ivey, Banchero maybe to be supplanted by Sharpe if his workouts impress Stone enough. If we get Jabari, I think we should explore all kinds of trades to move up for Sharpe and not worry so much about next year’s draft. With the lottery in place next year’s pick will most likely not be in the top 5, because of the improvement of Sengun and Green. I prefer bird in hand rather than a shot in the dark for yet another rookie to develop a year down the line. I would put Gordan, Wood, Tate, the 23frp and 17 this year in play to move up or even for a disgruntled vet.
I can see that being an attractive offer for the blazers pick. I like Sharpe a lot (in theory) too. I think my logic changes if we're at pick 5 and the top 4 guys are gone. the next tier seems to be Sharpe, griffin, Murray, with sometimes duren in that group. I really dislike this spot. not only would we miss out on the only difference makers, but this tier has a lot of risk. Sharpe is very unproven, griffin has an injury history, Murray is old enough to be an upperclassmen (typically upperclassmen taken in the lotto bust). I'm not sure I would value duren that highly, to be taken at #5. especially, since we already placed a bet at center in sengun, and duren isn't a clear upgrade. plus as I said next year's draft has quite a few centers in the top 10. although I want to take the highest floor if we land in the top 4, I'd rather take a chance on sharpe's upside if we land at #5. I just think if you're drafting that high you need a chance at an all star.
Spot on. Right now only Green matters when it comes to the rebuild. This next prospect will be more important than Sengun who is in the next tier. I dont want to end up like the Raptors. A middling 48-52 win team with no real superstar level talent stuck in an endless loop of 1st round exits. If you do take talent over fit (which you always do) I think Jabari falls behind the other 4 prospects if I'm keeping it 100. He's just not as dynamic of a scorer as the other 4. He's the best shooter but if you know he can't put the ball on the floor then that makes it easier to defend him. Paolo, Ivey and Sharpe can all attack you in a myriad of ways. Even Chet has this ability. Not saying Jabari won't be awesome but you need to take someone with a superstar ceiling. And I don't think Jabari is that (like Jalen or Cade were).
I don't have the stats to say who has done that but I am sure somebody has scored that many points in that amount of time, we are talking about college ball here. You said he had historical numbers, those are great numbers but not historical. A lot of big men has scored that much and rebounded that much.
I don’t really think we’re too much apart. I think we are better served with Ivey or Sharpe than Banchero. If we get one of Ivey or Sharpe, we still have to get a PF this year or commit totally to another year of tanking. Just like last year and this year that is a real gamble. I think with this year’s lotto pick if it is Jabari, Chet, or Ivey we have the basis for our contender and do not want to waste another year playing to lose for a shot at guys I have very little exposure to. If we can get a vet like Turner without giving up 23 frp, I would do that in a second. I don’t know that any of us can be sure which of Sharpe or a top 10 next year will be the next great thing. That is up to Stone, who I trust totally in assessing young players. I am afraid that the Rockets hang onto Wood and Gordon and in that case we will continue to delay the development of whoever we pick and Jaygup and tank another year.
I've said before I won't argue (much) with someone ranking the top 4 in a different order than me. they're all very close. for me, the concerns of Jabari's self creation are both true and a bit overblown. he might not be a play initiator, but he's an elite shooter, teams will have to closeout. he just needs a basic dribble package to attack closeouts, counter a help defender, make a decent passing read. he's a full year younger than chet, and younger than the other 2 bigs. he's the same age as Sharpe. as most importantly for me, he was not considered a top 5 prospect out of high school, but improved so much this year that he's now on chet and banchero's level. there are reports of his great work ethic. one of the things I like to look for is if we can see improvement from year to year. with jabari and ivey you can clearly see how much better they got this year compared to last. not a slight against chet and Banchero but its less noticeable. Chet's playmaking ability is a bit hyped. he's got emerging dribbling, passing, and shooting skills. nothing consistent. he was a very streaky shooter. shot 30%, then 50%, then 30% during 10 game stretches this year. he's got slow burst when attacking closeouts. he's a bit turnover prone with the dribble and passing. and I'm not sure, because of how tall he is that he can become a primary or secondary creator. similar to jabari, chet has a couple of elite skills and a few more emerging ones. I think jabari could be a secondary scorer and a plus defender. I think chet can probably be a 3rd scoring option and an elite defender. Jabari and ivey are the only guys who have the potential to be primary initiators and scoring options, but there are concerns with defense. Sharpe hasn't actually proven anything except he can beat up on high school kids. he'll need to prove himself in workouts which we won't get the chance to attend so we really can't weight in definitively.
I'm also afraid of delaying the development of the young guys by keeping wood and gordon around. ideally I'd like our rotation to be: sengun-garuba ???-KJ ???-??? jalen-JC KPJ-Nix jabari, banchero, or chet can slide in at the 4. ivey would push KPJ to defend the 3 but initiate the offense. sharpe would start at the 3. from there I'd like to package wood, gordon, tate, #17 and the MIL pick to see if we can move up or land a starter at one of the remaining positions of need.
This was an interesting note that made me think about the Silas offense. Perhaps that's why Wood looks so bad at times because he is a player you don't want to stop and think.
Cm'on. Let's stop with Bobby rhetoric and try NOT to repeat the shitshow civil war that happened last year. Unless you guys are masochists of course.
Trade up to take this kid if necessary. A bigger more explosive Jae'Sean Tate. And this kid put up these numbers as the 6th man. Crazy.
Burn some assets and get Eason and Sochan. Cash some of those chips in. Just like we begged them to do whatever it took to get another high pick last year and it turns out we were right. KPJ JG Chet/Jabari/Jaden/Paolo Jaygup Sengun Eason Sochan Garuba Looks like a good young core to me.
That fact that D-rock is calling out somebody else for being an only fan is hilarious. Nobody goes all in on a guy like D-rock. @D-rock
I'm guessing the percentage of people who would grant your first statement is very low, and that's pretty much the impetus behind posting the comparison. Just to get people reconsidering. As for the age thing, I personally don't put much weight into it, especially for a guy who's already averaging near 25ppg on excellent efficiency. Steph, Klay and Draymond were all 21 or 22 on draft night -- imagine if the Warriors were hung up on age and passed on them for younger prospects. So yeah, unless it's an extreme case where a guy is 25+ and you're at risk of losing some of his prime, it's not particularly relevant to me. Not suggesting this is the consensus opinion on age; just mine.
Oh I would take Keegan with the 5th pick happily, I wouldn't be scared about his age. But just saying, when put in a direct comparison with another player, age is a factor, especially if it's 3 years. Jabari was no slouch, he was highly productive, even if not to Keegan's level.
